The Pittsburgh Steelers made a franchise-changing move in the 2017 NFL Draft when they selected TJ Watt in the first round, with the 30th overall pick. Little did they anticipate that they were securing a franchise-altering player. Watt quickly made his mark, earning six Pro Bowl selections and garnering All-Pro honors four times. His exceptional performance culminated in him clinching the AP Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2021.

The nfl has it's favorites, and the Steelers are not one of them. It just is what it is.
It has to do with a couple of things...the fact that our fanbase is rabid and established everywhere, so we dont need narratives to keep ratings and attendance up... also a lot of the league bigwigs grew up during the steelers dynasty and they didnt like their teams losing out to us all the time...

The fact Strahan got the sack for Favre in the 1st place should have knocked him back a sack. That was so ridiculous and horrid of a play. It's funny how many deceptive, dishonest things Favre has been busted for since then. He's a known crook.

Also although our fanbase is broad, our media market is relatively small and can't compete with Dallas and New England in ratings and ad revenue.

He already owns the record. Or do we forget TJ's sack of L. Jackson in the 1st quarter where Jackson fields the bad snap, looks up to pass, does not even try to run, Watt sacks him ... and for some ******* reason it's ruled a non-sack?!?!?!?

Well at least one of Watt's sack wasn't called a sack because I believe the Ravens back ip Huntley tucked the ball and tried to run. We'll I assume Romo or Aikman or whoever that was certainly was trying to run. So......make it so. Long live the Sack King.

Because sacks are determined by the home team stat guy and not an NFL neutral party (in as much as the NFL can be neutral). No ravens stat guy was going to give Watt the record. Had it been any stadium outside the division, it would have been his. Complete crap

Toss in the BS DPOY garbage this year...TJ should be one of the most decorated guys in NFL history. Even his brother commented on the DPOY crap.

The home team should keep the stats. Anyone should be able to appeal a stat. An extra sack or two translates to money.

Any team can appeal a sack/nonsack call by the home team to Elias Sports Bureau. They are contracted to the NFL to be "neutral arbiters" of disputed game stats. In the case of the Ravens calling TJ's sack a TFL instead of a sack, the Steelers did submit the tape for review by Elias. Elias, wrongly, agreed with the Ravens stats guys.
Again, in my opinion, both the Ravens stats guys and Elias were wrong.

Oh and another thing. For some reason, I cannot fathom why (perhaps I was hungover or wife had control of the remote), we had Good Morning America being broadcast not long after TJ "tied" the record. Strahan was a member of the GMA panel and somebody brings up the fact TJ tied his record. The person asking about the fact, some woman whose name I don't recall, then "points out" that Watt needed 17 games to tie the record while Strahan "did it in 16 games." Strahan boastfully leans back and says, "Yeah, I did it in 16."

Strahan played all 16 games that year, while TJ missed two full games due to injury so in fact TJ set the record in 15 games while Strahan needed 16.

Suck it, dickwads.

That is the exact play that I thought was being called into question. Saw the article, didn't click. Go figure

Add in the fact that we were the ONLY ones who voted down the CBA. Plus the JAMES HARRISON effect.

News Flash

In light of this new video evidence the NFL has updated the record books and given the Single Season Sack Record to the sole possession of Myles Garrett........obviously

They had to destroy the video tape due to the severity of the optical illusion it would damage. An NFL paid employee will lite with a neutral, non-biased lighter.

Meh... what do you expect them to do now??? Actually reverse the call and make it right???

Silly rabbit - tricks are for kids!!!

Yes, I do. MLB reviewed Hack Wilson's 1930 season and found that he in fact did not have 190 RBI's that year and instead had 191. His statistics were changed to reflect the accurate number. Rube Waddell was credited with the greatest number of strikeouts in a single season with 343 in 1904 but a review of box scores showed he actually fanned 349 batters, so the record was corrected.

The changes are not made where the outcome would be different only due to a rule change. Most don't know that Babe Ruth in fact hit 715 HR's, not 714, but one walk-off was credited as only a triple since a runner was on first and scored the winning run before the Babe crossed the plate and the rule at the time was a batter who logged a game-winning hit is credited with just the number of bases needed to produce the winning run. (Something similar still exists, since a batter who is hitting in the bottom of the inning with the bases loaded in a tie game and who rips one into the gap is credited with just a single even though the hit would clearly be a double in any other circumstance.) The Babe's lifetime total has not been changed since the rules are the rules.
