Looks like you just sorted by # of PD's. So, what is the difference from the #95th position and, say, tied for #49th highest? from what I see, it appears to be TWO PD's. A bunch of those above #95 seem to be CB's, which you would expect to see higher, right?

What if we were to compare to the FS on the two teams with the best scoring D for last season? If I do not have the right Starting FS for the Ravens, if you use Tony Jefferson, instead, he has 6 PD's.

The missed tackle number is from Steeler Depot. Davis isn't a good tackler and came in 2nd in this dubious department in 2017.

You just can't take a safety out of a game. Davis does not have good ball skills. Just one gimme interception was made by Davis and more were dropped.

If you want to use 3rd party data like Pro football Focus, they don't think too highly of him.

Put to you in another format, non DB's where were surely target less vs the pass made as many or more plays on the ball.

I have never heard of anyone saying we need to avoid Davis, have you?

The reason he had the most tackles is he makes them way past the line of scrimmage after a player has caught the football in his area . This suggest he was targeted a lot. As I pointed out, zero of the tackles were behind the LOS. And he likely rates near last or last among Free safeties with PD's that played 15 games or more.

So please stop acting like he wasn't target enough unless you can show me the data that he was.

Davis has zero tackles for losses last season. Those with objective eyes understand he's not the ideal starter.

You don’t produce data nimrod, you fabricate it. The metrics of data is pure, the rationalization is based on the formula used. You lack the understanding to rationalize simple numbers and formulas.

I’ll also incentivize your lack of comprehension on the subject, since you can’t answer simple questions without deflecting the topic. You can’t answer questions, because you don’t know the answers. Plain and simple. So make a statement about stats without proving your rationale and bingo you think you are some attuned analyst.

Your original comment was related to INTs. Since you can’t answer the question posited, as usual you deflect to a completely different subject, missed tackles. Which, depending on the source is a statistic with several variables. No doubt missed tackles is a problem league wide. You only provide info regarding the Steelers, but neglect to superimpose how their numbers compare to other teams. One thing you forgot to mention, as a whole the team had a reduction in missed tackles in 2018, including Davis individually. So there was improvement.

In regards to the original subject, I informed you his role n the defense this year was the backside signal caller at FS. Similar to Ryan Clark’s job when he played. He didn’t have many picks or PDs either but covered the field to allow the playmaker SS to roam. He was also the intimidating presence in the middle of the field for receivers and a hard hitter.

This role is what Davis was told to perform. It was reported on Steeler Depot and other writers during Burns collapse, that of all the DBs, Davis had the least pass attempts thrown his way. So, he’s not going to have many chances for PDs if he doesn’t have the targets. Why wasn’t he being targeted? Maybe opposing QBs didn’t want to, or other DBs better risks. As Ark said, provide the PD to targeted ratio. That will give you a true measurement of the stat itself. You tell me I have homework? You are the one claiming he sucks at PDs, INT’s, tackling and indicate PFF would have that info. You have used their BS data in the past so you probably subscribe yourself. Like it matters anyway, PFF is a rag site. So, if you claim it, then back up your statements with the actual data to support it. ***.

Elias Sports Bureau would have all the pure numbers, probably the only site other than Pro Football Reference or the PF Database, both which have the raw data.

Of the stat you referenced, 7 PDs in 13+ games, how many targets were received in those games? How many completions? Then do the math, if you even know how, and compare those numbers to all the other FS’s playing in the same system. What are the rankings then?

If you are going to claim something, provide the facts to back them up. Otherwise, they are opinions....idiotic as they may be,

No, Davis works better in space than being close to the LoS, also I don't want to see Davis in a 3rd or 4th different position in the NFL.

Both Edmunds and Allen have better physical attributes to play that Rover spot

The DBs could rape and write home about it and get away with it, unlike now unless you are a CHEATRIOTS player.. The receivers were a HELL of a lot tougher than they are now. The DBs were good, don't get me wrong it's just two or three era's ago that they played. BEN could have played in that era and would have been a GREAT quarterback.

