If the Steelers want a QB early in the 2018 draft, things just got better

Thank you New England.

San Francisco won't be drafting a QB high in 2018nnow that they have Garoppolo

This means a first round talent will be dropping.

It also means we have a potential trading partner if we want to trade up.

The 9'ers would be stupid not to take a young QB early in the draft. They'll only have a few games to see what Jimmy can do for one. For another, You draft the young kid and let him either 1) develop behind Jimmy or 2) fight it out for the starting job.

They will still be drafting top 5. We arent trading into the top 5

I think what he's saying is they won't be taking a QB at their spot, so it will push one down a bit. I don't think they'll take one early. Honestly, I don't think any of the QB's coming out this year are worth mortgaging the future and having the Steelers trade up for.

Depends on how they view Jimmy. Judging on what they gave up for him, I would say they view him very highly.I actually would be highly surprised if they went the QB route now. As they want to build a team around Jimmy that doesn't entail drafting another QB high.

As far as the Steelers trading up. Probably not. Especially top ten. But IF Ben goes bye bye, don't put all your chickens in a basket that they wouldn't move up at all.

Yes. When you draft a QB in round one, you pretty much mortgage the future of " x " amount of game, so I say get a good one.

Hype aside I think there could be 5 QB's taken in round one, and there might not be a lot of separation between them.

There are always qbs taken in r1, but the question is are any of them worth a damn... if there is a true franchise guy by your scouts perspective when you draft you take him period, whether you need him or not... if you need one and a true franchise guy is available, you trade whatever it takes to get him.

They are tge most valuable commodity and the hardest thing to obtain... I don't care if you have terry bradshaw, if dan Marino is there, you take him.... and just taking bpa at qb is dumb... compare a qb coming out to the past ten years of drafted qbs... if the guy is near the top in your metrics , he is worth targeting... if hes a lower end or middle guy, don't draft him high because he is tge best or second best of that crop.... trade the pick for a first the next year and something lower the current yearrather than waste it

I was actually thinking the exact opposite. By trading Garoppolo, New England is going to be looking for Brady’s eventual replacement. With all the QB talent in this years draft, they have the ammunition to jump way up and grab their next QB of the future. Brady has 1 or two more years tops.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking to be honest. But I don't think they have a first round pick this year.

The Browns will have the first pick, I perdict they take a QB

I don’t think garapolo stop the 49ers from drafting a QB. All he cost was a 2nd rounder and his salary is not that high. This is a half season tryout. If they like him, then they sign him to a big contract and then they are out of the QB market. But until they pay Garapolo, they are still in play.

Id say what matters more is what the crop is like. You do have to worry about a high second team jumping into the first to take qb. I dont want A guy I want THE guy. If that means a stop gap and sucking for a couple years Im fine with that.

Why worry? The dump Ben crown decided franchise QB's are easy to find 10 years ago.

Dumping Ben and asking him to play up to his potential are two different things.

There’s a strong chance that Garappolo will blow chunks and the Niners will still go with QB in the first.

If the pats thought Garapolo was the real deal then there's no way they'd let him go. If anything, they'd let Brady go first.

We saw it happen with Montana and Young, Favre and Rodgers, Manning and Luck, and even Bledsoe and Brady.

When a team has an old QB and a young QB and they think that young guy is the real deal, they let the old guy go. That is how it works. Nobody decides to ride it out with the old guy, no matter how good he is.

Nobody has any idea how good Garapolo is. He has little regular season experience. Landry Jones looks great in preseason too.

I dont think Garolopolo is Rogers or Young or Luck good but he is a FA next year. They are not dumping Brady one year removed from a SB sorry. The writing was on the wall for Montana, Favre and Manning. Those guys were in decline.

No they weren't. Montana was still playing at a high level, then missed nearly 2 years with an elbow injury. Young played great in his absence, and the Niners decided to stick with him. As we all know Manning suffered a serious injury, and the Colts collapsed, giving them a shot at Luck. Given Manning's age, and the seriousness of the injury, the Colts correctly decided to move on. Manning had monster seasons his first three years in Denver, before age, and injury finally caught up to him. Favre was still playing at an elite level when GB made the decision to move on. Favre then continued to play at a high level, until he finally retired. The decision was strictly about his age, and the potential they felt Rodgers had, which of course, has been proven out.

And will inevitably pick the wrong one

RIP, Lamar. We hardly knew ye.

1. Cleveland Browns: Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville
The Browns attempted to trade for A.J. McCarron and failed because they forgot to submit the paperwork. This secretly saved them, as I discussed in the NFL Disaster Grades. Cleveland could try to obtain McCarron again, but it really depends on what the new regime will want to do.

DeShone Kizer showed promise during the preseason, but he hasn't shown any signs that he can be a viable NFL quarterback. Despite getting good protection, Kizer has made lots of mistakes and has held on to the ball too long in the pocket. Kizer was only a second-round pick, anyway, and we saw the Panthers give up on Jimmy Clausen, another second-rounder, after one year when they selected Cam Newton first overall.

I've had Sam Darnold as the top quarterback for a while, but he has struggled so much this season that I'm wondering if he returns to USC for 2018 in an attempt to rebuild his draft stock.

The battle to be the top quarterback could be between Lamar Jackson and Josh Rosen. If so, I think Jackson would ultimately win out, as he has higher upside and better intangibles. He needs to improve his ball placement, but coaches are going to fall in love with his skill set.
