I'd imagine Ben is motivated

I didn’t quote your post nor was I posting with your words in mind.
Pointing out the fact this is what Ben’s peers think of him, which I think carries some meaning/weight to it.
Whereas lists by media/non players is only good for the bottom of the birdcage.

It carries very little weight. Well under 50% of the league actually played against him last year, so they are going by what the talking heads are telling them. All they heard this offseason was that he was washed up, so that's how they voted for him.

Sorry. I missed the part where the players said they put zero thought into it and just used NFL Network’s prefabricated list.
The whole “shut up and play ball” argument is actually valid here. These are the people who are the actual paid professionals currently playing and evaluating the players they’re listing.
I value their opinions over EVERY single person on this site, including my own, and EVERY other person on the planet NOT receiving a check for being an NFL player.
Sorry to be the bad news delivery boy, but we’re a bunch of keyboard warriors and fans……you know, NOT professional football players.
They watch tape. Study tendencies. Tells. Weaknesses. Etc. They’ve forgotten more yesterday than we think we’ve accumulated in our lifetime.
While I don’t think it’s a serious list as the NFL Network pimped it as ( that’s me directly referencing you now, topnazi ), and while the players 1/2 clowned around with it, it’s still “more meaningful” than any media composed list.

The thing is, they aren't playing over half of the people on the list. Less than half of the people in the league played against Brady, and yet they felt comfortable voting him as the 9th best player in the league - even after what was a crappy year until the playoffs.

They only watch tape on players that they are going to play against. There is no way that anyone in the NFC beyond the teams in the east division watched one minute of tape (beyond highlights) of anyone on the Steelers team. Yet they voted for/against the Steeler players. The only thing they have to base that decision on is reputation, and reputation comes from the talking heads.

Using Brady as an example, since he’s been in the league 20 years, a lot of these guys have played him at least once every 4 years. Not sure what actually playing against someone in a calendar year has to do with the annual amount of yak manure in India, though.
Do you not think these guys watch games of those they don’t get to play against? Do you think these guys treat this as a normal 9-5 job?
Do you think because some of them didn’t play against people on this list they’re somehow unqualified to offer a more valid opinion than us who merely watched all the games from the stands/on TV?

But they didn't play him last year. The judgement was who were the top 100 players last year. It certainly would be important that you knew what they did in that time period. And with the first half of the year, I have trouble seeing Tom Brady as #9.

They don't have time to watch games. What, you think that someone playing a 4pm game is watching the 1pm games and vice versa?

I'm not saying they're less qualified than us. I'm only saying that they really don't have a strong basis for judgment, that over 50 percent of the people they are rating, they are rating based on what other people have told them for the time period that they are supposed to be rating the other players. I'm not implying that either you or I would be a better judge, though.

Looking at the NFL's pre-draft rankings. It's laughable. Ben is at 154. Harris and all three of the top receivers are above him (some far above him).

I'm just trying to think how three wide receivers could all be ranked above their quarterback. Who does the league think is throwing to them?
 
Ben is ultra-motivated...all the time. I don't think a man of his caliber needs bullshit motivation factors from talking heads like marsha brady does.

A lot of the team around him won't be that good though. I predict 8-9, at best 9-8, no playoffs, and Ben hangs 'em up at the end of the season if the all-new OL doesn't get him killed first. If someone would start the season record prediction thread.....
Upside, this season will begin HCMCS' slow march toward the exit.

Depending how things fall......9 and 8 easily could make the playoffs in any given year. Especially now that we have a seventh playoff slot.

True. I'm hearing that the Ravens may not be as good as last year. Kinda doesn't matter if they're 0-17, 17-0, or somewhere in between since Shades has shown that he can't win a playoff game anyway.
Remember, in our last three consecutive playoff games our opponents scored 40 or more points.

I am not a Butler guy but I read Tomlin ran the defenses in those games. If that is the case maybe if Butler gets a go round things might be better....hopefully.

Unfortunately I think Shades was running the D because he's better than Butler.

Absolutely...9 and 8 was my prediction a while back. And Butler can hit the road any old time as far as I'm concerned.
