Vincent, I'll jump in here.
There is no dispute that the Democratic party, back then, was very anti-Black. I'm not going to get into the nitty gritty but somewhere, in the timeline, they figured out that African-Americans could not be exterminated (completely) so, as the old adage says, "...when in Rome...", so they devised a new plan to lure AAs to support the Democratic party. It really is just that simple.
Most here know my ties to politics and religion and as an ol' school type of guy I stand my ground on my beliefs, but I don't just blindly follow the lead of those whom I support.
Now, let's talk about the holiday in question - Juneteenth. Obviously, even POTUS, has an opinion about the holiday that truly does celebrate the support that Union Army came (to Galveston, TX) to enforce the abolishment of slavery. Freedom. Real freedom. So, I ask, what is the problem with the holiday?
I really don't understand the spin of the author, in the link from the OP, on the KKK. There is NOTHING and I will repeat that, NOTHING, positive about that group regardless of the party and reason why it was born in this country. Shameful. In my opinion, they, then and now, instill terror on AAs---and, if we use the logic from the author, they should be targeting Republican AAs, right???

If the credo is to exterminate Republican AAs - why are AAs, who we know switched their support to the Democratic party, they are still being terrorized by the KKK??? True or false?
