Gurley 4 year 60 million 45 guaranteed

I am not certain, but think this is an extension. So, it is effectively a 5 year deal. I am not sure what he was set to be paid this year or whether he still gets it.

Great, they have a high priced player on a team that has never had a winning culture, except for the miracle competitive season every 10 years or so.

Already said but yeah, Bell is almost 4 years older with more than double the total touches in the NFL. Factor in inflation and Gurley being Bell’s age at the end of this, Rams are probably about right, if not a bit pricey. Oh, and Gurley not one toke from a Josh Gordon vacation.

This is the way I see it...and tell me if I am wrong.

This was a 4 year $60M extension. From what I read he was getting paid $4.4M this year and 9.6M next year - then his extension will kick in. So this is really a 6 year $74M contract - which averages to $12.3M per year. Bell was offered more per year just not as much guaranteed. I think Bell would have seen most, if not all, of that contract.

More, but Bell wants to go against the Steelers way of doing things and have more guaranteed up front.

Gurley is 2.5 years younger then Bell

I love Bell the RB, believe me, but you know the typical shelf-life of these guys. That's quite a difference when you factor in wear & tear/injuries. Bell stays in fantastic shape though so he may have a good few years still left in him.

In football years that's about 1/3 of a RB's life. Gurley has WAY more upside than BELL and hasn't had any drug suspensions or nearly as many touches. On top of all that BELL actually wants MORE $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Salute the nation

Gurley and Bell are not the same situation. Gurley was a first rounder so he had a better 1st contract. He's younger, so he will still be in his prime when this contract ends and he will get a 3rd contract for big money unless he gets injured.

Bell was a second rounder so his 1st contract wasn't great. He essentially missed his rookie season too so he got a late start. This year and next year is it for Bell signing a big deal. If he signed this year or if he signs a long one next year, he will be over 30 when it ends.

So with Bell, he is chasing old money he feels due for the past, and also he wants the max he can get because he knows this is the only shot he'll have at a huge deal.

From a contract perspective, his numbers he was playing under and that contract are torn up. 5th year option is voluntarily voided. Starting today, he's on his new 4yr 60M contract.

Bell is still “tripp’n”!!!

Gurley is younger; never been suspended a single time, let alone twice! Gurley had more rush yards on 41 less carries in ‘17, which would equate to 2 games worth of carries, and likely more than the 13 rushing TD’s he surpassed Bell with on the season. Also Gurley’s second double digit rush score total, in 3 seasons, to Bells zero double digit rush TD’s in 2 more seasons. Gurley had more receiving yards on less receptions, on the season n 6 receiving TD’s, only 1 less than Bell’s CAREER total TD receptions! All without the benefit of the best WR pulling defenders out of the box or a seasoned, HOF QB. Bell is arguably right that the RB salary needed resetting, just wrong on which RB should be doing the resetting! Rams got it right on that point!

Bell can go suck it when the Jets throw him stupid money going into his age 28 season n he gets buried on a regular basis. Just hope the Steelers can get #7, in spite of the wasted money on Bell’s tag that could have facilitated a better D???

Everyone should just accept that the RB market is being adjusted. Everyone saw this coming except the anti-Bell crowd.

Hell, wait till after M.Gordon, Zeke, and D.Johnson hit the market.

I don't think anyone is denying that. I think the biggest concern is with all the holes on defense, do you really sign a guy to $15 million a year or whatever and hamstring the defense for 4 or 5 years? You won't win that way. So Bell had a choice. You could get paid $13.3 million a year and have a shot at winning, or you could shoot for $15 or $16 million a year and get paid. He chose to get paid.

The Rams, as stated above have the luxury of a good QB on a rookie deal. With all the money they have been throwing around, when it comes time for Goff to get paid, they are gonna have a problem. Probably why they haven't signed Donald yet.

I hear you. And if it were simply between $13.3m and $15m, I would totally agree with you on the 'Winning' angle.

But I think the real concern was the guaranteed money portion.

From what I read he signed a 4 year extension and will be under contract for the next 6 years with the Rams. The Rams picked up his 5th year option.

I'm happy to see someone else get paid. Bell doesn't deserve it, he just whines and complains about everything he is entitled to. Let him walk next year, he won't be Pittsburgh's problem anymore.

Are you freakin' drunk or crazy??? This does not even deserve a response from anyone...

And this is why I stopped posting during the off-season... Because of flaming hot takes like the one above lol.

Leveon is going to get paid when he hits FA, and I am glad for both him and Gurley. These guys do a ton for their respective teams, so its about time they start earning $$$ commensurate with their production.

Same here...period the end.

Not to piss a few of yinz off, but you shouldn't let a few posts here and there rile you up to the point you don't talk Steeler football. Simply go to a different thread if one annoys you. Or take the day off, come back the next day refreshed. Always going to be a point of view you disagree with.

I dunno tougher skin?

For Gurley it's also an extension. If what the radio this morning said is correct, he still has this year and next on his rookie deal. If you average it over time he's making about the same as Smokey wanted.

Exactly. With his history of injuries and drug suspensions you'd be a fool to give Bell a lot of guaranteed money. Bell of course knows this and wants a lot of guaranteed money.

Here's the issue-

The argument was always, "He wants SOOO much more than the next highest paid RB, he should be just happy with what theyre offering". The problem was, there were no 'elite' RB's to compare that against.

Now that we have some elite talent at the position (Bell, Johnson, Gurley, Zeke), you had to know that the market will reset. And quite honestly, they deserve it considering their production.

The next 'market reset' hopefully happens with the QB market because it is TOTALLY over extended:

1.) Matt Ryan ($30mn/year)
2.) Kirk Cousins ($28mn/year)
3.) Jimmy G ($27.5mn/year
4.) Stafford ($27mn/year)
5.) Drew Brees ($25mn/year)

And only one of them has led their team to a superbowl ring. Hell, if NICK FOLES can lead your team to a ring, why would you ever pay a QB more than $20mn???
