Interviews for Steelers new head coach thread

I like Klay too but I wonder if last nights showing was a little ding. I despise blowouts so it is worth looking into.

I do know the 49ers were riddled with injuries so I wonder how much of that should be factored in as they still beat the Eagles…

I get it, but a team cannot base who they want to be their coach (hopefully for the next decade) on one game.

We'll know how serious they are or not about Klay over the next few days.

Either way, I doubt that beat down affects the Steelers decision one way or the other regarding him.

Shannahan has to own that more than any other 49ers coach.

I agree and I am sure they would look at everything more than my one game concern which is probably more of a knee jerk reaction.

Definitely doesn’t lessen my stance for wanting his brother to be interviewed too.

Very curious who the three to four other options will be. Or was Gerry just talking out of his arse once again..

I just think if they were that interested in Klint they would have taken the opportunity to interview him last week.

Klint and Klay are actually similar candidates in a lot of ways beyond just the bloodline.

Klint is obviously more experienced and accomplished as a coordinator, but they might see something in Klay's personality and approach that they prefer over Klint, for all we know.

They need to see something in Klint’s offense 😃 but I hear ya. They still lack offensive candidates. Wouldn’t hurt to bring him in.

The problem is if the Seahawks make it to the Superbowl, it could be three weeks before they could interview Klint just for the first time.

The Steelers were more than aware of that when they chose to spend their time this past week with his brother instead.

Klint just might not be on their radar, though I agree he probably should be.

The pool of desirable candidates will shrink quickly. Rooney really needs to move off the dime.

They definitely need to narrow it down soon, and I suspect they will.

I don't see them waiting on Klint considering they already bypassed an opportunity to interview him.

If the Rams lose tonight, I can see a scenario where Shula, Scheelhaase and Klay are all in Pittsburgh this week and things get interesting really fast.

LOL. Bermuda is absolutely shameless. And HE calls others racist. What a jack cheese.
Just because most were tired of the Tomlin schtick here in Pittsburgh certainly doesn't mean anyone should be considered racist.
I remember when Cowher would lose playoff games and fans were calling for his job.
Bill was also a home town guy as well and he wasn't above criticism.
I simply do not buy into inserting racism into the Steeler’s coaching situation. Thats just ridiculous!
The man was here for nineteen seasons and made his own decision to step down.
Brian Flores has not demonstrated that he can be a good HC. A DC, absolutely , one of the best.
DeMeco Ryans a black HC, if he was available I’d hire him in a second as our HC.
It’s not about ones skin color but about the competency of the man.

Imagine 1 going to Baltimore and one coming here. The storyline that would create

With the Giants and Falcons out of the way, there are 7 teams left and there's some overlap. I used CBS Sports https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...sts-tracker-steelers-mike-tomlin-replacement/

Steelers candidates:
Nate Scheelhaase (Baltimore, Cleveland, Las Vegas)
Chris Shula (Arizona, Baltimore, Miami, Tennessee)
Anthony Weaver (Arizona, Baltimore)
Brian Flores (Baltimore)
Jesse Minter (Arizona, Baltimore, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Miami, Tennessee)
Ejiro Evero (Las Vegas)
Jeff Hafley (Arizona, Las Vegas, Miami, Tennessee)
Klay Kubiak
Mike McCarthy (Tennessee)

The biggest competition will be for Scheelhaase, Shula, Minter, and Hafley.

It seems Hafley is the frontrunner for the Miami job. Tennessee has second interview requests for Nagy and Hafley, but still plan to interview McCarthy, Gannon, and Saleh this weekend.

The Browns have second-round interviews with Udinski, Schwartz, and Monken.

He has not shown to be a bad HC either, unless you think having 9-10 win seasons while ownership is overtly wanting you to tank and be the scapegoat is some obvious sign the man cannot do it.

As I said, he messed up exposing the dirty laundry between him and Stephen Ross and handling it the way he did. Accusing other owners of holding that against him and suing them as well is not the best way for an NFL coach to advance his career

He might have too much baggage and beef with the owners to be a head coach again, but I can see him being a great in the right situation.

Yes show some urgency instead of acting like they are the smartest in the room.
Remember how long the GM “search” took? And letting it keep on going till the draft was over? I found that ridiculous. I’m sure it’s just a rumor….but MT better not have any say in who gets hired.

Tomlin didn't have a PC and is in Georgia right now. Rooney told the staff they're free to go. Think about that. They aren't even concerned if they lose a single member of Tomlin's staff compared to the holdovers they had from Cowher's. Tomlin has zero input in this hire.

As I said, very good DC but nothing special as a HC.
Not bad HC but we need much better!

I totally agree. My first choice months ago was Marcus Freeman. But some were Tomlin first, Steelers second and now go right down the list and want Flores. Lauaghable as we aren't going to go cold on Tomlin for........Flories. lmao. Tough times for the DEI crowd.

for someone who said they agree then you go talking about DEI and bringing race issues into it.

This seems like a very likely scenario.
The Rams will lose tonight to the Bears in Chicago.
It’ll be interesting to see the wheels turning after that game tonight

It could happen Charlie.
If the Steelers do not get who they want this season for whatever reason, I can see them signing McCarthy as a stop gap coach, until the new guy that they absolutely are certain on, comes into the fold.
Could be a possible one or two year bridge.
The Steelers have a lot of work to do on and off the field. It’s not gonna happen as quickly as we like, as far as getting back to a serious contender, and without the right head coach for the long-term, it would be a disservice to whoever they selected if that person was a reach and not ready to rebuild a once proud franchise

I will show AI’s work;

Brian Flores: Head Coaching Record (Miami Dolphins)

The argument for Flores often centers on the fact that he achieved back-to-back winning seasons in Miami for the first time in nearly 20 years. However, as you’ll see, he never actually made the playoffs.

Brian Flores: Defensive Coordinator / Playcaller Rankings

This is where the "Intellect" argument gets interesting. Flores has a reputation for taking "broken" defenses and fixing them overnight, usually by blitzing more than anyone else in the league.

2018Patriots (Playcaller)21st7thWon Super Bowl LIII; held Rams to 3 points.

2024Vikings (DC)5th5thLed the NFL in blitz rate (38.9%) and interceptions.

Chuck Noll's first three years Steelers were 12-30.

Race has no bearing on who our next coach should be.
Conduct the interviews and hire the best man for the job.
I have my preference and it’s Chris Shula. Young, innovative and comes from a great teacher, Sean McVay.
If they can make a package deal, then hire the passing game coordinator Sheelhase (spelling) as our OC.
I also would like to see them interview Klint Kubiak the OC of the Seahawks.
Thats me and who I like but who knows what they are thinking on Water Street in Pittsburgh.

Chuck Noll's first three years Steelers were 12-30.
Flores is no Noll. Nothing to suggest he will be even remotely.

For every similar success story I am sure there are many many more that they simply weren’t good enough.
