How Good is James Conner–really?

It's been FOUR GAMES. Conner has played against the #1 overall defense, the #3 overall defense, and the #8 overall defense in terms of yards allowed.

Three games against some of the best defenses in the NFL. The line was not great. Conner was not great. He played a poor defense and put up 125 yards and a TD.

So maybe he is not as bad as you state, and in the course of 16 games, against all types of defenses, he does pretty well.
So far he has sucked...He doesn't suck, but his stats suck.

I got sucked into this

Conner does not suck. He is a good Steeler.

Conner is a damn fine RB. Watch him pass protect or catch passes out of the backfield and you'll see he's a well-rounded guy. Needs to work on ball security though. Jaylen Samuels though, if they can continue to work both of these guys into the offense with different wrinkles, look out.

But seriously, we NEED MORE than 3.2 yards per carry guys....I mean really?

Le'Veon Bell is averaging 2.9 yards per carry, do you think he's a bad running back?

Better than average but not great. Still to be determined

Conner's problem right now is the OL isn't opening up anything for him. With good blocking he is fine. His problem is fumbling. I keep thinking back to Cleveland last year (cost us a W), Denver last year (contributed greatly to a L), and this year (Sea? or SF?), (cost us a W). Hold on to the ******* ball. I'd rather you go down and NOT get those extra 2 yards than cough it up.

As I said on his last year playing for the Steelers he’s over rated!

Perhaps he’s not as bad as the 2.9 yards per carry suggest but his pro bowl days are long gone.

Thank goodness he was too dumb to sign the offer the Steelers gave him.

Not missing bell or Brown at all. Now there just a source of entertainment.

Conner is just fine. Our O line has been horrendous in run blocking. We finally had 2 decent runs in this past game and then they got cocky on 3rd and 3 and tried to run it. We lost 2 or 3 yards because there were 5 white shirts waiting for Conner when he got the hand off. It doesn't matter who we have running right now because the line sucks. We had to use the wildcat to try and get some room to run.

With that said, I do like Samuels back there as well. If Conner fumbles another one, I have a feeling he won''t be the starter for a while.

I like Conner. He's a very good RB.

Let's add Vannett to the conversation/observation...

Now that we have a 'blocking TE' the running game can and will get better. [Hurry up back, Rosie!!!]

Again, Vannett knows how to get open in the seams and ILB's will have to account for him---subsequently, that opens holes in the defense and, guess what, running lanes!!!

The Raven's defense isn't all that great and their team isn't built to 'play from behind' (get your mind out the gutter, DIC and Indy).

Here's to Conner breaking 100 on the ground this week!!!

I had not seen anything to suggest he will be out. I know he had the ankle on Monday and DNP yesterday. I think the injury report gets updated at 4 or 5, but even if he is DNP, the big one will be tomorrow. If he is DNP on Friday his unlikely there Sunday. With the short week, I am not sure if practice/decision gets pushed to Sat though.

Given the choice, I would take Bell over Conner and it wouldn't take me that long to make up my mind.

he's like a present-day thurman thomas

...ummmm if Dwyer had 200 receptions in college and could run the wildcat. And not get tackled by the first guy...
Agreed if you play in that wacky G tech offence you have to be versatile to catch run and throw/often pitch side to fwd. From I recall Dwyer looked alright then he never gave a crap about his weight after reading more why he didn't last, Redman was decent back that just did have a 2nd burst. Conner perhaps ceiling of say a back like Michael turner Atlanta days

And Conner didn't practice Wed or Thu. Waiting to see if he goes today.

No. I just believe that Bell is/was a better player.

Bell is currently averaging 2.9 yards a carry, ( His yards per carrying has gone down every game ) and has fumbled once. I can't name a starting back in football with worse numbers. Let's give it to week 8. He could be the most overpaid player in the NFL.

To be fair their O-line is ******. Not that a year off didn't hurt him. Probably a combination of the two ......
