I have to say, I actually enjoyed Romo's commentary during the game

I have been pleasantly surprised as well by his commentary.

What I find most interesting is that he explains things from the perspective of a coaching staffs approach to offense.

Seems to do it better than the rest. However, I wonder if that goes away as he gets older and doesn't know the personnel as well.

Actually wonder if he doesn't get a phone call from Wisconsin tomorrow morning.

I'm pretty sure Haley and Tomlin were tuning in to the broadcast to figure out how to call the offense.

"Pssst, Romo says we should run when they use that nickel-style formation."

"Uh. Ok. What the hell. See what happens."

"Hey, um. Romo is saying they're gonna counter with a larger 3-man front to slow down the run and that we're gonna pass to take advantage."

"Well, are we?"

"Oh, uh. Ya. Of course."

Romo has been very good. He's everything I expect from a former player from a broadcast booth since he explains things that are happening on the field.

Agree except for his frequent use of the cliche' : after a disastrous play "that is not what the Chiefs wanted at this time" oh really?

I like him in the booth as well. I like when he knows he blows something he just comes right out and says it. Like when he said Bell did a great job picking up a blitz and then the replay showed Bell run right past the guy, he laughed and said, "Nope I guess he didn't". Most announcers just ignore it and move on hoping nobody will notice their goof.

yeah that would mean that Tomlin could change a gameplan based on info from a previous play. unheard of

He is doing well, I would compare him to a Chris Collinsworth.

Yup, it was a pleasant surprise, really. Good insight into the perspective of coaches and QB. And with pretty recent infos as well, since he didn´t retire ages ago like some of the other old farts. Down to earth, precise, sometimes even funny. Might become my favorite announcer.

Ah, and f*ck Collinsworth.

Yeah Romo has been pretty good this year. He was on a hot streak a few weeks back calling out plays before they happened. I noticed he actually stumbled a bit last night, including praising Gilbert for his play when he had been off the field for a good 15-20 minutes replaced by Hubbard. Then a few minutes later called out Bell for a 'great block' in pass pro, then cued the tape which showed Bell didn't block at all but went out for a pass. Minor stuff I know, but I was paying attention given all the hype surrounding his transcendental commentary skills. ;) Overall he's a fine tv guy, better than most.

I noticed that too - and he kept his talk focused about The Game On the Field - not a bunch of jibber jabber about their high school/college coaches wives/kids/dogs filler crap.

I loved that too, he wasn't above admitting he was wrong, and he did it in a very funny manner. I really like Romo in the booth. He knows his stuff, and he does a great job of explaining it. You don't hear him fumbling over his words. I know this sounds crazy, but a mere 6 games into his booth career, he may already by the best doing it right now. I hope he calls more Steeler games. He's night and day from dipshit Simms.

Yes, Romo is good and I like Aikman as well. I don't really have a problem with Collinsworth either. Simms is just a complete dipshit.

Eventually he will get the blowout game where all that stuff comes out.

He knows his stuff. A smart guy. You have to wonder why he made so many mistakes as a player though...he's not a dolt.

Romo is solid doing color commentary. Really glad they kicked Simms to the curb. The networks seemingly hang onto some of these people who get stale to hear or aren't any good to begin with. Getting rid of Collinsworth would be another great move for NBC.
