Defense looked weak on the first drive...could not get off the field on 3rd down

Neither Howard nor Allar really stepped up. Howard's 2 picks were terrible passes. Allar was hampered by some holding calls and a lot of bad OL play.

On the bright side the defense did well against the back ups. Queen actually made a play. Sawyer got some good pressure and Roberts was just a beast in his playing time. Nice to see him back in his #50. So glad to have him back

Tonyan looked good again and Bruener had a few nice plays himself.

none of the RBs really did a hell of a lot and our return game is still less than average.

It's the preseason but the OL really needs to get their act together and start blocking for the run and pass.

It is nice that the offense continued to make plays over the middle of the field.

Hopefully Rogers stays healthy all season...

Games like this I am sure make the cuts easier.

It was a good measuring stick for my age to see where my passion sits. And I still loathe bad performances, ****** football. Steelers get your **** together.

Really uninspiring play .

To be honest, after last week’s excitement I thought this game was as boring as all ****. The honeymoon is over. I thought Jenkins made a few plays and your old Cougar played well. A good signing. He’s going to bring some momentum to the D. If the OLine doesn’t get its **** together we’ll be seeing one yard passes for the 6th year in a row. The highlight of the game was my neighbor dropping off a fresh huge bag of peppered smoked salmon chunks. I hate the preseason. Time to walk the Pug.

I am hoping that MM held back his real offensive plays. Saving them for the real season.
Starting oline will be fine but man please no injuries
Defense is going ti be better this year
They need another WR. DK and Pittman isn’t enough. Bernard will have his learning curve and don’t get me started on Wilson. What in the holy **** does he do for the Steelers!
I want to paddle my *** out into the ocean and find that ****** and deflate any chance that he finds another castaway. **** you.

Broderick Jones is god awful! Lets not forget he was our #1 pick 4 years ago and the guy was getting smoked by scrubbs tonight! Jets #1 pick Bailey made him look like a fool in the first quarter when Bailey sacked Howard....I don't even think Jones got a hand on him.....He's an Embarrassment to the Uniform!

Will Howard made several poor throws this game.....he should have seen the Safety sitting on that route on the first INT and the second one the receiver was blanketed!

Drew Allar didn't play bad but my god McCarthy....he's the future...don't put him behind a swiss cheese O-line like you did tonight....Your gonna get him hurt out there! Most of Allar's throws were on the money but the receivers repeatedly dropped the passes despite hitting them right in the hands! I counted at least 6...but I lost count!

Elandon Roberts was a man among boys tonight out there on Defense!

Would have liked to seen Germie Bernard......between him and Roman Wilson...who's our #3 WR? I think Wilson has the inside track there.

Lake McRee had a nice catch downfield and had a good showing tonight. Hopefully he ends up on the Practice Squad...He's not replacing Freiermuth, Washington & Tonyan just yet.

Can't wait to see Max Iheanachor get back healthy....He's already our best OT on the team!

I guess best hope on Will Howard is he clears waivers, is a practice squad guy and improves. And Allar didn't look like they don't need to draft a qb either. Rough rough night. Couple guys looked good. Rubio was tough v. Run. Id imagine JPJ's price didn't go down. Brutal night really.

A lot of the same points I was going to make.

Very few standouts tonight with the exception of Roberts. I don't think many, if any, bubble players did themselves any favors.

I'd like to see Allar and Howard switch spots next week and also design some easy targets for Bernard.

I'm convinced Iheanachor can win the starting RT spot with one good preseason performance.

This OL is scary. They need to pick the starters and get them reps together. No more mix and match. Is Iheanachor really hurt or is he preseason precaution hurt? He needs to get out there.

Broderick Jones showed promise early. I don't know if it's injury or a change in coaching but he's getting worse. That first sack was all on Howard though. Howard was already in shotgun and he took a drop from that. You can't expect an OT to block for a QB that far back.

Roman Wilson sucks. I think he was partly to blame on each ow Howard's INTs. Funny how early reports were that ROman looked great and Bernard was struggling. Then pads come on and Bernard makes plays and Roman runs ****** routes as usual.

DK, Pittman, Bernard, Showronek, Wetjen are locks. Roman would be WR6. Everything after that is garbage. None can get open at all. Steelers should look at waiver wires for another WR because Skowronek and Wetjen are mainly special teamers. If they don't trust ROman Wilson, they better cut him or trade him for bag of peanuts and move on.

Initial thought:
As enjoyable as it was to watch last week's preseason game,. this was the exact opposite. I mean, talk about a 180 degree turnaround in 8 days. WTF.

