How many years have we not had any competent back up QBs?

Outside of Dallas and NE not too many teams have a legit #2, hell some still need a 1.

If we don't resign him after this year he will probably find a job rather quickly as a middle of the pack #2.

Wish we had a better #2, but we already spend a disproportionate amount on offense and QBs aren't cheap if they are a decent veteran. So sure we could could possibly get a backup option that is a tad better, but that's another $3-5M that won't be invested on the defensive side of the ball.

Shrewd mid-round draft picks are cheap. Yea, we tried that route, but Landry just sucks. Good idea, bad pick. Jones sucked at OK., and Skip Bayless (big OK fan) called it from the moment they drafted him. The whole notion that we can't add a better prospect at backup QB is just not true. Fourth rounders are cheap.

I don't know if you heard, but word was out for posters to try not to be dicks to each other.

I don't know that is being a "dick" to you but I will try to light'n it up for you....

**** your favorite QB and team****. Better? :)

Not many fourth or higher round QB draft picks are ever really that good. Chances are the next one we take you will probably ***** and complain that they suck...because the odds are he will. Just like almost all 4th round or higher drafted QB's.

Not true. I see many 1st time Qb's or backups better than Landry Jones.

We need to sign one in free agency or draft one.
.

Jones is easy to sack and has bad nerves that lead to interceptions.

One game that Landry Jones looses that say a Charlie Batch type wins could mean the difference in not Making the playoffs or s home playoff game. Worth 3-4 million.

Why are you placing whether we win or lose on Jones alone. We have an offense loading with talent. That in itself is funny. Let our coaches create the right game plan and we should win if the players execute it to perfection. It is simply that easy. I for one will enjoy watching them win this game. It is why they play the game. Oh by the way....**** your Tommyboy and the PATS****!!!!!!!

Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha........ Great joke. Dumblin creating the right game plan..... It is almost as saying Dumbling out-coaching Bellicheat.

Keep them coming. We all need to lighten up in difficult times like this. :loco:

Sorry, I don't buy this. Dak Prescott is making, what?

So you think Dak Prescotts just show up at the back door on a regular basis. he was a 4th rounder just like Landry Jones. In fact LJ was picked about 20 picks ahead of DP. It's not like you can say the Steelers aren't trying, they just weren't as good at it.

The list of "many" backup QBs better than Landry with stats to support said assertion Coach?

Basically we haven't had a competent backup QB since Charlie Batch was last active around 2012 or so.
I don't count Gradkowski since he was only healthy for one season and played about three snaps.

Please don't rub salt in my wound. I know the Steelers ****** up when they took Landry and that Dak is already 1000% better. I am well aware of this; apparently the Steelers are not, because after 3 camps and pre-seasons, and two full seasons, he has never got any better and he is just terrible. The smart thing to do would be to dump him and take another shot at drafting one. Apparently they refuse to admit past mistakes.

Apparently they had a rookie QB cheaply finish his 4 years here. Looks like they will draft one next year and let Jones walk. Mettenberger will be our Vet returning backup.

No team will pay more than they have to for a back up. I think next year in camp will be interesting with Mettenberger here and if they draft a QB early in the draft.

What...no LJ extension?

Let me try to make this point: No I DON'T think Dak Prescotts just show up at the back door which is why you have to be diligent about looking for one if you need one and NOT just point at Landry Jones, shrug your shoulders and say, "good enough" because a LJ is NOT good enough, so you keep searching. Hoody never just says "good enough" - he constantly tries to improve his roster. Does every move that he makes work? Not even close, which is why he KEEPS making moves in an attempt to correct the moves that don't work out. He tried Chad Johnson. It didn't work out and he sent him packing. The point isn't that LJ was a fourth rounder, as was Dak; the point is LJ should be a KNOWN subpar QB and by this time, take a shot on another QB who COULD have an upside. We know LJ, and his upside in nearly non-existent.

Can he ever make a few nice throws? He did so today. But when it's crunch time, does he answer the bell? Nearly ever. In clutch time today, he looked completely inept.

My bigger concern is finding Bens replacement.

Batch was decent but was too old the last few years. Again, zero guys put in the position with any up side. Why do they refuse to even TRY to develop young talent at QB? Leftwich was mostly terrible, plus with his long wind up, it was a given he would take vicious shots and get killed. LJ may have been considered "young talent to develop and 1st and 2nd years, but now he is just a known ****** QB who is not getting any better. Here are QBs that at least have a _chance_ at developing into good QBs some day. We NEVER have anyone on the roster who even offers HOPE of developing. And not only is it great to have a QB who COULD be good some day, it also gives teams huge trade values for high picks if they choose to go that direction and then pick up another prospect to do the same thing.

Bryce Petty, Christian Hackenberg, Ryan Mallett, Chase Daniel, Matt Moore, Chad Henne (yes, he is better than Jones), Colt McCoy, Mike Glennon, Cardale Jones (Yes raw but with upside), Dak Prescott (10x better than LJ and he's a rookie), Kellen Clemens, A.J. McCarron, Luke McCown, Drew Stanton, Derek Anderson (not young, but a lot better than LJ), Jimmy Garoppolo.

Nice list of names. Now name the one that replaced a starter and led his team into the playoffs. The real cost of a backup is who can't you afford to sign due to cap space vs. what do you get. None of that group replacing Ben.

Landry looked ok. Not as bad as I thought, although after that pick in the end zone..

Dak Prescott has faced one defense that was in the top half of the league before yesterday/ They lost that game.
