Harrison "sacks" Schefter for posting Pierre-Paul medical chart

Actually Schefter likely violated the HIPAA law. Back when I worked in a hospital I saw people get fired for less.

GREAT tweet James.................... These "reporters" think the rules don't apply to them. I say gillotene his writing hand...

Salute the nation

Schefter didn't violate any laws from everything I read, but it's hard not to question his ethics. He probably posted the photo so he would get credit and others wouldn't steal his story.

Schefter is not a medical professional, so HIPAA does not apply to him. However, the person who gave him that photo, or allowed him to take that photo, did violate HIPAA, and should be fired and sued.

Absolutely right. JPP also has grounds for a law suit against the hospital

I am a Medical Coder and the second I saw the photo Iw as like ruh roh.

Thing is many people have access to a chart. Buttttttttttttttttttttttttt the people accessing the chart better have had something to do with the chart otherwise that individual will be easy to find.

If the individual stumbled across his chart within the realm of their normal every day work process. Without hunting it down? They will be a hard find for the investigators. Unless they told someone and bragged........... The usual look I did this that gets people caught ****.

It's okay to stumble across stuff in your normal work, it's just not okay to tell people about it. Or take photos and give them to sports reporters.

Schefter is an excellent no BS type of reporter. If he says it, I believe it. I say blame social media, not him. As for Harrison, he's got the player's backs. I'd love to see him be the head of the union to counter Goodell's unchecked power.

I work in our nursing home and at our orientation the lady used to tell this story about a hospital. There was a nurse retiring and they had a retirement party for her on her wing. People took pictures and posted them online. In the background there was a whole rack of charts with readable names. All of those workers got fired and the lady lost her retirement. If I was JPP the hospital would be getting a huge lawsuit and some I bet some people get fired.

schefter is exactly what james said he is

I don't know why he felt compelled to post the picture. "JPP is getting finger amputated"-source. That would've covered it. Who says, "Bullshit, I need a pic of medical records, pal."

The content is sad. JPP is losing a finger, getting a significant skin graft, and needs pins for the rest of his hand. He will not play football this year.

bullshit, Schefter is a toolbag hack who has been wrong PLENTY of times since working for ESPN. Need I remind anyone of 2010 when he prematurely championed Clay Matthews the DPOY when it turned out Troy was the winner? The guy is a grade-A clown

At the end of the day, its not like this information was never going to become public but not for the release of this picture. Eventually someone was going to notice that he was missing a finger, that kind of **** is hard to hide.

Btw, for those of you who havent yet seen the pic, it isnt pretty.

Big point this piece of **** posted a photo of confidential records for the public to see. He had no right to that information. If he snuck in to a private area he committed a crime depending on how he got there. If he bribed an employee to do something illegal he is guilty of conspiracy to commit the crime that was committed by the employee who violated the privacy laws concerning this patient. He could be guilty of a burglary or breaking and entering which is a felony.

Let us suppose that shiter went through an unlocked gate that allows him behind the counter of the hospital at a nurses station and snapped the photo. He in the eyes of the law would have broken the imaginary seal of that closed door, entered and removed the goods, property, of another. Even though he removed an electronic copy what he has is stolen and is obviously stolen.

Bingo.

True and not one person in the industry can claim ignorant to HIPPA laws. We all have been versed on what can and can not be done..........

He is also on the Brady bandwagon for the suspension circus..... Brady gave an A++++ Performance.....Brady was a 10!!!.....Anonymous Source=Brady's Agent.

He has now came out and said he does not see Bell getting his suspension reduced.

****. Him.

Schmuckter is a piece of garbage. What the **** are you watching?

Well, JPP may have just found a way to get a piece of his 60 million back.

I work in the Healthcare field, in many hospitals, clinics and long term care facilities.

My technicians and I have to take annual HIPAA classes.

This situation is exactly the type of scenario why HIPAA was passed.

Regardless of whether or not the information would have eventually come out, it was leaked or stolen (in electronic format).

Somebody is going to lose their job.

Schefter could have had said: Sources tell me definitively that JPP's right index finger has been amputated.

He did not have to leak the photo. So much for protecting your source Shefty.... there is going to be an investigation, there is going to be a lawsuit and somebody that makes $45K a year is going to lose their job. I don't loathe Shefter as many of you do, but he definitely dropped about halfway down the ladder on this one.

Give me John Clayton any day.

Schefter screwed up bigtime. While he personally didn't break any laws, what he did was completely unethical...and unwarranted. Had I been the reporter, I would have taken the picture to protect myself against claims that my reporting was inaccurate...but no way in hell would I ever publish said information!

JPP should sue the hospital, absolutely. The person who allowed Schefter to PUBLISH the photo should be fired, and Schefter himself should be suspended.

Because as Jeffo said, a $45k employee is now going to lose a job...for absolutely no reason.

How do you know he did not break any laws? There is nothing that indicates what he did to obtain the picture of that screen? He may have very well broken laws to obtain it.
