1st play of the game - Barkley rips off a 32-yard run

Giants stumble a bit. 3rd down, WR drops the ball and Ward blows him up. Then gets a flag for taunting.

Same old browns.
(lower case, of course)

Seems our defense is in mid season form also. Do they even know that there is a TE on the field to cover?

I love that the Browns fans got a first hand look of passing on Barkley. Dumb ******* decision.

I will say though, Mayfield looked excellent tonight. NFL.com has a video link to all of his throws. He shows poise, takes his time, makes his progressoins, and unloads the ball with touch and precision. When eh was pressured, he moved well in the pocket to extend the play. Looks like he might be the best Browns QB in 2 decades.

Mayfield might be the type of low ceiling high floor QB that you can win with. Even if he's a better version of Tyrod Taylor or roughly a Kirk Cousins, the Browns could be decent.

i thought mayfield was the most polished Qb in the draft. He didn't have all the measureables, but he had the IT factor. I wouldn't be surprised if the Browns won 5 games this year

Watched Hard Knocks last night (episode 1).

It was good. Highlights:

As much as I'm no Hue Jackson fan, I would give him condolences on losing a brother and mother in a 2-week period and still trying to do his job. I actually think he should have taken a few days off, but that's me.

Interesting dynamic at the coaches table when Todd Haley (and some others) questioned Jackson giving permission to some players to "sit out" due to minor injuries. Major toughness issues were brought up throughout the episode. Great speech by Jarvis Landry (who is really hard not to like based on this episode... that guy works HARD) questioning the heart of the WR room. You could see the Corey Coleman situation happen almost in real time. Both Haley and Landry questioned his practice intensity and work ethic in the first 30 minutes of the show.

Not sure Hue Jackson is running as tight a ship as his coaching staff wants at this point but Jackson is clearly thinking long-term and might be caught between his coaches and GM.

Mayfield might be a player but it's really unclear right now. He has a decent "football" personality but I'm not sure he and Hue Jackson are going to see eye-to-eye on everything. Also, everything to date is kind of "no hitting hard" and all quarterbacks have to work through the shear physicality of the game at this level.

Myles Garrett is a freak of nature. Great interaction after an interview from Willie McGinnest when the cameras were off and McGinnest was giving him pointers on hand placement and pass rush moves. Stuff like that you just don't get any other place than Hard Knocks.

I still don't like the front office dynamic. Owner-GM-Head Coach and think most of their systemic issues come from that group. They have some talented players, but they seem to get washed out with the problems in that building.

Mayfield has gotten nothing but bad press but last night he showed he has the tools. He looked at more than one receiver, he moved well in the pocket and made the throws. His stats were not indictive of how he played. You sure could see our old Offensive coordinator play calls.
