Or even if they get WJIII, I hope the Steelers could pick up Elandon Roberts out of Houston as an ILB late in the draft

He didn't see a lot of action until this past season, but he had a hell of a year. He was used on Special Teams also and was always down field quickly.

2015: Led the nation with 88 solo tackles while ranking fourth nationally and leading The American with 142 total tackles ... team captain, started in all 14 games at linebacker for Houston in 2015 ... invited to the NFLPA Bowl following the season ... had double-digit tackles in seven games including Houston’s win over Florida State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl where he finished with 10 stops including two for loss ... tallied five tackles and a forced fumble in the team’s win over Temple in The American Championship game ...

At 5-11 3/8, 234 pounds, scouts clocked Roberts in 4.49 to 4.53 seconds, which is faster than most running backs. His official time was 4.60. He had a 36-inch vertical leap, a 10-0 broad jump and bench pressed 225 pounds 25 times.

Several NFL scouts said they came away impressed by Roberts' mobility, power and how he performed in positional drills. The primary draw to the heavily attended Pro Day was Cougars cornerback and projected first-round draft pick William Jackson, who had dinner with Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Kevin Colbert and secondary coach Carnell Lake on Wednesday night.

However, Roberts made a big impression on the crowd of NFL personnel. Roberts performed linebacker drills supervised by Texans linebackers coach Mike Vrabel, a former New England Patriots Pro Bowl linebacker.

I don't know if Roberts will slip through undrafted...Houston has a RB who will either go late or hopefully get a shot as an undrafted FA...Kenneth Farrow. He played special teams coverage all 4 seasons and was solid running and catching the ball out of the backfield. He also blocks well, he opened a lot of holes for the QB Greg Ward Jr. Three year team captain, solid guy on the field and in the locker room

You may get both wishes Coolie

Coolie will be pimping Terron Beckham next

no, being pimped is what Coolie does best.

Lets bring in Andre Ware as offensive coordinator

I've heard a few interviews with this kid and he sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders...in several of them he kept making the point that he could not have done what he did last season without the guys around him on the defense and his coaching staff

While all eyes were on Jackson, Elandon Roberts was turning heads.

Unlike Jackson, Roberts did not receive an invitation to the NFL combine and was forced to rely on his pro day workout to make an impression on the assembled scouts in attendance representing 31 teams.

“When I was getting calls asking me why I didn’t get invited to the combine, I didn’t put my head down,” Roberts said. “I came out here today and I said I’m going to respond, and I definitely feel like I raised some eyebrows today.”

The 6-foot, 234-pound linebacker managed 25 reps at 225 pounds on the bench press, turned in a 36-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot broad jump, and ran a 4.60 in the 40-yard dash.

“I heard that they were very pleased in my 40, and my broad, my vertical,” Roberts said. “I just tested out all the way excellent today.”

Even before Roberts took his turn on the bench press, Tomlin pulled him aside in the weight room to let him know that he liked what he had seen of him.

“He definitely loves what he sees in me, in my film, and I definitely came out here and showed him that the film speaks for itself,” Roberts said. “I came out here and showed him that my hips are good, and I can definitely run.”

Meh on Roberts. He would be a very typical Tomlin LB selection. Reminds me of a very poor-man Sean Spence on film.

That's his game against Memphis. If I was scouting him my notes would be:

Undersized, engaged ILB that is probably best suited to WILL in the NFL. Can get washed out easy inside with traffic and is best as a runner-hitter. Shows very good burst downhill when he sees the play and can get after it. Don't think he's very good in coverage and lacks lateral movement skills. More of a straight line player and has tight hips. Best in underneath zone coverages where he can click-and-close downhill. Could have maxed out frame and might not be able to gain much more weight. What you see is likely what you get. Has potential as a late-round draft pick that earns a spot as a special teamer and then hopes to find a good scheme fit and opportunity to earn his stripes on the field. Round 6-7

stiff hips was an issue for Roberts. His coaches told him that and he went and trained to improve that before the Pro Day.

He led the nation in solo tackles and was fourth in the nation in total tackles....

he was part of a defense who made Navy turn into a passing team and really shut down Dalvin cook in the Peach Bowl...

I would not expect him to go any earlier than the 5th round, but would not mind at all if the Steelers took a flyer on him in round 6 or 7
