I liked Howard coming out of OSU and had a solid second-round pick on him; he was the 4th-best QB on my big board, just a tick behind Kyle McCord and about 10-12 spots behind Cam Ward, with Jaxson Dart being by far the best. What I liked about him was his floor. I think he has the motivation and work ethic to stick around the NFL a decade as a backup and that's his floor imo. His ceiling is probably a starter maybe a a top 10 passer year here and there. But I don't see HOF traits either. He doesn't have a rocket arm like Favre, or run a 4.3 forty like Vick, or have pin point accuracy like Brees or have a cognitive abilities of Manning. But what I did like about him is his fire and moxy for football.
Allar, I did not like because I saw a lot of Penn state games and I saw him slow to process and almost like he was scared to zip it in there. I also saw his mechanics turn to complete trash the second a little pressure got to him or he got off his rhythm first read. Then I watched the combine. He showed improved mechanics which I can only attribute to some positional coaching outside of Franklin he so desperately needed and I saw him be extremely accurate especially with his deep ball. And my tune changed. In fact, I thought he had a shot to sneak into the first round and had him going to the Steelers in round two. He was the second-best. QB on my board this year. So, I personally like the quarterbacks we picked. But so far Allar has shown elite arm strength and pin point accuracy. I would love to see him get the start vs the Bills to see where he is in his development vs Howard.
