I'm Nervous About This Draft

Missouri edge rusher Shane Ray will likely need foot surgery for the injury that kept him out of the Combine, according to Lance Zierlein.

Ray injured his toe during the school's bowl game and the Combine medicals kept him out of participating. PFT's Mike Ryan recently passed along word that Ray's toe showed up again on medical re-checks last weekend and it has not healed as much as hoped. "I'm hearing more and more concerns about his foot and I think he ends up sliding," Zierlein tweeted. An end of the first-round to second-round selection is absolutely possible.

So it's possible that our pick could come down to an athletic DE to OLB conversion project who has had two hip surgeries, yet seems to pass the eyeball test as far as being all the way back to healthy and a DE to OLB conversion project rated higher than the first guy, who has to have toe surgery before training camp and whose availability in year one might be limited ... Great

I hope we don't take Ray.

I would argue this and be very adamant about it.

Even though he flamed out early, Lamar Woodley was a key factor in reaching 2 Super Bowls and winning one as he averaged 11 sacks a year -- but if you tell me I'd get that kind of production like he did from a 2nd round pick, I'd take it.
Timmons, is the guy ever going to get credit?
Heyward is already the vocal leader of the defense and an emerging beast
Gay has been a solid pick
Worilds wasn't the level of his predecessors -- who was? He'd still be the envy of most teams OLB needs for a long time.

Lets give a chance to Thomas, Shazier and Jones who haven't had real season yet

I've always said that Timmons, Heyward, and Gay were good. Hell, I've been one of the handful of people here who sticks up for Willie Gay.
I agree that we couldn't have foreseen that Woodley's play would drop off after he got the big contract.
Worilds was adequate but obviously he decided to retire when he didn't get the big FA offers from other teams that he was expecting. I don't think he was worth the tag money he got last year but then they didn't have anyone else. If your heart isn't in the game then we don't need you anyway.
I think Thomas has the potential to be decent, Shazier also but it's too soon to tell, and Jones will never amount to anything or play a full season without getting hurt.
