Rumors are Cousins is going to the Niners.
When Ben retires Pouncey and perhaps Foster are going to hold the door then leave with him. Never really thought about it but without #7 the Offense will likely have to be re invented.

I wouldn't mind the Blake Bortles route for short term. What I definitely DON'T want to do is reach in the first for a QB who's not worth the spot.
Put Dobbs at the helm and go for a Top 5 pick or pick up a Tyrod Taylor Band-Aid-type until Ben 2.0 is available/ready. I wouldn't break the bank on Cousins. He's decent, but not so sure worth $15+M/yr plus the signing bonus to get him here.

Why go there when Lynch has Garropolo?
i don't want Cousins. If he was that good, the redskins would have signed him already. He eats up bad defenses but has not been great when it counts. I'm not paying big money for just "pretty good". That's how the ravens got in trouble when they paid Flacco like he's more than what he is.
I know it's all but accepted that any QB with a pulse gets $100 Mil but it doesn't mean it's smart.
No to Paxton Lynch. This guy is a first rounder and he can't beat out Brock Osweiler. No thanks.
Sam Bradford - no way. This guy is a China Doll
Tyrod Taylor - i would be interested in Taylor if he came at the right price. I'm not sold he's great but i think he'd be pretty good with the steelers weapons and might be a good placeholder until they found the next franchise QB. He could be the new Tommy Maddox.
Christian Hackenberg - i know he's polarizing and even half of PSU fans think he stinks but he could probably be brought in for almost nothing. This only played 1 season on college or NFL where he had decent protection and somebody to throw to and that was his freshman year where he looked really good.
He has so much upside, he'd be a great developmental prospect. The Jets are crazy for not finding out iof he can play this year, and No, a few quarters of preseason and splitting snaps in camp is not enough to know if somebody can play.
Look at Jared Goff. Last year he looked like an epic bust. One of the worst statistical seasons for a QB ever. This year he has a better coach and people to throw to and he looks like he may be a future star. It's hard to judge a QB in a bad situation.
Josh Dobbs - i just don't see him as more than a career backup, a replacement for Landry Jones. Won't surprise me if he has a short playing career then starts coaching.
So if Ben was gone next year. I think you bring back Landry and Dobbs. You try to get Tyrod Taylor if he's not asking for too much. I think maybe $12 Million is the max i would offer. If you can get him for less, i'd grab him.
Best Scenario
Sign Tyrod
Draft a QB with a high pick
luck has never been anything but an over hyped so so NFL QB
You draft a QB in R1 of the draft no matter what Ben does this offseason
luck has never been anything but an over hyped so so NFL QB
but since Ben is not walking away from all that $$$$ none of this matters
Stoudt was the backup to Terry Bradshaw from 1977–1982 before taking over as starter during Bradshaw's injury-plagued and final season in 1983.
Stoudt led the Steelers to a 9–2 start, but the team melted down late in the season. Steeler fans, accustomed to Bradshaw's late game heroics, turned viciously on Stoudt. The Steelers managed to win the AFC Central with a 10–6 record and stumbled into the playoffs, but were quickly dispatched by the Los Angeles Raiders
After the 1983 season, Stoudt left Pittsburgh, signing with the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL. During the season opener on March 11, 1984 against the Pittsburgh Maulers at Three Rivers Stadium, Stoudt was heckled and pelted with snowballs by the fans. It would turn out to be the only sellout in the one season history of the Maulers.
disagree...he's shown flashes but he has been mauled on a continuous basis.
think about what that guy could do with our OL and weapons.
if we could acquire in a decent deal...and his medical checks out (which is very questionable right now), I would love that move.
I don't see why it is so out of the question that the Steelers would be able to lure a decent veteran QB in FA, we would be similar to Denver a few years ago when Peyton saw them as the best option as a contender and having the most talent. I'm sure an Alex Smith would rather play for us rather than a team he knows won't be as competitive. Who would he sign with? Jacksonville might be the only maybe, but after that who, the Jets? The Browns? The Bills? Back to the 9ers? I guess the Broncos maybe, but this is all considering that those teams would even be interested.
Well the Steelers probably won't go after one. They have Jones already.
That doesn't actually disprove or negate what I said
Well history says other wise.
