Initial Thoughts - seahawks game

Watching Fautanu in camp and the preseason, he looks the part of a very good offensive lineman, then they get to the regular season and all that talent seems to disappear. Just look at the regression from Jones, JPJ, and Benton after all had promising rookie seasons. Khan/Weidl are drafting pretty well, IMO. But when your coaching staff can't put together a defense loaded with talent, it's a tough ask to expect them to develop a young inexperienced group on offense.

It's hard to say they've been drafting well given all the question marks with players like Jones, Benton, JPJ and Fautanu.

One can more attribute it to lack of development, but a lot of times if talent is good enough it overcomes bad coaching. Granted, a lot of times, bad coaching does actually does ruin good talent as well.

The main thing is that Tomlin has a big hand in both the drafting and development.

It's definitely time to move on from him, but it is pointless to focus on because ownership made it clear with the latest extension for Tomlin that whatever he has accomplished over the past decade is "good enough."

Most teams I see have some type of speedy rookie WR or DB as a kick returner. Usually they’ve had some type of experience doing it in college. I thought our rookie slower RB was horrible last game and worse this game as a returner. This is strictly a coaching decision. And one I certainly don’t agree with. When they got that fat slow guy the previous seasons I disagreed with that too. I don’t get it. I would have rather had Gunner. And that’s not saying much.
Where's Scotty Miller

Tomlin was said to be a real stickler for special teams play. He doesn't teach his players the rules. His country club style training camp shows. Bonehead #20 wasn't taught anything by Tomlin. Tomlin...a players coach.
Why would you need to teach any player in the NFL that if you're the receiving team and you touch the ball in the field of play on a kickoff or punt and muff it that you need to make sure you secure it or it goes out of bounds before the opposing team gets to it?? This goes back to my football IQ statement I made not long ago. Some things shouldn't have to be told to you by anybody when people sitting at home from the comfort of their couch know the rules, or completely understand situational play.

The fact that he touched it alone should have set off his spidey senses. The guy just turns and immediately starts trotting back towards the sidelines....unbelievable.

I think this is why they try to keep patching the ship to sail Tomlin past Noll in career wins, then Tomlin bails and leaves the franchise is tatters.
But this helps fit the narrative. They can say “see how bad things are after Mike left”? 50+ years of instilled “Steeler” way have long gone out the window.

There was a little bit of it in the home finale last year, a lot of Tomlin talk from fans exiting the game as well. It was happening today as well. Tomlin was the main talk on the 93.7 The Fan postgame show, actually, about the only talk.
But when we get our crown of ,5 will he get another extension….Rooney?

I’ve never been so ambivalent about the Steelers as I have been the last 2 years. I watch out of curiosity and root for them, but don’t get upset at losses anymore. It’s just all too predictable and it won’t change until Rooney steps in and either fires Tomlin or fires all of his coaches and lets someone else hire them.
Same here it's more a curiosity and just watching to confirm what we already know.

I think TJ is the least of our worries and his contract is not weighing the team down. We have high paid players all over the defense and it doesnt help. If we didnt have TJ what would we do w/ the money? We just spent 30 mil on a WR and we dont have a big QB contract. We could try buying some lineman I guess, but Im not sure that would help.

They tried that with James Daniels and Isaac Seamulo and it didn't work out, with injuries having an impact.

Unless the Steelers can find another Mike Munchack-level blocking whisperer, they're destined to have poor offensive line play under Tomlin. History illustrates that.

Sounds like I made the correct decision spend the day on the beach..
Weather perfect, tourist gone, and the pelicans were putting on a show !
September Steeler football can’t compete with all that..especially the recent version of Steeler football
Yeah, I didn't see a snap. We had our granddaughter all day.

20 years ago I never thought I be watching Baby Shark da, da, da, da, da, baby shark, da, da, da, da, da over football. Sounds like I made a good decision, too.

Watt keeps seeing double teams

Yet still lines up in the same spot, the same stance, the same goal. NOT a ****-ing thing schematic wise to help any of the DL do better.

Even when lined up in a 3 - 4 alignment,……….. only 4 guys rushing. Nothing different than the 2DL set.

What we saw today was the difference between a college rule and an NFL rule. And what we saw is a coaching staff that did not teach that difference and a coaching staff that did not know that their designated return guy did not know the rules of the position.

What we also saw is an overpriced defense once again underperforming. Players come, players go. Money is spent, then more money is spent. The only consistent players are a head coach who claims to be a defensive guy, and a defensive coordinator who holds onto the only job he could hope to have in the NFL.

You got the wrong coach other than ultimately Coach Tomlin is responsible.

I’ve been calling for Danny “Bubbles” smith termination for a long time. He continuously doesn’t have the players prepared or well disciplined in their ST jobs. Not just today but all along the past, Nash when he fielded a KO that was clearly out of bounds but kept his feet inbounds to do so (that would have moved the ball out to the 40). Bozwell sent out for a trick play and knocked the **** out, then send a NOT prepared Harvin III to place kick, many more examples but you get the drift.

Danny also gets usually 1-3 STs ace that cost a roster spot and yet don’t give the value of return for the cost of keeping them.

This team is TOMLINIZED from the top to the bottom with all the in between infected as well…..

A show called "Umbrella Academy" - a sort of sci-fi/superhero/comedy blend - had an episode where their van had a tape stuck in the sound system playing "Baby Shark" and nothing they could do about it. It was a really dark episode but that sequence was laugh-out-loud funny.

What's the earliest a mock draft has been started on SN?
Not including this year of course.

The only thing we have control over is ourselves and as far as I'm concerned, this current version of the team isn't worth getting upset about because, you know, we have no control.

If today’s game was not an indication of bad coaching that a lot of fans have been hammering home for over a decade then this franchise is truly lost.

I know it’s only week 2, but when a professional football team and it’s personnel do not understand the rules of a kickoff?

Yeah

Is week 2 and we're haveing week 14 break downs allready.

I dont even see basic football stuff. Rogers is going to have something,, either broken ribs or a conniption. Im not sure what happens first.

How can you blame the D for the 7 points given up on the kickoff?
I did say elsewhere that the Seattle got some points on turnovers. Point still stands though.
As John Madden once famously said, "To win this game you've got to score more points than the other team."
