I wonder if the loss of James Harrison had anything to do with the rise of the selfish me first, a team fifteenth type of players on the Steelers.

Harrison, when he was and still a force ( Say up to the 2012 season ) was the type of leader who would kick your @ss if you got out of line. A Jack Lambert or Greg Lloyd type of presence who hated to lose.

When Harrison's star faded, the divas began to rise, and Tomlin coaching and management style couldn't deal with it.

I could be 100% wrong, but it's an interesting question to ponder when you consider the timelines.

yet another post from the bottom of the stupid barrel.

I think he was pretty damn good up till last year

James Harrison is proving to be a diva in his own rights post-football. He was a little DIVA in his playing days but pointed against NFL management in doing so. YES I absolutely think he helped keep the DIVAism down while he was playing. No-one wanteds to piss him off and the timing of the meMEme's coincided with his decline. Could you imagine lambert / greene / webster on todays team with 70's mentality................ AB's funeral would be tuesday at 1pm..................................

Salute the nation

It's this simple, Cowher/Colbert drafted alot of guys that loved football, were all about winning and the team. When Tomlin took over all those guys were still here, so he had no need to try be a leader, they were very talented as well. As those guys left the attitude in the locker room went with them. And Tomlin has no clue how to deal with it.
It's nice to see guys coming to Ben's defense now, Bettis, Holmes, Batch, Cowher

That was my point. Noll would have punted AB and fined him. Lambert and Greene...AB better not pull any crap in practice.

The date here is key 2012, which likely was Harrison last really good season. Currently on the team we have no stand up leaders that will get after divas old school.

That's also the year AB got his money

You could say that. When Cowher's star players became old and retired, the internal policing, which is I think an underrated part of football became less, and Tomlin with his on and off rules just wasn't equipped to deal with it.

I once meet Greg Lloyd; he was in a large shopping mall that I just happened to be at when I heard the news, so I stood in line to meet him. I've met two heavyweight boxing champions, and let me tell you Lloyd has an aura of inestisty around him as I've never felt before.

Anyway, to date me a bit, Jason Gildon was projected as the new starter in the coming season. When I asked Greg will Jason Gildon be ready, he stated me and said in a deep voice, " He F'n better be or I kill him. " Old school bad @ss, he was ready to go if anyone said something stupid. He also didn't care if any of the younger boys waiting in line heard him.

Maybe Goodell's version of football has put a damper on these type of players. I wish we still had one on the team that could play well, preferably on defense.

Harrisons acting liking a diva, actually might have started all of this.

I don't think Harrison is a cause. Rather I see him as the first clear result of Tomlin's ineptitude.

Tomlin lied to him, kept him on the hook and from what I understand about Harrison he was a "Don't bullshit me" kind of guy. I can tell you that a guy like Harrison who is probably one of the most alpha-competitors you'll ever meet is likely NOT going to take it very well when he shows up on game day to be told he's been de-activated. That would fly like a lead balloon. Once, maybe you get away with it. Twice, he will go off on you. 3 times and he's probably just going to say "**** you." Which it seems he did.

I haven't been following much, you mean re: the AB drama? Any links or videos?

The leaders as we know are all gone now save Ben without much help from anyone else in that locker room. Heyward, Tuitt, Pouncey and Foster, these guys just simply do not strike me as leaders and maybe its just the sign of today's NFL. In all fairness to these players mentioned, with today's NFL all these guys make large amounts of money and of course have huge egos and most likely feel as though each man should police himself. These current guys have so much more than just football as opposed to their peers of yesteryear.
I think we as fans may get stuck in the past of the Greene's, Lambert's, Bradshaw's, Rocky's and Websters, Lloyd's, Woodsons, etc. and even the more recent past with the Smith's, Kiesel's, Harrison's, Troy's, Hampton's,Clark's but today's players just are not of the same mindset maybe.

I think that if you want to make a comparison to the new benchmark of today's NFL you have to look at the most successful franchise and thats the Pats. I think you have one leader of that team and his word rules no matter who you are and thats Belicheck. No special preference for anyone when it comes to being on time for practice, meetings, walk through, what have you.
A team must have that head coach that commands respect and has instilled an element of fear with the players. Now look at what we have here in Pittsburgh. The head coach does not command the respect that a head coach should. Geez, look at what Brown did to him mocking him at Tomlin's press conference. That would never happen with Belicheck, never. Then you have Artie II that seems to be in denial that there's nothing wrong.

What Artie II has to do is realize and accept there is a problem and fix it. First by laying the law down to his head coach and telling him how he expects his team to be run and that he's not happy with being embarrassed with the latest drama. He tells Tomlin to fix it or he cannot even consider an extension.

Next, Artie II needs to tell Browns agent that Brown needs to contact him immediately and if he doesn't his days are over here and we will do whatever is best for our team and trade him to where we get the best return and if its not SF, oh well! Take a tough approach Artie and change this crap now. And Tomlin control your team and be its leader or else get the **** out and get on with your life's work.

Excellent point. Tomlin did lie to Harrison. It only added to his negative reputation. I don't think Harrison is making things up about Tomlin, rather he's telling the truth to the media and getting even in his own mind.

Just wait, if AB leaves, brace yourself for jaw dropping news on cool shady.

AS MUCH AS EVERYONE BASHES ON TOMLIN & his leadership why doesn't this make sense?

I am a great Company guy making 3K a week, but my boss has ran our Company into the ground...I used to show up 2 hours before work as I work commission & was killing it...Now it is a struggle to even come into this pit...I make about 1/3rd and we have lost business in ways we never should have...JUST LIKE STEELER GAMES

Once I realized every ******* move my boss made sucked, I started to no longer care, it is a sinking ship...

If the leadership is weak you lose heart. Look at all the NBA trade requests on today's front page....

And that is exactly why most bash Tomlin because he is not a good leader. Tomlin being the HC needs to be the leader of his football team. Thats one of the main reasons why he was hired.

James Harrison is proving to be a diva in his own rights post-football.

I don't see Silverback as a diva at all. He's one of those bigger than life characters that could change a game all by himself. And did it bunches of times. He gets a pass from me on any 'behavior', and I don't see any to report. The way he prepared and played exempts him from any diva commentary.

NE? He wanted to play football. He beat himself to be in shape to play and he got strung along by a numbskull that has not the slightest clue how to manage people, much less bigger than life characters that could change a game all by himself. So he punched out. NE had the good sense to pick him up. We did after his stint with the bungholes. So he walks away from the NE experience and people start asking him to comment. He comments. Wouldn't you?

I look for his videos because I like to watch him. He's understated in his delivery and dry in his comments. I hope he can make a career out of it. Beats hell out a lot of the other post fuh-bul nimnulls they trot up to the mike. I like Ryan too. He always seems like he's in pain.

What, from the guy who had to have the rules catered to him? The guy who had to be treated so delicately that it’s upset the balance of this team? If they trade him, I don’t give a **** what Brown has to say. His opinion/reality/side of the story will mean exactly dick.

What an arrogant puke Tomlin is to have **** on his likely final season. I'm still pissed about it. I wonder how he's going to disrespect everything that Ben has meant to this team when he retires. I don't doubt one bit that he'll show his spite for another Cowher retiree. Good job douchebag.

It's not Brown's fault Tomlin lacked a spine and catered to him. It's part of the problem. I want to trade Brown NOW for value if we can get it. I'll define value as a top 8 pick, or a mid 1st and 3rd. Once Brown is traded, I don't care about him, but what he has to say might be the truth, and any illumination on Tomlin's foolery inches him closer to being fired.
