okay the fake punt was idiotic. from the last reports though it sounds like it was put in to fake the punt unless it was called off...so yeah, Berry ****** up but Tomlin should have made it clear it wasn't on in that situation

Tomlin catches a lot of **** win or lose here, but to me it says a lot that when TJ intercepted the ball in the end zone, the first guy he celebrates with on the sideline is Tomlin

going from 0-3 to 8-5 says volumes about how the team feels about him. A lot of teams would have quit on the coaching staff, especially when their #1 QB goes down and then their #1 RB and WR missing multiple games, but these guys ball out each and every week

as I said in another thread. Tomlin is not a great coach in a lot of areas, but ALL coaches suck at times in time management, play calling, situational awareness, challenges, but as Steeler fans we are hyper focused on our guy.

What do you think he said to TJ or was it a kiss?

TJ went over there and straight tried to give Tomlin a smooch. Reminded of Porter & Cowher.

I've mentioned this in other threads. Former players, now talking heads, have revealed a lot of respect and admiration for Tomlin. Deangelo Williams, Ryan Clark, Ike Taylor to name a few that have bits airing out those moments with Tomlin in the game, practice, or locker room.

Every coach has their faults, but Tomlin clearly is a great coach and leader for this franchise.

Not sure what more he could have done to “make it
clear that it wasn’t on.” Maybe run out on the field? Admirable that he “took credit” for the call, even though we now know it wasn’t on him. I agree though, he’s done quite (albeit not perfect) job this year.

On that punt, several special teams players were pointing downfield just before the snap. I am not sure what that was all about. Did the announcers say anything about that?

At the moment there is only one head coach who will go to the Hall of Fame and he's a cheating *******. I looked it up, in the 1970's there were TEN current or future Hall of Fame head coaches at one time or another in that decade so every week there were at least seven HOF'ers on the sideline.

Shades is a top five head coach but not because he's great, more because every other coach except one is no better and most are worse.

Tomlin is a top ten coach in the league... maybe top 5... nfl coaching sucks... Tomlin sucks at a bunch of things but he is also pretty good by sucky nfl standards...

Give him a great staff and hed be ok... i’d still trade him to Washington in a heartbeat for a couple of first rounders.
This year might be a 2000 type year for Tomlin, where cowher almost got his team into the playoffs off a really good rebuilt defense, then used it as a building block to the great 01 season, or it could be a 1989 type year where noll probably had his best coaching performance but then was forced to make staff changes two years later and retired instead....
he probably is closer to the end than people suspect...

I was at the game and commented to one of the few Cardinal fans there how stupid it was for the Cards to go for it on 4th down rather than kick the field goal, down by 10.

Then Berry does his thing and I'm asked just who is stupid. Must have been contagious. Good thing they pulled it out.

The Steelers are (finally) over-achieving and that is the ultimate measure in evaluating a coach. That being said, he flirted with disaster today and I’m not sure that has dawned on him.

That conversation was taking place all over the stadium. lol

I had both of those conversations too. The additional information provided context to our call, but it sure did seem like a brain fart at the time.

I thought of Kordell and Cowher.

BUT let's NOT lose focus here. Tomlin is displaying a hell of a coaching job. His situational fake punt type call are what contributes so heavily to most here being cautious. I want him to succeed as that contributes to my STEELERS succeeding.

Easily coach of the year.

Hold on nut-sack, your boy is definitely in that conversation too. (j/k on the nut-sack and glad to see yaz here)

It was a really cool moment, maybe the best of the season because it was so authentic. This locker room is so much better this year and you have a bunch of guys playing for each other out there. Amazing how much more likable this team this team became after one transaction.

Dejan from DKSports commented he asked Tomlin about the called faked punt. He said Tomlin called for it. Berry said it was called because the look AZ showed set up perfect for it, but there was a breakdown in communication up front because the blockers didn’t block, they went straight upfield.

... it was fourth and 8 with under ten minutes left in a game they were up by 10.... the strategic faux pas in EVER calling for that is absurd... even if they had showed a three man front it would not have excused it...

The D was playing well enough and you really cannot afford to give up the short field with that kind of lead....
It just was bluster because they caught us with a fake earlier.... when someone trick plays us we have to trick play them back....

Tomlin is lucky because of the teams he's played. He's played 7 games against new HCs and their staffs. He's played against a lot of rookie and backup QBs. He's played 3 games against winless teams. The Steelers have had talent for years. I've said since Ben went down that this schedule wasn't going to kill them. After they got through the few tough games they had there was no one left but a bunch of new coaches and young QBs.

Look at the Bills. Rookie coach with a rookie QB. They are 9-3 with a better offense and higher ranked defense. But they've played a crap schedule as well. I'm not sure they've beat a winning team outside of the Titans.

Tomlin's done a decent job but the bar is high. He has a defense filled with #1 draft picks and traded for someone else's #1 draft pick. They should make the playoffs. The Jets are horrible. The Bills can't score. And the rats will probably be resting their starters by then.
