I dont even wanna know what Kenny will cost to sign.

It will cost what it costs

The owners collude and set the pay scale, nothing to see here

It would be a great “problem” to have if after 4-5 years of service the Steelers feel KP is worth awarding another contract

i think it'll be a linear function of how many concussions Pickett receives from Matt Canada.

sort of a good-news is bad-news situation.
Yeah Canada sucks but he didn’t tell lil Kenny to run outside the pocket leaving his protection and then to slam his head into the ground…his play calls suck and I can’t stand him but pretty sure even moron Canada didn’t draw that up

KP receives concussions from the ground, poor helmet choice, leaving protection of the pocket and not knowing how to fall…and he may be a little soft skulled/fragile too..all Kenny issues

He’ll have a very short career of he can’t figure out some of HIS issues

Gotta keep the qb position a rookie contract. Always have a replacement ready, also on rookie contract, but about 2 to 3 years delayed. But nobody does that.

Of course this is degrading into a bash Kenny thread

Thats just foolish… the reason QBs cost so much is that it is a pass centric league now and even just regular good qbs are extremely rare…

Look at the Browns search for a qb that’s going on 3 decades now… the only trick is not overvaluing a non game changer at qb… if you got a great one you pony up… if you don’t, don’t break the bank for him

Though always having a developmental qb is a good plan… just in case

espn radio this morning. Were saying its about the gaurenteed money contract. The owners dont want them and to break protocol will mess everything up.
So baltimore is betting that the other owners wont do this as well.

Cleveland could have had Joe Montana as QB and it wouldn't have helped. They have a lot more problems than just that position. Blaming the QB is just low hanging fruit.

Thing is there's only a handful of great ones out there and a lot of not so greats making way too much money. Kirk Cousins for instance. And in what world should Ryan Tannehill have been the highest paid QB last season.

If we are worrying how much we have to pay Kenny then that is probably a good thing. I think Balt will use the non exclusive tag which is about 30mil. It would be interesting to see what other teams value jackson at. The watson deal was really a team killing deal. The money is one thing, but all the draft capital they gave up was just absurd. I can't picture other teams following suit with those kind of deals

I was just going to write that before reading your post. That's exactly what I do! I would never pay a QB that kind of coin! (or anyone else for that matter)

The problem is EXACTLY what you are saying: we don't even know what Kenny is yet. He threw a few good passes that were reminiscent of Ben throwing while scrambling and the whole Jockocracy on the sports media outlets were saying he's the guy in Pittsburgh. The sports media suffer from the same problem cable tv when CNN was born had/has: gotta feed that beast 24/7. The internet has only made it worse (specifically you tube) with everyone and his dog an expert now just because they started a Steelers themed channel.

I called the season at 8-9 on social media during training camp and I was called crazy....they were going to "make it to the AFCC game" ..... And they believed that because all these younger fans(for the most part younger) are egged on by " Fake Sports News." So, we don't know what Kenny is yet. I hope he is the second coming of Joe Montana, but we have to reserve judgement for now. To quote a famous press conference coach " We need a bigger body of work from him."
While I agree that we don’t know exactly how good Pickett will be, if any better than last season, delusion about sports team’s potential existed well before modern sports media and the internet. It’s why they call it fanaticism.

The only people getting the short end of the deal with these crazy QB contracts....are US...the fan.
The NFL long term business model is obvious.....pay per view for every game....every week of the season.

QB contracts in itself doesn't have as much effect as you're saying. There's a salary cap that most teams spend close to. It's the other players on the roster it effects. There's not as much left for them.

Where do expect the cap to go to?

I say.....very, very high.

In fact, so high I'm concerned about the Rooney's being able to stay "cash" competitive long term..

The cap is derived mainly from TV money that's split evenly.

Streaming services won't take over from networks until they become more mainstream. I'd say that's still a fair distance away.

I don’t know about that. My 20 year old son watches college and NFL football exclusively on streaming services.

I'd say it's still a relatively low percentage compared to networks, but I could be wrong.

Not bashing the guy. Definitely not.
Just commenting on the reality of the situation.
I would like nothing more than for him to set the league on fire in year 2, and of course end up getting a max second contract, fully guaranteed.
Kenny is a good dude, and a pleasant change from 7. I absolutely love 7. Cried tears of Joy watching him take the field for his last hurrah. (Thank you Najee for sending him out as a winner)
Obviously I am just a schmo observing from FAR outside the building, but I definitely feel like he dedicates himself far more than Ben at this stage of his career, and that's certainly a good thing. KP has proven to be the type of guy that is goes about preparing much better.

No Kennypaloozas and the like

Its a matter that only about 12 owners in the league can do it… you have to escrow that money up front… there aren’t that many ownership groups with 250 million in liquid assets to just haphazardly do that….especially since a portion of a lot of other contracts are also guaranteed and need to be set aside…

I think the real smart teams are gonna have to plan down the road for an open window with their QB and manage the cap around that so when the window is open they have the right people around. Hands up if that seems to be the Steelers model to you?

The cost will keep going up and its something we will have to deal with. While he is on his rookie deal we need to fortify the OL or we will be pissing into the wind.

Then you’re probably a bad fit for a gm as the teams hoisting Lombardis don’t seem to mind paying a good QB

50-60 million per year is just the share of the cap the most important position commands these days

It is what it is…and we don’t have to pay any QB bills so who really cares about the fake money anyways

C’mon you know the Steelers model
Weapons weapons weapons
