Initial Thoughts - seahawks game

This team is a missed 60-yard field goal away from being 0-2.

And now we will see the unmitigated brilliance of Mike Tomlin as he takes his team into New England to face a bad opponent. We all know what that means.

Finally, why the @#$% is this team going to spend a ton of capital to get a franchise QB when it is glaringly obvious to any sentient being that nothing changes as long as Captain No Losing Season is in charge
I’m betting the Steelers lose in NE.

We’ve allowed 30+ 2 out of 2 games. Last season we allowed 30+ twice all year. We are regressing.

Damn it, 1-1 is not a losing season!! That is all that matters!!

I don't want Queen injured but if he's hurt Id like to see Holcomb next week. Cause it's only injury and Tomlin tea bagged by a solution that leads to change. And I dont even mean replacing Queen or Wilson. Just obvious run downs.

Three players made 3 terrible plays that lost this game:

-Austin ran his man to Muth in the endzone for the interception, Rodgers was screaming at him, good for Rodgers

-Kaleb Johnson-no words needed

-Queen wiffs coming in unblocked on Darnold, he makes that sack and we get the ball back down by only 7

I can't put those plays on the coaching staff, those are on the players

However what is on the coaches/front office and Tomlin who runs everything is:

-Rodgers is running for his life and taking hits in both games, there is no way he stays healthy at this rate, if Rodgers goes down they will go back to cave man offense and it is season over. That offensive line has two first round draft picks on it, a 2nd round draft pick, and a coveted high priced free agent-the fact they can't even be decent is on Tomlin and his staff 100%

-The Defense can't stop the run consistently for another year, and receivers are wide open in the secondary two weeks in a row, at least scheme to stop one or the other

This game could have been won in an ugly fashion.

CA2 made a stupid play in the EZ by bringing another defender into the play AND then going after the ball that looked to be for Muuth. Could have been another 7 points.

Mind numbingly stupid play by the rookie Johnson for not knowing the rules. Even worse that the coaching staff obviously didn’t care that players aren’t prepared. That would have been 7 less points for Seattle.

Why is Gainless involved so much in the O? Another player with compromising photos of the coaches?

While I accept that my position of trading Watt a year or two ago is not popular in the slightest, it is better to move on too soon than too late. Could have gotten 3-4 players over a couple years that may contribute more for way less money.

Old man Cam, same, see above

O line issues are to be expected when you have 4 of 5 starters with 2 years or less in their starting positions. This is not a playoff quality team at this time, likely not later either.

Everyone is whining about not having a WR2 is stupid when they currently don’t have a WR1 they can rely on.

I still say that DK, Muuth, Washington, Smith and Warren should be on the field together 80% of the game.

Without Boz, they never sniff another win all season. That guy is the only consistent part of the team. Well except for the consistently bad Defense.

Tomlin and his philosophy needs to be implemented in another city. Sometimes change just has to happen.

It’s really a shame that the Head Coach with the greatest history of failure is being kept around so he can become the winningest HC in team history.

The fourth quarter started with a 14 point tie. This is what Tomlin likes. Keep it close and then win it in the fourth quarter. Tomlins team melted down in the fourth quarter. Like a Klondike left out in the sun.

Tomlin is the problem.

Period

Send him to another team and I bet he won’t win 6 games all season

Ben bailed him out many years and Rudolph bailed him out a couple years ago.

He is just not a good coach. He’s a talker that’s it

That opportunity has past, his halo has lost its sheen.

I know Watt is not putting up numbers so far, but I think our defensive scheme is just garbage. On passing downs, every time I watched Watt he was blocked by 2 guys before he got to the right tackle who was waiting to block him. Then the ball was out. My question is, what the hell is the rest of the defense doing when 3 guys are dedicated to blocking TJ? Spectating?

I will give the coaches a tiny bit of kudos, though.... On Jack Sawyer's sack, he was lined up just to the inside of Watt. Watt took a wide rush and 3 guys went to block him, and Sawyer had a free run at the QB. That's an actual scheme to take advantage of the other team's tendency, and I don't know if I've ever seen that out of Tomlin-Austin. If that's true, there may be a little hope, but I'm guessing Watt and Sawyer might have been ad-libbing on something, and we'll never see it again.

