Interviews for Steelers new head coach thread

Found this little nugget to add to the fray,

Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula

Shula led the Rams to a top-10 defense in just about every category despite injuries in the secondary. On top of that, the Rams spent the least amount of money on the defensive side of the football, only bolstering Shula’s resume.
And he turned our old friend Witherspoon, who seemed to struggle at times in Tomlin’s defense ,into an excellent corner.

Yep so two of the ones scheduled are definitely attractive hopefully some more to come as they need to turn over every rock obviously 😃

I would love Clint Kubiak, but that won't happen with the Steelers. We need a solid, tough, DC to come in and get Steeler football back on track!
And then watch OC after OC either flounder or get scooped. DC are a dime a dozen. You need the guy calling offense to be the constant.

Should be interesting.... It'll probably be someone nobody has heard of, like a special teams assistant.

I wonder if their odds will change when other interviews are announced…Also knowing our 5 schedules this must have been calculated prior to that.

You don't see that in Flores???
No I do not. what makes you think he would be any better than Mike Tomlin was? seriously what has he done to make you think he would be the guy to turn this team around.

His head coaching with the Phines was. 5-11, 10-6 and 9-8 where do you get the idea he would be a good head coach, especially with a team that is already use to mediocrity. we need a coach that will turn things around and get this team back on course, someone that won't put up with the bullshit we have dealt with for years with these players.

Like I said as DC yes as head coach we will be in another 19 years of the same **** we just got out of. He is not even Mike Tomlin let alone Bill Cowher or Chuck Noll.

So this is the rules in place for in person interviews and hiring for those still under contract with other teams. So we might not know who our coach will be by the end of Jan, it could be not know until after the Super Bowl, depending on who advances to the big game. They can do Zoom interviews that can last no longer than 3 hrs as of right now...

In-person interviews with assistants who are under contract with other teams can begin on Jan. 19, unless those teams are still alive for the conference title games.

Those coaches must wait until Jan. 26, when either they were eliminated from the playoffs or have a bye week before the Super Bowl. Coaches on the Super Bowl teams are allowed to be interviewed through Feb. 1 but are forbidden from talking to other teams after that until Feb. 9, the day after the Super Bowl.

Coaches on the Super Bowl teams are not allowed to interview in person with other teams during the bye week if they hadn’t done an initial virtual interview earlier in January.

No coach can either sign a contract or agree to sign a contract until their season is completed.

Will there be anyone in the current staff retained? And if they all get purged do they all get paid? I don't think any chance Austin and Dr. Phil are staying.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that they have requested an interview with Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero.

In my humble opinion, when accounting for future potential, the two blue chip, Steelers grade, best fits are Shula and Minter and they should be the main focus of the selection committee. This is the #1 open HC spot in the league and, given the weight of a Rooney selection (it’s going to stick for a long time), this should not be a dice roll selection, a retread, or a man approaching retirement age.

DK was speculating yesterday on double shot of Steelers the Rooneys would balk at eating all of the assistants contracts.

This is totally rediculous to me. If true it might cost them the HC they want. The Rooneys half to get out of their old school mind set.

The good news is Austin’s contract is up, but Smith’s is not…maybe Smith gets a HC job but I doubt it, he hasn’t done well here, failed as HC in Altanta, and his magic in Tennessee as OC was a long time ago

Only if the new HC wants them I would imagine. Other than bubbles and the RB coach (can't think of his name) I'm not sure there is much of a market for them.
If I was one of the assistants, I wouldn't be waiting around for the Steelers new HC to be making the offer.

HARD no on Flores, he has peaked.

Short term defense thrives, but offense betters but not near enough, sort of put on back burner……… reminds of the tomlin.

Salute the nation

Why are the Steelers not showing any interest in Kubiak, thus far at least?

All the interest seems to lean towards the defense.
That can’t interview him in person yet so maybe it will still come about.

Was Minter at Michigan when they were doing their version of Spygate?
I believe he was for a year. But, don't quote me on it, because I have to check.

Google says: Yes, Jesse Minter was the Defensive Coordinator at Michigan when the scandal unfolded and faced NCAA penalties for separate recruiting violations, though he wasn't directly tied to the main Connor Stalions sign-stealing scheme, he admitted to impermissible recruiting contacts and failed to report them, leading to a one-year show-cause order as part of Michigan's broader NCAA case.

I hope they at least interview Curt Cignetti. he has a proven track record in college. will that transfer to the NFL? I don't know but I do know this he can turn a team around quick and he is a winner with head coach experience.
