Is loyality to certian players a Tomlin flaw?

The head coach picks who makes the team, who is cut, who starts, and who plays in situational football.

Tomlin has chosen to stick by Chris Boswell. I saw no data about the try outs, but my hunch is the other guys were just as good in the try out.

Kicking has a lot to do with mental toughness and technique, and right now Boswell is lacking in both areas...and costing the Steelers games.

In the end its Tomlin call. Right now this call is highly questionable. I've never seen a head coach do this many things to limit his teams chances for success.
 
Yes, I think it is a big flaw of Tomlin. The Boswell thing is more of a financial one in not eating his contract at this time
Tomlin has also been known as a player friendly coach, that approach over the last 8+ years has proven it does not work for us.
 
Landry jones is STILL not on an nfl roster. Think about that, the guy we trusted behind Ben couldn't get a job on another team, even after TWO Redskins qbs go down. How about Vince Williams, does he start for ANY other nfl team? It's frustrating, I can't imagine at least ONE player warming the bench isn't better than Williams.

I don't think it's Tomlin, it's the Steelers way to hold onto draft pick busts for 4 or 5 years past the time other teams would cut their losses.

They have a long history of holding onto to these bums and just because they are wearing a Steelers uniform the fans line up in long lines to alibi and apologize for them.

Just look at our D line today, probably only 1 would even make it as a starter on other teams.

Loyalty to a fault, so in love with "their guy" they are blind to reality

you think he makes that decision all by himself? Doesn't Colbert have to put together the contract? you think Colbert and Rooney couldn't override that decision. I'm almost positive that Tomlin has a great deal of leeway and that Colbert gives his recommendation a great deal of weight, such that, it is almost 100% that Tomlin is deciding. However, if one of those two kickers had actually been better, I'd expect there to be some discussion. You know, a "group decision"....

What does "just as good" mean? If they are the same, why would you sign someone else and still have to pay Boz? if they are only marginally better, why risk it? You only sign one if you can tell or expect they will be more than marginally better. To do anything else is foolish.
 
The Boz thing was a front office miscalculation from the start. Never pay a kicker, too many guys just about as good sitting in street clothes every year. It just is a cap blunder to ever pay a kicker high dollar. Once they become a head case you need to be able to cut Em loose and bring in the next guy.

He's been loyal to other players who were marginal at best in the past as well.

In the end its his call on who to keep and cut. Just as good as in the try outs, but I bet the kickers not chosen are in a better state of mind for game days. Boswell's confidence is low. Stupid coaching and a bad kicker is tough to overcome.
