What successes are you talking about in relation to the "Bellicheat" coaching tree in the NFL???
Tomlin sucks at picking coordinators and assistant coaches although you could say he did elevate Bruce Arians. He didnt just allow him to walk after Cowher retired. Some might say Todd Haley was a good hire. Idk if Ben agrees with that?? That being said, he doesnt have an eye for the next big thing and thats an understatement. Thus, he doesnt have the coaching tree you guys would so like to judge him by.
That being said your your disdain or the despise with which you look at Tomlin regarding his Coaching tree actually doesnt take away from his legacy. If you had a bunch of below par coordinators and assistant coaches on your staff and you somehow managed to keep the team above grade he cant possibly be as bad as you make him out to be.
For the record I think the Steelers will keep.him around until the end of the current contract, but mainly because of the money they are paying him. If the Steelers dont make a deep playoff run between now and the end of his contract im counting on him not being resigned. If it was up to me he would not be at least.
The successes I speak of is other teams interviewing and hiring coordinators and coaches that were developed by Bellicheat.
The fact that Romeo Crennel, Jim Schwartz, Eric Mangini, Bill O'Brien, Brian Flores, Josh McDaniels, Al Groh, Joe Judge, and Charlie Weis all got HC gigs.
NOT saying they were awesome. Not saying they should have been given their respective jobs. Not saying anything other than 31 other teams besides the Patriots (and colleges) wanted a piece of the awesomeness that is Bellicheat, and hoped that poaching one of these guys would work out for them because Bellicheat is a genius and taught these men "the way".
My ask is - IF Tomlin is the bag of chips you think he is, by the Tarzan like swinging you're doing off his jockstrap, how come there is not one single NFL head coach (or college) that came from him? How come nobody has interviewed for a head coaching job after being under him?
And no, you do not get to count Arians, as he was a holdover on the staff from Cowher. Tomlin did not hire him.
Todd Haley was NOT Tomlin's call, it was Rooney's. That is well documented. Just like Ben was not Cowher's pick and forced by Rooney. And Haley is from another tree anyways and was a retread at that time.
You say a coaching tree isn't a measure of a coach's greatness. Maybe that's true.
But I'm just talking about the total galactic size canyon between the media public perception of Tomlin is, which is your perception, that he walks on water and is merely screwed by shoddy QB play the last decade, and the reality that the other 31 teams (and colleges) don't think of him anywhere near that as they haven't even asked permission to interview a coach on his staff. IF you and the media were correct in your thinking, wouldn't a team want SOMEONE under him that learned the same magic, or that he taught the formula to for never a losing season? Don't you think the Browns, Jets, Iowa, and/or UCLA would love that about now?
