Another rookie who isn't even considering a rookie wall is a guy who feels he could be called up to the active roster any day now.

"The way things are looking probably either this week or soon," said wide receiver*Demarcus Ayers. "I've just been getting a lot of feedback the last couple of weeks. They had me running behind some guys. When*Eli (Rogers) isn't in I'm running F (slot) and when*AB's not in I'm running X (split end). Todd Haley just told me to stay ready, keep learning, that they're going to push me in at some point. I just don't know when. Probably got to figure out what's going to happen with*Hey-Bey, if he's coming back soon or not. But the arrow is pointing up."

Ayers was the team's 7-A draft pick and would become the fifth draft pick on the roster. The two picks not on the roster are still with the team:*Travis Feeney*is working every day on the practice squad and*Jerald Hawkins*is on injured reserve but in and out of the locker room.

Ayers confirmed that he spent a considerable amount of Monday's practice running routes with the first team. He said he's been making steady progress since playing through an ankle injury in training camp.

"My whole thing was just trying to get healthy," he said. "Now that I'm back healthy I guess they're seeing how well I'm practicing and how good I'm coming along. The whole 13 weeks have been a learning process for me but it's time for me to get healthy and keep learning as much as I can. I like where I'm at and I like where I'm going, progression wise, and I've been getting some good feedback from coaches, Ben, everyone, so I feel like my time is coming, if not this week then pretty soon."

He's just a little rookie. Highly doubtful he makes any impact this season.

this has rookie of year written all over it... seriously hope gets a chance to play.

He's been "red-shirted" long enough. Time to get him on the field.

Youns might not know how exciting he can be. Those of us here in H-town do.

I gotta tell ya...I think we got some players in this draft. Granted I know our defense sucks but I can't remember this many rookie draft picks from top to bottom logging playing time and making plays so early in a long, long time. I think it bodes well.

inspire Ayers Inspire Ayers Inspire Ayers

I hope for the best for this kid (Coolie) and Ayers too!

Your posts are starting to follow a formula. Are you a troll bot?

F off. I can express my opinion. What makes yours any better?

Mine's funnier.

Must spread reputation around before you give to Cope !!!!!!!

y'all really shouldn't mess up this wonderful Demarcus Ayers thread with your bullshit...stick to praising the greatest receiver any of you will ever see play the game

Coolie, we need a receiver like that. I just hope for a splash play here and there this year. I'd like to see him contribute some and IN THE PUNT RETURN catagory. Peace

hopefully it was his ankle holding him back in the punt return game during the preseason

I would love to see the kid get a chance, and would hope he could have some splash play in the offense

It'd be pretty kewl for a TD return on his first return, stuff legends are made of. In reality it would be good to have an unknown back there as the opposing teams seem to be kicking away from AB due to familiarity. Ayers is pretty fast and has directional speed which our boy Archer seemed to be missing. Inspires Ayers

I'm not getting too excited over that article since it is all Ayers comments and his thoughts on what the coaches are telling him. I'll believe he will be on the active list when the press release comes out....

I hope to see Ayers some day, but at some point I want to see the established guys here get into a rhythm and produce. The Steelers need more than just Ben, Brown and Bell to produce on a consistent basis. Green isn't comfortable yet, Rogers has his moments, but not many reliable options are out there right now.

The fact that Coates didn't get any better (if anything got worse) and busted his fingers hurt a lot. Wheaton not showing up at all this season hurt as well. Rogers got hyped out the *** but has not produces much. But I do think Green is ready to break out at this point. That sure would help open things up a bit. AB is still fantastic but have to counter when he is triple teamed. I hope Coates is full strength down the stretch, we will need him to be.

How didn't he get better? Lol . Dude was a lightning rod then he broke two fingers and received 10-17 stitches between his fingers.

Let's just hope he's healthy and can contribute down the stretch. First possession of the game on a deep TD is what the doctor is ordering..

So, he's back full strength? I need to read the injury report from cope.

This is from the injury spreadsheet, as Sammie broke his fingers in the 10/9 game:

Sammie's break will take 6-8 weeks to fully heal. 11/20 is 6 weeks 12/4 is 8 weeks. Left and returned to game 10/24

I went with 8 weeks on the return since he had a setback on 10/24. This is the week of 12/4, so his bones should be fully mended with no worry of a re-break this week.

And Coolie, It looks like DHB's mid-foot injury may derail his season. I won't be surprised to see DHB IRed this week and Ayres activated for the game.