Bold predictions for upcoming Steelers exploits, both short and long-term:
  • An opponent will score a TD when trying to take a knee to run out the clock.
  • A Steelers kickoff returner will let the ball skip into the endzone, rush to get it, think he is obligated to run it out of the endzone and get crushed at the 2-yard line.
  • Tomlin will explain "it was just a young player trying to make an play."
  • After the Botched Kickoff II, the Steelers run blocking will implode and a safety ensues.
  • During the Tuesday press conference, Tomlin will insist that the offensive line is awesome and needs only that "they beat the man in front of them."
  • When advised that the Steelers running game is averaging 2.8 YPC so that has not happened and is not going to happen, Tomlin will author a bon mot for the ages. "If you can't beat the man in front of you, you need to look at the man inside of you. If the man inside of you is not up to the challenge, look to the man to your left. If he is not up to the task, look to the man to the right. If he is also not able to overcome the rigors of the challenge, then become a new man."
  • After an awkward silence, Tomlin is asked if that means he will be changing personnel. Tomlin repeats, "Look at the man inside of you and beside you, along with you and not with you, your best man and your worst enemy."
  • After another long pause by the media, somebody asks Tomlin if he's drunk. Art II, realizing 5 minutes before the press conference started that Tomlin is indeed loaded, continues his charge towards the interview table to intervene. He is almost halfway there when Tomlin blacks out due to the alcohol consumption.
  • 2026, Steelers draft their franchise QB after trading every pick for the next 3 drafts to move up to 1-1. In a move that stuns the NFL world, the Steelers select Chad Nusswig, a Division 3 quarterback believed to be available as an undrafted free agent.
  • Nusswig then tells the Steelers he is returning to college to finish his degree since he does not want to play professional football and instead wants to pursue his lifelong dream of being a yoga instructor.
  • 2029, Mike Tomlin finally breaks Chuck Noll's record for most wins by a Steelers coach and announces his retirement.

What I'm never going to do is pile on Watt. Sorry not happening. His biggest issue is that he covered up tge ineptitude of the Hc for far too long. The team decided to sign him to a ridiculous contract. If you dont think he is giving his best.....I really disagree.
He could be giving his best plus 200% on top of it. If he isn't getting it done what does it matter besides the fact he is being paid to as he is the best of the best.

Seattle outgained them by 200+ yards.

Rodgers didn't play well, but it wasn't like those around him turned in good days of work either.

The OL is going to be a weakness once again, it seems. Maybe it is just me, but it seems like both Jones and Fautanu have looked bad thus far.

If the Steelers end up missing on consecutive OTs in the first round, it will set the franchise back quite a bit.

As it relates to the defense, it has been so bad dating back to last season it's difficult to determine what the issues are specifically.

They don't do anything well right now.
The issue on D is ......Tomlin. Most have seen that for many years now.

"The schematics were there but you just better believe that we'll run towards the fire at this juncture."
We're unleashing hell in September this year. Because we have to.

If you are being serious.....my sarcasm meters might well be off, Id like you to describe what you mean by blitzburgh defense. That term is as dead as Steel Curtain. They dont play That way creating confusion since more then 10 years ago.

A small amount of truth, but half sarcasm.

They get zero pass rush. It's been crap since last year. So you either start blitzing more or you just die the other way.

It's either that or blow the thing up and go back to a real 4-3 defense.

It honestly doesn't matter this coaching staff can not out scheme the elite.

They can't even do the most basic things. Run the ball and stop the run.

And for the most part they tackle like ****.

Just venting.

Most teams I see have some type of speedy rookie WR or DB as a kick returner. Usually they’ve had some type of experience doing it in college. I thought our rookie slower RB was horrible last game and worse this game as a returner. This is strictly a coaching decision. And one I certainly don’t agree with. When they got that fat slow guy the previous seasons I disagreed with that too. I don’t get it. I would have rather had Gunner. And that’s not saying
it’s bad enough that they have a power back with no shiftiness or break away speed as the returner, but after his “Bubba Bueford” Moment he was pulled and Tomlin puts in HIS STARTING RB! WHAT?!?! Why would you throw Warren into that situation of full speed wrecking balls?

Also, Why is CAIII returning punts? Put in Roman Wilson, he returned kicks at Michigan for piss sakes.

This coaching staff makes us feel like we’re on some Practicle jokers show. Would someone please come out and tell us we’ve been played so the real Steelers organization can come out and play please?

Based on what we've seen, the Steelers are a bad team right now. They struggled to beat the Jets who the Bills demolished today. That is a barometer for where this team is at.

Consistent problems year after year and a bunch of hot air talking about change from Tomlin. There's no change, it's the same story every year.

Regarding Watt, he's being paid too much for his production right now. However, it's back pay for how much he's covered for this defense. Just like Ben in his prime, it's very clear now how much Watt playing like a superhero is what helped propel the Steelers to all those wins when the defense was good. He's not dominant right now and the defense blows.

I think there's a good balance of young and old talent on the team, but the young talent either doesn't develop or regresses after a season. The coaching staff just cannot get it done anymore and it's so far beyond time to make a change.

The issue on D is ......Tomlin. Most have seen that for many years now.

No doubt, but I was referring more to which aspect of the play on the field is the biggest issue right now, though Tomlin definitely has a hand in all of it.

Usually, Tomlin's defenses at least do some thing's well, but it's a been a total cluster **** since last December or so.

Teryl Austin might not survive the season if this continues. Someone has to take the blame.
