I was at the game on Sunday and, as usual, we owned the stadium by the end. Does anyone remember what was announced about Villanueva leaving the game? I remember seeing him down and then he was on the bench during one of the drives. I recorded the game as well but can't find out anything from the recording. Anyone know when it happened?

He came back in after a series, I think he's fine. They checked him for a concussion.

Said on twitter he wasn't feeling well. Maybe he played sick? Gonna guess Beachum has seen his last days as a Steeler. Villanueva is going to keep that spot.

He looks like the real deal at LT. Of course it's a big test coming this week --- Broncos can really rush the passer. It's a huge boon to think that we have our LT of the future without having to pay market rate or use a high draft pick.

I would still draft one in the 3-4 round range, but we definitely need to go get us a CB and more help at S.

Not me. Next year we have AV, Gilbert and Mike Adams (swing tackle) all back. Next year our draft picks look like this: 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 7, 7. We lost rounds 5 and 6 in trades (Boykin, Scobee) and picked up a 7 for Brad Wing plus a 7th round comp pick for losing Brice McCain. I wouldn't spend one of our top 4 picks on an OT.

Just like last year, I think we still need a top notch corner in the first. Let's hope someone is around when we pick and that the guys we drafted this year are healthy next year.

Here's what I like about the drafting for next year. We kept the top 4 spots which gives us the best chance of getting talent. The 3 7th rounders can be used on players that fell due to size or measurables, but still have talent before they hit the market as UFA Undrafted Rookies.

We still have Senquez Golson who sat out his rookie year...so that's like having a top pick at CB.....we have Cockrell and Boykins......I think we might need to go DT/NT if theres talent there in the 1st round, then S in the 2nd round and possibly LB in the 3rd and KR in the 4th.................

We have Grant back on the roster (4th rnd CB this years draft). The only way id go CB first pick is if theres a cant miss prospect. I want more talent on the D-Line and Safety position.

At this point:

If Tre'Davious White is there in the 1st, I, probably, take him. Not sure what to do if not.

If Heath retires this year, I, probably, take Hunter Henry in the 2nd, but not sure he lasts that long.

Boykin is a free agent at the end of the season and unlikely to be back. Blake is a free agent as well (yeah!). At CB next year, we will have Gay (he is a free agent but likely to stay), Golson, Cockrell and Doran Grant. We absolutely need another outside CB. It's our biggest need. Golson is a slot guy, but the coaches preference is to put Gay in the slot in the nickel (which is why Boykin has seen so few snaps).

My other concern is that McLendon is a free agent and there will be lots of teams (Patriots, Cardinals) after him. And it's tough to justify paying him a ton of money because he's only on the field in our base 3-4. But smart GMs know he is damn good at what he does (even though dumb Steeler fans do not)...

Let blake and Boykin walk unless Boykin signs a friendly deal with a promise hell get playing time.

Resign McClendon. ...put Golson at slot...draft a CB in the first round. So we got Golson, gay, 1st round CB, and Boykin if he resigned plus Durant.

I'm not sure the Steelers are committed to only playing Golson inside only I think if 'he can tackle they will play him outside too. The Steelers continue to play Blake because of his willingness to tackle in the run game IMO. Yes he misses but his willingness to put his nose in there is probably while he is still getting the nod over Boykin. Especially in base formations. If Golson shows a willingness to tackle and be physical in the run game IE take on blocks set the edge when needed make tackles then they will view him as an outside guy. The Steelers ask their DBs to do this which is why Blake still gets the nod over Boykin.

I agree, Golson is not necessarily slot-only, but he is small for an outside CB and it's not a great sign that he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in mini-camp. We can't go into next season with just Gay, Cockrell, Golson & Grant at CB.

If the value is there at CB or Safety we have to look into it.

We have a few holes to fill and I am curious to see who gets contracts offered next year. I would like to have McLendon back but he likely gets one last payday and goes elsewhere. I have a feeling we re-sign Blake but not for big money and same with Will Gay. I think we should let Golden start at safety and use a high pick on a CB which would give us Gay, Blake, and Golson with a rookie fighting for time.

We only have Mitchell and golden at So, you better get a high pick there cause if any of those get hurt the season is over unless you are counting on one more year of will Allen playing at a decent level for a long stretch.
Also golden has been good but you could try to improve the position.

The same goes for CB, both are priorities

Not that this is a scientific way to analyze it, but I noticed Ben and Big V chatting after the game. It appears they are boys. Not saying Beachum isn't as well, but it looks like Big V is in the club now.

Beachum coming off ACL surgery....contract is up. I'd love to have him come back for depth and maybe play at LG, if he comes in at a reasonable price....but if not, Big V is the choice. He has an enormous ceiling and is already
pretty good.

Blake has to go, end of story.

I like Blake as a depth player, but if he doesn't go, there will be too much temptation to continue to give him a significant role for the defense.

Blake is terrible. I agree he has to go.

He's army strong. No worries about him
