Is Gurley Worth the Money?

Yea because Belichick wouldn't have figured out a way to stop him.........LOL

It doesn't matter how smart you are, you can only cover so many weapons. They mostly took away his first 2 reads, Cooks and Woods. If you add in a great receiving back like Gurley, they can't cover that too.

They did hit a few passes to CJ Anderson. I don't know what the deal is with Gurley, if he's hurt or in the doghouse, but if he was healthy. he should have been able to make a bunch of plays, and if the Pats then rolled more coverage to Gurley, then it would have opened up Cooks or Woods.

It was interesting that Gurley had the fasted player on the field for the Rams per NextGen Stats, but you have to figure his knee limited his lateral ability.

The Rams don't make the playoffs let alone win the Superbowl without Gurley. If anything the Superbowl proves how a healthy top 3 rb makes all the difference in the world. Rivers would have a ring if Tomlinson didn't pull a groin in the playoffs.
The Steelers proved it this year without bell, no playoffs.
With bell and brown gone. Ben's window is shut. It's over, just wait and see.

You know, while it is a long shot, both of those guys could be in a Steeler uniform next fall.

It was mostly shut with Tomlin as the coach. Ben is the only one giving them a chance. Ben is more valuable to the team than Bell and AB combined.

Guess it depends on the individual team and how they assign the value of a player?
Paying a lot of dough to a marquee running back to sit on the bench during a championship game seems odd but what do I know! Especially one who continues to maintain he was healthy and capable.

First there is no guarantee on anything, including River's SB win. Secondly, how many years did we have both LeMEon and AB on this team and PLEASE remind me how many SB wins in that time?? Those two players will never win a SB and are the MOST meMEme players you will find. BELL's episode was about money and pride where as Brown's episode is just about meMEme & stupidity. The STEELERS don't sniff a SB unless BEN ROETHLISBERGER is providing the sniff.

Bell is good as gone.

Ab would be my guess of possibly staying. But even that is a big if. As if what is offered isn't attractive.

There's still a scenario, and tag guru's chime in, where the Steelers could match another teams offer, then he would be under contract again.

And maybe he isn't worth as much as he thinks he is. Of course the team as a whole would be better off without his drama, so I doubt it happens.

Rumor is they might tag him with the transition and then immediately trade him. So they might get some compensation. Otherwise they are getting nothing.

Slash is right....especially if Baltimore gives Bell an offer sheet and accepts. The trade team will be an NFC. For both Bell and AB.

Rams relied more on a RB off the street in Super Bowl. Bell was going to use the Gurley contract as a marker. But Gurley's late season
performance might have lowered RB market value. Bell might be lucky to get what Steelers offered.

Draft reports all say when he's healthy he's a top guy. Gurley had knee issues in college which included an ACL surgery, and an ankle injury that caused him to miss three games. Given his physical style of running and lower body injury issues, he's not going to last long in the NFL.

NFL GM need to wise up.

1 ) Do not give Diva's with off the field issues a long term contract unless you're sure the head coach can keep in line.

2 ) If you draft a QB, and he's not a top 12 QB after 4 years, never give him 20+ million a year for his next contract, draft a new QB early instead.

3 ) The Running back position has a short shelf life and can be replaced easily, often with a mid-round draft pick. Giving an injured or off the field back a huge second contract is CRAZY.

What if you take away the guy getting the ball to the weapons? Jared Goff was in over his head in the SB, the Rams never had a chance, imo. Cooks, Woods, Anderson and Gurley couldn't get into the game because Goff was overwhelmed or so it seemed. He was either overwhelmed or the Pats did things on defense for which he wasn't prepared, either way, a young QB was the problem, not the weapons.

Bells value is more for his receiving. Ya he’s a good runner not a great runner but a good runner but they used bell successful a number of ways, and more than just a back catching the ball out of the backfield. They could put him out wide or in the slot or in hback. They actually wrote a new play book the other teams are copying without really realizing it I don’t think. He’s like a second receiver/running back. Way more versatile than just a second receiver and running back... when we had Bryant with his outside speed really put defenses in a bind put bell outside and slanting him... pick ur poison. I think the Steelers made a mistake not paying bell second receiver money, we booted Bryant, had had a rookie slotted 2nd receiver, play bell for a couple years then boot him when he tapered off if he did. They invented the position.. pay the man. I like Connor great guy but he’s just a back right now having him and bell would have been special. Could have mixed in some old steeler split backfields but put bell in and out of the slot or outside... possibility’s endless really. Too bad front office has really no vision for this team and with Ben getting old we are running out of time.

Uh....Marshall Faulk was doing what Bell did while Bell was in grade school. He didn’t allow any new playbook to be written.

And for the record, Conner did what LeVeon did, but with better TD numbers and at a fraction of the cost.

As it has been pointed out many times on the board, including myself, the whole second tag scenario was because Bell communicated...publicly.....after 2017 that he and the team were real close to a extension. Probably around 15/yr. To protect their investment, they Exclusive tagged him again. Business decision first and foremost. However, then a month later Bell started listening to others and probably the talking heads. Got even more full of himself and started the tangents of 17 mil, I deserve highest RB money, or pay me #1 RB and #2 WR. He was all over the place. In fact it’s probably easy to assume his agent didn’t know himself what Bell wanted, considering he advise his player to sign the highest paid RB offer the Steelers gave him. No he was worried about Guaranteed $, which every agent knows how the Steelers FO work. They structure their contracts so as to allow flexibility for the cap. So if you are in their plans, you are going to see the majority if not all of your second contract. Usually with a restructuring which is basically giving the player a bonus of future money on the contract.

Then Gurley’s contract came in.....different player/team....younger, on rookie deal. Completely different circumstances. Yet Bell thinks he’s on par with him. Ego has taken over from common sense. You can’t do business with ego. If there is no tag trade, there won’t be a comp pick in 2020. With the cap space and needs now, any FA(s) brought in will wipe away any comp through the formula used.
