If he's released...

Is he (Stephens) eating the wings before or After the conditioning test? I wan't to see the players fanning him with a towel before the Chin tells him to get out of Latrobe...

Troy Edwards - the list goes on

I'd have to say Huey Richardson, only last one season here, and only 2 in the NFL.

Exactly... We got far more out of Jones than we did from Richardson... Jarvis is average... Richardson was too stiff to play in the nfl...

He will be on the roster until the end of the year, then signed to a cheap one year deal by another team.........if that.

I'm going to disagree on Richardson for a couple of reasons.

A) He was a defensive player and in Pittsburgh defensive players rarely see much action in their first couple years.

B) He was playing off his natural position his rookie year at ML, instead of OL. Ultimately he sucked there too, but still...

With Stephens, you had a fat guy who literally could NOT finish the conditioning test that he KNEW was scheduled. He KNEW what was expected of him. That's a full on bust there. Stephens HAD been a starter, HAD played some games. Maybe not too well, but at least he'd had SOME experience.

I gotta give it Stephens the nod over Richardson.

However in this case, we're talking about Jarvis... Personally - I suspect that Stephens still wins the biggest Steeler bust award over Jones. At least Jarvis shows up to camp and runs the drills without ******** himself. He may not be able to actually record much in the way of sacks or even pressures, but by golly, I'll say it. he's no Jamain!

There is that possibility of a two year cheap contract with the STEELERS. C-H-E-A-P is the operative word here. I know we are weak at OLB but Jones is better than nothing, but not by much and knowing the Tombert beast as we do............

Salute the nation

Defensive guys play here, especially under Cowher, Hampton and Bell starters as rookies, Kirkland was a starter in year two, brown started 9 games as a rookie, full time starter in year two, troy played in every game as a rookie, etc.

Ok, Tom.

Hampton was / is a HOF level player. The same is even more true of Troy.

Bell was a 1 year wonder who beat himself to **** and never did much of anything again. (And in fairness, Bell was essentially asked to do ONE thing. Blitz the **** out of the QB.)

Kirkland was only a starter because people in front of him left. (The end of the Greene / Lloyd Era) The same is true of Brown.

Huey Richardson was drafted by another coach, put in the wrong position because he was the wrong size and when Cowher couldn't get him to make a quick transition - he traded him off. Clearly Richardson sucked. I'm not arguing that. But it's not like Cowher made a habit of starting defensive rookies.

Jamain Stephens (imo) screwed himself over by coming to camp fat and happy. That's just a case of being too dumb for your own good. But I can't argue that Richardson was worth much either.

At any rate, I only got the "Jones will be the Biggest Bust" thing from a goofy Yahoo article and put it up for discussion. While I feel as though Jarvis has vastly underperformed, I can't honestly say I believe he's even in the zipcode of biggest first round bust ever.

Worst first-round pick in the past 10 years = Jarvis Jones, with Ziggy Hood being second.

Neither, however, were as bad as Stephens, or Huey Richardson.

Ziggy is still playing in the NFL, he wasn't used right here..............

Jarvis probably maxed out this year. To be 100% honest I think he'd be better off as a Sam backer in a 43. He gets matched up too often on OT's who just man handle him. He'd be better off being matched on the TE for blitzes and run support. I don't think he'd be great at it but he'd be manageable there.

He's a backup type who starts when someone is hurt. A reserve 4-3 DL player. We tried to put a square peg in a round hole. Didn't like this pick from day one, and no he would not be starting for us if Heyward wasn't hurt.

For whatever reason, Hood kept Heyward on the bench for too long. Never heard the reason why. Hood wasn't doing much. Player the younger player with upside when this happens, especially if he's your first round pick.

Ziggy would actually thrive more now the way we use DE's. They rush a lot more now. I always thought he could have provided depth. Jarvis just cannot rush the passer at all. He would be nice to have for depth purposes, but that's about it. Dupree and Chick/1st round rookie will start next year I assume.

Kirkland was here before Greene, same for Brown. Joel Steed is another, started almost half his games as a rookie, full time starter year two, Darren Perry full time starter from year one.

Until he gets on the field, Dupree is in the discussion. Draft position has to be part of it and Dupree was a high pick. I expect Dupree to be good, but if he fizzles out, then he's a bigger bust than Jarvis. Jarvis has at least played at the level of a decent backup.

I would not mind Jarvis coming back so long as they sign him to a cheap contract. That could happen as it's hard to see him generating much interest. If they can keep him, i'd like to see him learn ILB. I think he can be a good fit with Shazier and backing up Vince. Jarvis coul possibly be a cheap backup at 2 positions which the steelers like.

Jarvis Jones will officially be the Steelers Biggest 1st round bust ever.

Somewhere Jamain Stephens is havin' a bucket o wings.

Not even close to being true. Jamain Stephens and Huey Richardson were far worse. Not only did they get cut within two years, they never played for other teams either, because they were that bad. Jones was probably a 5th-round talent taken in the first, but he at least could make a team as a back up, but unlikely as a starter, unless it's a really bad team. Actually, hell, Ziggy Hood was every bit as bad of a pick. I actually forget, another 1st round pick on the front 7 was wasted with this crew. That makes 7 first rounders used on the front 7 in the last 10 years, and the D still sucks? THAT is some losing-*** drafting. Our D should be a ******* juggernaut. Well, it kind of is if we played the Browns every week.

Oh, and Kendall Simmons is as bad a pick as JJ. And Troy Edwards was even worse. But make no mistake, I am not defending the JJ pick; it sucked real bad.

Dupree, in his limited playing time, has already demonstrated he has the ability to put up superior production than JJ. But if he doesn't make it on the field, that won't matter. How the F did he get so damn hurt to begin with? What was he doing when he tore up his core? Does anyone know?

Troy Edwards has my vote.

Actually, stats say Ziggy wouldn't have been any better now than he was then. Since Pgh, he played on some 4-3 Ds, and he sucked. He had one sack in Jax, none in Chicago and one so far with the Skins. His combine #s just are not a good indication of his productivity on the field. The Steelers made the error of falling in love with workout #s while not paying attention to actual on-field production. He was a **** draft pick.

He might be worth a 7th round pick. He is nothing better than that.

Jarvis would make a slow ILB. I see him coming back at a discount next season. I root for him cause of UGA bias. But his career has been below the 1st rd expectations. It's hard to be the next Harrison/Porter etc. If JJ can even muster up just one season like Woodley and show a glimpse of hope. Keep him as a backup fa sho