Other thoughts:
1) At least Broderick Jones is consistent -- he was just as bad against the Jets' third-string as he was against their starters. What a dumpster fire of a first-round choice...plus the Steelers pissed away a 4th round pick to trade up for the guy on top of it.
2) Good to have Elandon Roberts back. He always was and is still better than Malik Harrison, who is carrying a $6.8 million cap hit this season. Another head-scratching contract there.
3) Howard made a couple of good throws, but the INTs were killers. Unfortunately, he very well may have sealed the deal for the retention of Mason Rudolph on the Steelers' roster with this questionable showing.
4) Watching one Geno Smith pick apart the Steelers defense (comprised mostly of guys who will be starting in week one) on the first drive was hard to watch. No clue what Dean was doing on that deep out.
5) Had no idea that Minkah is now a member of the Jets. In March, Miami traded him for a 7th round draft pick.

Unfortunately I had to leave when Allar came in so I didn't get to see him. Howard looked ok he had a couple sustained drives capped off by bone head throws. The running game and oline scare me. I think Skowronek is better than people give him credit for. He is just a good solid gritty player and I would start him at WR#3 till Bernard is ready. I can't see Wilson surviving. Rodgers seems to have issues with him and he is not lighting it up. Wetjen needs better ball security. No one I saw on offense had a great game. Allar should get the next start. If MM really likes Howard i think they will keep all 4 QBs. If not I have a feeling MM. values Rudolphs exp more than Howard's upside. Howard would probably get picked up by someone and not make it to the PS.
Hard to judge defense in preseason, but they seemed ok

Thanks Tape. This is exactly what I saw...

The game plan was also very bland on both sides of the ball but I'm not protecting Howard but a lot of blame is on his AND Roman's shoulders for the first half mishaps.

And I'll say it first (since I have not read the whole thread): fire Coach Tomlin!!!

For those that got a better look, it appeared as though Wilson could've ran some better routes on Howard's INTs, particularly the second. The first the safety seemed to have sniffed it out very early.
Well, Let's not forget that Wilson is a "Michigan Man". Why would he want to make plays for QB from tOSU? (Said "tongue in cheek"). But really, it looked like on the first INT that Howard had predetermined he was throwing it to Wilson. And he was taught a quick lesson about why that doesn't work in the NFL. Second one, I hope it was a bad route or miscommunication. Otherwise, wowsers!

Howard is fearless he likes throwing in the tight windows, but he doesn’t have the arm for that..

Didn’t think 44 that in him…nice work last night young man!

The USC kid McRae is a natural receiver of the football
Tight end room is over capacity Level.. could 88 be moving on? That contract vs output is not aligned..

Like to see the Navy and Mt Lebo kid get some return opportunities.. not sold on number 10…His college returnGame is not translating to the pros. in fact, he looks destined for the PS.

I think everybody has given up on number 20 a little too early..I think he gets the number 3 slot..

QB-
Howard really came back to earth. Two horrible interceptions and ran out of some clean pockets. Had a couple nice throws when stepping up into the pocket but he’s far from being ready to be the backup.
Allar had 5 drops and was harassed all night. He had a few not so great plays but all in all he protected the ball and made some really good throws. Not all were caught.
RB-
26 rushes with 7 as a long. Not good.
WR-
Germie was a non factor, Wilson looked awful, and Skowronek was probably the best receiver on the team last night.
TE-
McRee had a nice long catch that was actually held on to.
OL-
We are going to need a good backup because these guys are going to get Rodgers killed. I wouldn’t play rodgers a snap until we had to
DL-
Black had a nice batted ball. Harmon had a couple of tackles. Other than that nothing stood out.
Edge-
Sawyer is looking very capable. We should be 4 deep at edge. Keep everyone fresh and rotate these guys through.
LB-
Roberts looks ready. Bruener had a nice sack. Queen had a nice TFL. Maybe not a super stud on the team but very deep unit.
DB-
Elliot had a nice forced fumble and Jenkins had a nice TFL but nothing else really stood out.

My key takeaway is do we want two developmental qbs? Personally, I give Allar a shot with the ones next week. He had 5 drops from guys probably bagging groceries in a month. Let's see what he can do with better receivers vs a better defense.

I got up at 4:00 a.m. so that I could sit in the passenger waiting area at LAX and get ready to return home after another venture into California. A 3-year old a few seats away is screaming and crying as if he was being tortured (probably because he had to get up at 4:00 a.m.).

My morning has been more enjoyable than watching the Steelers bumble around last night.
