How many high picks on D wasted?

The problem isn’t the guys we have drafted necessarily but the guys we have signed as free agents that have failed to be worth what we have paid them. Of course you can’t hit a homerun with every pick and especially where we have drafted.

Tomlin absolutely loved that guy. For some reason.

Worilds duped him. Dude singed a franchise tag for one year ( He wasn't close to worth it ) then retired.

I remember that pick, I wanted Sean Lee. Worilds wasn't decent, nothing beyond that.

Peterson for Tuitt and our 3rd round pick? I think this is workable with out cap situation.

We are thinner at Dline than we are CB and you want to exacerbate that? Did you pay attention to our pass rush when either Tuitt or Heyward was injured the past few years? It was basically non existent with either one out of the lineup.

Nitsuj,

Did you see Tyson Alualu play when Tuitt was out? There wasn't a huge drop off.

Simply sated, on this team would you rather have Peterson or Tuitt?

Which is why they recognize the value of a proven vet. We need Peterson

Totally agree. For me, I would easily give up a #1 LOW ROUND (#25-32) pick any day of the week in exchange for a PROVEN vet (under 30). With the vet, you KNOW what you have. With the draft pick, you never know (see list of 1st round busts for us or any team).

I get the front office weighing the higher cost of the vet, versus the low cost of the rookie and rights for 4 years, but "you play to win the game".

So now Alualu is a plug and play replacement for Tuitt? The same Alualu that is 31 years old has 1 solo tackle this season? Not buying it.

And last season Alualu started for Tuitt against the Bears, Lions, Bengals and Vikings. The Bears ran all over us for 220 yards and 2 TDs and beat us for one of their 5 wins last season. The Lions put up 420 yards passing and we barely hung on to win that one. Not exactly glowing performances from our D with Alualu starting and Tuitt out...and those games were WITH Shazier.

To answer your question, straight up I would rather have Peterson but having to give up a high draft pick plus Tuitt makes it a wash in my book. Tuitt is also 3 years younger and is just now entering his prime while Peterson is approaching 30. I think by doing a trade like that, you address one weakness and create another.

I don't think many expect a homerun with every pick, but how about in the FIRST round, you draft a player who at least is a decent starter at his position? Not Hall of Fame, not perennial pro bowler, just a legit starter who deserves to be starting? They didn't do so with J. Jones, Burns or Dupree. (Dupree isn't the abject failure that JJ and Burnt are, but he's nowhere near as good as a 1st rounder should be.)