Thanks Ark, I like this. So you were only able to find one starting safety with less PD's and he's 34 years old and might retire soon.

Jefferson by the way is also listed a a SS, and did not play 15 games or more.

I found something. Let's check this link out and see if what I said was right. Very few NFL starting safites that played 15 games or more had less than 7 Pd's as Davis did, and almost all of them had more interceptions.

I count 91 DB's with more PD's than Davis, and 46 DB's that have more interceptions.

Davis is tied for 80th in interceptions...and many players with 1 interception have more PD's than he does.

Haden didn't see as many targets and I'm saying this by watching the games. However Haden had 12 passes defended and two interceptions. Essentially he doubled Davis out in interceptions and nearly did the same in passes defended. What a great example.

I took a look at this list. Let's sample the top 5 and see where Davis rates.

Adams 3 INT's, 6 PD's. Better than Davis
Porter 4 INT, 6 Pd's, Better than Davis
Smith 3 Interceptions, 6 PDs. Better than Davis
Gilchrist 3 int's, 6 pd's better than Davis
Clayton dix. 3 int, 6 Pd's better than Davis

Jefferson by the way is also listed a a SS, and did not play 15 games or more.

I found something. Let's check this link out and see if what I said was right. Very few NFL starting safites that played 15 games or more had less than 7 Pd's as Davis did, and almost all of them had more interceptions.

I count 91 DB's with more PD's than Davis, and 46 DB's that have more interceptions.

Davis is tied for 80th in interceptions...and many players with 1 interception have more PD's than he does.

Haden didn't see as many targets and I'm saying this by watching the games. However Haden had 12 passes defended and two interceptions. Essentially he doubled Davis out in interceptions and nearly did the same in passes defended. What a great example.

More idiocy. With you “watching the games”Haden didn’t have as many targets but had more PD’s and INTs? How many targets did Davis have while you were “watching the games”? You can’t say because you are biased to your narrative. But of course they wouldn’t be as many as a CB, since he’s playing FS, but you rate Davis in your summation as a CB. How many tackles did Joe have? What his comparison in tackles? It doesn’t have any bearing, because CB’s are not going to lead their team in tackles. They should lead in PDs and INTs. Again what is the percentage of targets to PDs and INTs genius? You don’t know...so you combine all DBs to fit your agenda.

Sean Davis has made about two more plays at DB than Sam Davis made at DB.

I didn't say any of these were worse than Sean Davis. I didn't say anything related to how good Sean Davis is or isn't. You are, once again, moving the goal post.

I responded to one specific comment of yours: you said there wouldn't be many starting FS with less PD.s You just demonstrated that the first five on the list had less PD's and make that like you are correct!

I couldn't tell, from PFR, how many games each person played, so I used players that started 12 or more games, figuring that ought to encompass playing in 3 more. I did not cross reference to snap counts.

I will also note that, again, you want to use rankings because it shows Davis at #90, when, in fact, 2 more PD is all it take to get t 49ish. Still not where you'd like to be but that list includes CB's who are going to see more targets. Shoot, in this league of dump offs, I might include LBs with more targets than Davis. I'd suggest 1 or 2 PD's difference does not explain anything. Especially, if you don't know the targets. Hell 1 or 2 could be a stat taker's judgment.

What if we were to compare to the FS on the two teams with the best scoring D for last season?

What I was attempting to show you, much to my chagrin, that the free safeties for the top two defenses had comparable snap counts and one had less than half the PD's and the other only had 2 more.

As for rankings, by PD only I'd expect the majority of CB's should have more targets and more PD's than a FS. If we assume 75% of those CB's do (and only two "starting CBs"), that'd put you at 48, tops.

Coach this is a maybe not factual. And I base that off the team constantly moving him around. So he has had one year as a FS.

I am not going to beat down any doors to say he will improve, but I think it is a little too early at his current position to say he won't.

They dropped a ton. I can't even tell you the number of times I yelled you gotta catch that at the screen. They also play too safe. The advantage of zone is you are eyeing the passer. You should be able to make an educated guess more often and jump the route.

The Steelers ran the most man coverage out of anyone in the NFL.
