It's the fault of the guy who signs his paycheck and continues to give him a job. The only solution is for fans to just stay away and let ownership know they will no longer support the mediocrity that Steeler football has become.

I still watch the games but i will never spend tickets to go to games until they get rid of this clown of a head coach. I used to go to a few home games a year as well as a road game

What did Robber Barrons like Carnegie and Rockefeller do after they had amassed great fortunes and extraordinary success in their chosen fields? They started Endowments and Foundations, and this became as much the "business" as being titans of industry. Unless you figuratively wallow in the muck of new money avarice like a Kraft or Jerrah, at some some point you have achieved enough wealth or winning in this case.

When Rooney got the 5th Ring, he shifted to a legacy and endowment focus. Oh, it had been there in some form all along in social consciousness, but hiring a young, unproven Mike Tomlin came out of the zeitgeist of the Rooney Rule that culminated in Rooney publicly endorsing Barack Obama and accepting the political favor of an Ambassadorship to Ireland. At that point, it was about way more than football. So, it was hardly surprising that Rooney allowed the NFL to gut defensive football -- his brand identity -- and come down with the hammer on his HOF OLB and QB. Rooney's "brand identity" was no longer winning Lombardi's: It became legacy and the endowment of the social capital invested in Mike Tomlin. That's why the Rooneys will never fire Tomlin and he'll at minimum be allowed to let his contract run out and declare victory about all the great things he did in having 4 playoff winning seasons in 15 years.

Remember, the Rooneys were "blown away" by Tomlin the HC candidate. Honest question, has Tomlin "blown away" any of you with anything you've seen from him in 12+ years?

Rooney saw what he wanted to see, and the vehicle by which he would endow his legacy capital.

Art Rooney sr was a great guy, but as far as putting a winning product on the field, he was a horrible football owner...
Dan Rooney taking over control of the football operations was the big turnaround...
Him leaving control to Art jr was the big turnaround the other way...

Face it, Dan was the Steeler Way... RIP...

Yep, Art II is a business man first and foremost and Steeler football is second priority. Don’t ever mistake it for the reverse because you’re only fooling yourself.
What Sojourner Steel says is so spot on it’s not even funny.

I saw all this stuff 5 years ago. Nothing has changed.

I am so blah on this franchise as long as it's Art, Tomlin and Roethlisberger. Those three in charge are just the definition of insanity for a fan.

Thank god for soccer and fantasy football. I get 10 times more enjoyment in that than putting any faith in this franchise for about the last decade. Fool us once (and twice, and maybe three times), okay. Fool us for a decade? Shame on you guys.

That would be the Pirates. The Steelers aren't at that point yet.

You are SO spot on here. The Steelers that we knew and loved, Died with Dan Rooney. RIP.

What kinda moronic coach kicks a 3 pointer from the 1 yard line? Shows it's the team he doesn't have confidence in, it's his own coaching he doesn't have confidence in.

Nor should he...many o f us don't have confidence in him and his coaching staff. The Standard is the standard.

Interestingly enough Troy Polamalu has said basically the same thing. Probably because his leaving the team was as a result of a phone call by CMT informing Troy his services were no longer needed. Classy.

I hope Rooney is very proud of his coach today...Week 1 is done on the 100th season and the Steelers are the worst team in the league.
And in Tomlin fashion, he did it in front of the nation on Prime Time...which he admitted his team was not "ready"
They've only had all off-season to prepare for one game...can't wait to see how he does week to week. Hope he has a better Wednesday speech then his halftime speech
Watching the Raven, Saints, Houston, Oakland play really showed is prepared and play to WIN!
The Steelers not able to covert 1 yard and going for a FG at the 1 is the play of losers....Tomlin took the FG so he didn't make Boswell mad and that he could walk out of NE with his head held high, "we didn't get shut-out!"

Yes, he blows me away all the time. Unfortunately, it is due to stupidity, lack of preparation, lack of adjustments, etc..

when you have gut feelings and can read the environment like Al Roker, you don't need to prepare.

Same here. Was going to get tix to Steelers @ Chargers but I'm not wasting anymore money on this **** & racket of a league. I'll stream a game online, but no more Sunday Ticket, merchandise etc. We'll see how long it lasts, but they're not getting any more money from me for the foreseeable future.

I'm not happy either. But had we gone for it on 4th and short and NOT MADE it...we'd still be listening to how dumb the decision was.

Face it, we were outplayed and out-coached on Sunday night.

15 more games to go...

That argument would work if the score were different and we weren't playing in NE. Taking the points was basically saying we're trying to keep from being shut out. Do you want to win the game or do you want to keep from being shut out? Because if you want to win kicking FGs won't get it done.

The fanboys in the FB groups who can't abide any criticism of the team and especially Mikey Cool Shades are losing their **** over the number of people starting posts about "Will (or should) Tomlin be fired if they lose next week?" The meltdown is fun to watch. How bad is it when Burgundy is the voice of reason when it comes to Mikey Cool Shades?

The number of Steeler fans who know nothing about football and how the Rooneys do business is astounding. I don't tell them about this place. It would be like Californians moving to Colorado and ******* that place up too.

The problem with the stupidity of kicking the FG is it still left us 3 scores down and that is not taking into account we knew the Pats would score more points. Maybe the single dumbest decision of his career and it is fraught with a plethora of bad decisions.

Bless you Burgundy for your silence, keep it that way please.

Salute the nation

It's not a stupid decision at all. It means that Shades knew there was no way they were going to win and and simply wanted to avoid a shutout.
Hell, I knew they were going to lose at the opening kickoff. It was just a matter of seeing how bad the beatdown would be.

Tomlin was like Michael Spinks coming into the ring vs Iron Mike Tyson. Shades should have worn knee pads like Spinks because he knew he was going down before the opening bell.

In the Belicheat/Br*dy era we have only beat the Cheats once at their place and that was in 2008 when Br*dy got a broken leg in the first game and was on IR for the season.
We got to three SB's in six years but due to one quirk or another we never had to face the Pats****** in the playoffs.
