I was NEVER going to start a Tomlin thread, but..

Tomlin is lucky because of the teams he's played. He's played 7 games against new HCs and their staffs. He's played against a lot of rookie and backup QBs. He's played 3 games against winless teams. The Steelers have had talent for years. I've said since Ben went down that this schedule wasn't going to kill them. After they got through the few tough games they had there was no one left but a bunch of new coaches and young QBs.

Look at the Bills. Rookie coach with a rookie QB.
They are 9-3 with a better offense and higher ranked defense. But they've played a crap schedule as well. I'm not sure they've beat a winning team outside of the Titans.

Tomlin's done a decent job but the bar is high. He has a defense filled with #1 draft picks and traded for someone else's #1 draft pick. They should make the playoffs. The Jets are horrible. The Bills can't score. And the rats will probably be resting their starters by then.

Sean McDermott has been with the Bills since 2017. This is Josh Allen's 2nd season.

Can I add the idiocy of the hitch pass which allowed Arizona to have an extra 40 seconds. For the SECOND WEEK IN A ROW that happened. As I've always believed Tomlin is a good guy and the players play hard. But that is dumb as rocks **** there.

PS. I dont give a **** if they had the perfect set up for that fake. You punt there. No matter what. They were on the edge of done. And your offense isn't great. You let your defense hunt.

Funny how when we lost to teams like the Patriots, Ravens, Seahawks, and 49ers (albeit by close scores), no one said “but these were the leagues elite teams.” But when we put together an impressive run against other teams (of comparable talent to ours) folks want to qualify the wins as just being against easy competition. Sounds like a double standard to me.

I absolutely hated that call. It sucked. They definitely had the look to run and it may have worked if communicated correctly but I'd definitely just punt and trust the defense in that situation

The miscommunication on the punt is on Tomlin. The defensive miscommunication appears to have been ironed out. But we saw it here on special team. It was a dumb call. It was too risky to call right there. Those type of things are what sours me on Tomlin.

You’re absolutely right. Ultimately this call is on him. Which is why he took the blame in the presser. You do realize though that if you’re going to take that approach you have to also give him credit for everything that goes right. At 8-5, much has gone right this year. Or do you just cherry pick what doesn’t work?

Seahawks beat Steelers albeit an over turned non PI call

Rams destroy Seahawks twice

Steelers beat Rams

Moral of story... there is none. You just play your schedule.

Pats 3 losses are to the 3 other current division leaders (Chiefs, Ravens, Texans). So what... the narrative isn't going to change. So they are lucky???

Really admirable job by both Tomlin and Colbert. Bringing in Steven Nelson & trading for Minkah has done wonders for the secondary.

And let's not forget Coach Darryl Drake - may he rest in peace - who banged the table for Diontae Johnson in the draft.

Not many teams - if any - can overcome this amount of adversity in a single season. The Steelers should make us all proud for standing tall, staying together, and playing winning football regardless the circumstances.

Tomlin's usual mantra of 'next man up' has morphed into the idea that he doesn't have 'starters' and 'reserves' on the roster, but 'starters' and 'starters-in-waiting.' It is clear the players have bought into that 100%. Awesome to see and kudos to Coach Tomlin for keeping the Steelers legacy alive and kicking in 2019 and beyond.

Of course, these were necessary moves since their draft picks (Burns and Davis) were busts.

The most important thing to come out of the game yesterday and no one mentioned it...Tomlins record of not ever having a losing season remains intact!

This is like winning the Super Bowl every year!!!

I'll give him his due, smartest thing he EVER did was bench red nose and start Duck!!

Yea verily

If he REALLY wants to be smart, tell Fichtner to open the damn playbook. I think everyone agrees that Hodges is better than Rudolph, Hodges has proven that, and I think he has earned a shot without handcuffs. No sense living in your fears, so to speak, obviously.

Burns, yes. Davis? Would hardly call him a bust. Solid starter. Him going on IR necessitated the trade for Minkha. The D needed a like player or better. They got the better, with the trade.

This year, with all of the injuries, starting 1-4, and on our 4th QB, is by far his most impressive non-losing season.

Tomlin was very fortunate with that bone headed call for a fake punt. Didn’t we try that in NO last year and got the same results? Didn’t make it!
He’s no coach of the year. To me that has to go to John Harbaugh who has done an amazing job with the Ravens especially LJ.

He isn't coach of the year because there is football to be played. Not because of a bone headed call. Get the team into the playoffs and I will agree with those who think he deserves the award. I tell you it is like a tug a war between the Tommy tom lovers and haters. But both sides have to realize there is some good and bad. Which is usually his label. Good enough to win bad enough not to yield significant results. This year a significant result would be to make the playoffs. As the start of the season was a pile of ****, O has struggled all year, and the D has played Steel curtain-ish.Right now? It is a good coaching performance. A great coaching performance is pending the final stretch. The team is heading into the right direction but a much stiffer challenge awaits Sunday. I don't think that beginning of the game handcuff offensive approach will work this week. Plus I am hoping for Juju's return in this one. In general I have never cared for premature awards. Before the postseason. Regardless if it is NFL MVP etc. Finish the regular season then label.

He gets this football team into the playoffs then yes he should be considered, but as you say there is much football to be played.
Beat the Bills and an improving Jets team on the road gets us in at maybe the fifth seed, then I agree, he should be considered. These next two games won’t be cakewalks and he has to be careful not to be careless and please the play calling to start the games must improve.

Harbaugh is the coach of the year, they lost a ton of talent on defense, and here they are, best team in the NFL.

Why the **** were we throwing the ball on that final drive, Arizona had one timeout left, we are in FG range, and we try to throw it on 2nd down, incomplete and stop the clock for them. It's not like we were on the verge of FG range and needed yards, we were at the 15. Run the ball, force Arizona to use that timeout, then run on 3rd, and kill as much clock before the FG, you would've left Arizona under 1 min to play when they got the ball, instead they had 1:44.

It’s been reported by 3 publishing sites that the call is a default and it was called off on the sideline. Everyone except Berry got the message. Tomlin is going to take the fall, like any coach would so as to keep the player from being skewered by the media. Question I have is threefold. Why didn’t Dangerfield make sure Berry got the call off. That’s the upback’s primary responsibility next to protecting the punter. Second, why no personal foul on the helmet to face on Berry? Third, why hasn’t Coach piped in clamoring for Berry’s job and a trade of our 2021 first round to Seattle for Dickson?

Whether we agree with it or not, Tomlin will win coach of the year, as the media has already crowned him, and it is the writers who vote for the award.

Regarding the fake punt, that is 100% on Tomlin. Given the game situation, the option of the fake should have been aborted before the punt unit even took the field, eliminating the chance of a miscommunication.

Tomlin was asleep at the wheel there.

Luckily, it did not cost them the game, but it could have, as it made a game the Steelers were in control of competitive again

Not that I care about the accolades - but, Coach Tomlin has DONE MORE with what he has and the challenges he has had to face this season - all of which have been very well documented

The only injury worth mentioning is Ben. But most teams don't have a Ben to start with. Brady is on the down side of his career as well. Most teams have had a ton of injuries this year. Steeler fans don't know much about other teams or care. Which is fine but understand that most teams have lots of them as well. Steeler fans are spoiled because they've been healthy for years... still didn't win anything but healthy.
