Film room on Demarcus Ayers first game

http://www.Invalid Link - Check SN ...room-nothing-can-block-demarcus-ayers-energy/

We continue our film session on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ rookie draft class with the NFL debut of seventh-round wide receiver Demarcus Ayers, who was recently promoted from the practice squad but saw his game action on Sunday against the Ravens. It was a game of firsts, and mostly good.

The young man got a decent amount of playing time—even seeing a couple snaps from packages that included only two wide receivers—and though he only had two targets in the game, he found ways to contribute as a blocker.

Ayers checked in for the first time early, on the third play of the game. The first thing he did? Target safety Eric Weddle. Lined up on the left on the outside, he saw Weddle charge in and drove a shoulder to him to seal him inside on a run that was bouncing out to the perimeter.

what I enjoyed most was his excitement on the field. Watch him after Bell's rushing TD and even when he drew the PI call...he is fired up on the field...

Antonio Brown won’t be playing in the regular-season finale against the Browns, but plenty of his young understudies will be. One of them played in his first NFL game last week against the Ravens and helped the Steelers win the division title.

Rookie seventh-round pick Demarcus Ayers, who was signed to the 53-man roster two weeks ago, will get plenty of reps alongside fellow first-year players Cobi Hamilton and Eli Rogers and has a chance to build off his solid debut.

“D.A. has worked his tail off,” offensive coordinator Todd Haley said. “We’ve seen a great transformation in him.”

After an ankle injury set him back during training camp, Ayers has gradually earned the trust of his coaches and teammates through his work as a member of the practice squad. His ankle was not completely healthy until the middle of October, when he impressed by mimicking Jarvis Landry of Miami and Julian Edelman of New England in back-to-back weeks on the scout-team offense.

Early this month, the coaches began giving him a few reps here and there with the first-team offense. When he finally got a chance to play against the Ravens he drew a 35-yard pass interference penalty to set up one fourth quarter touchdown drive and later made his first career reception on the final drive that was capped by Brown’s touchdown with nine seconds remaining.

“The turning point was a couple of weeks before I got activated,” Ayers said. “The last two or three weeks it’s been clicking and I got a feel for the offense. The guys are trusting. They believe in me.”

There is a good chance Ayers can play 40-50 snaps against the Browns, something Haley is looking forward to seeing. Ayers and all of his young receivers can use all the extra work they can get before the playoffs arrive next weekend.

“It’ll be a great chance,” Ayers said. “My whole mindset has been I don’t care if I get five reps on special teams or five run plays and I go block. I wanted to show them what I could do. I just wanted to be part of the 53-man roster and help in any form or fashion when I could.

“I’m just excited that I was able to have an impact. My teammates took notice and trusted me. Now I’m just going to do whatever I can to help us win a Super Bowl.”

hopefully he will continue to shine...it is needed....

Big day tomorrow for some youngins. I like Ayers, Eli and Cobi. All have a lot of promise and all are different animals. Ayers seems like an all-around type player. Eli is AB jr and murders in the slot. Cobi is a big body with good hands and seems comfortable in traffic across the middle.

Now if Landry can put a good game together Sunday might be a fun game.

I'm looking forward to seeing what all of the young guys bring tomorrow. I'd hope a nice fat win!

it is amazing how accurate Madden is....Landry Jones throws 5 picks one on what should have been a go ahead TD pass in the final minute. Coates drops multiple passes but Ayers goes for 11 receptions for 269 yards and 1 TD

Lol...funny stuff, Coolie.

Lol...funny stuff, Coolie.

Hamilton was solid...caught several tough passes, and Heyward-Bey dropped a wide open TD pass.....

Steelers D would stuff the stains for two plays and give up a long pass for the first down on 3rd down....

sounds accurate to me

Ayers made the best of the opertunities that he got. A Seal block for a TD, nice 9yard reception and the "STIFF" arm, also the PI call. NICE young play. Now I'm hoping we get to see some of that return game of his tomorrow. Rooting for him Inspires Ayers.

Salute the nation

Love the energy and fire Ayers brings to the field. Just to nit pick a little bit.. on the out route, he kind of caught that with his chest more so than his hands. :)

No but I really do think this kid will be a nice addition to the WR core.

I know us a video game but if you tried to trade Landry, do the Browns offer a 3rd round pick?

just win............
