How Rooney Hires a Head Coach

GHREAT read Cope and thanks for the find.

I don't know if Art Deuce shares that deep deep passion of His fathers. When Dan was growing up he was at the team facility all the time. Rubbing shoulders / talking football / living it to the fullest with all the players & team personal. That experience took him to a level few achieve yet alone capitalize on. I realize he was the owners kid and sure he got special attention ut that adds into the passion it created. Dan was a giant amongst the owners and for good reason.

Art Deuce didn't grow up that way. He was more the business man type guy. Sure he was around the team / business a lot but not like Dan. You can see it in different aspects of the franchise and decision making along the way. He is overly cautious and seems to be non-committal to some of the higher difficult choices that would come back to define him. Just my take and I don't know jack beans on internal musings within the organization. Art's a GREAT owner but in this fan's eye seems a little soft with the league on our STEELERS issues.

I for one am VERY glad of the Rooney's ownership and process of the way they do things overall. If I had a complaint it would be not aggressive enough when it comes to things directly effecting the Steelers weather in team or player discipline & rules changes.

Interesting observation Drink. Dan was involved with not only the team, but was a cog in Pete Rozzel’s modus operandi in getting the league coherent before, during and after the merger. Ironically Dan along with Modell and Mr. Hunt helped orchestrate how the AFC/NFC was laid out. Foregoing their NFL roots and putting them in the division with most of the AFL teams. Dan knew what was best for the league...something The Chief instilled in him.

Art2 was an attorney far longer than an owner or (now) president than Dan was at the time he took over. Dan was groomed since college to take over the franchise. Even after Art2 took over, Dan was Emeritus until passing. So the difference is I guess, Dan handled the club as a business but, also had a fantastic connection with the players, something he also got from The Chief. Art2 has the business part down just like Dan, but is more reserved....publicly. You will never see Art2 comment like Dan did with Al Davis. Lol.
