How?????

Weddle is at fault, IMO. He had the best positioning to stop Brown. He was a bit slow to react and then hit Brown too high. Mosley had the awkward task of trying to keep Brown from falling forward (to Mosely's right) as he was in front of Mosley who was running perpendicular to the end zone.

A Christmas gif for yinz ...

Judging by the speed of the play it would have been way to early to blow it dead. Refs usually wait a couple seconds before blowing the whistle.

Perhaps the ref missed the facemask because he was solely concentrating on whether or not the ball will cross plane. Just a guess.

Two great players beat two very good ones.

Sorry Stillright, I was actually referring to the sidejudge. he doesn't have good line of sight on the facemask until well into the play when AB is reaching the ball across the plane, and frankly I'm glad he was focused on THAT rather than the facemask.

OK, so, here are my questions about this play.

1) Shouldn't have AB driven the corner directly across from him deeper into the end zone (make it look like a fade) before breaking off the route?
2) Why in the hell did Ben throw the ball to AB short of the goal line with 14 seconds on the clock?

It all worked out good but I'm just curious what others think.

Rogers was lined up inside and ran to the corner of the end zone while AB cut underneath....Ben saw AB open and got him the ball probably assuming he would find a way to score....

Rogers route wasn't very good, it was obvious he wasn't getting the ball. I guess now that I look at it AB had to cut it ioff early because of Rogers route. In my mind then both routes have to be run 2 steps deeper. I don't know I'm always complaining when a WR runs a 6 yard route on 3rd and 7, to me this is the same thing, a tackle in the field of play is game over. Ben could have just thrown it away and play the next down. Hoping a 190 pound WR can beat two or three guys is a high risk chance.

You could tell by the answer Tomlin gave at his presser that AB was supposed to run his route across the goal line

I think if you look at the GIF if Roger's flashed to the corner and then went to the post it would have been an easy TD. It was a situation where you want to go to your guy but they knew it and we're prepared. If he hadn't flattened out and crossed the face of the defender it would have been knocked down if not picked.

That's why I think if both routes are 2 steps deeper the defenders have to drop as well, allowing AB to be on the goal line or in the EZ rather than on the 1 yard line. I'm not smart enough Xs and Os wise to really question it, logically though you would think in that situation the routes need to be in the EZ and not on the 1 yard line.

I would say it was a sight adjustment Pap. If he goes skinny and those guys hold their spot he has to throw over them. There is no angle to loft it. He flattened to cross their face. The corner by Roger's wasn't there. It was a limited opportunity. But he was going to have to power over.

Tomlin was asked this exact question Tuesday at his press conference, he just smirked and said he was supposed to score.
