First off not trying to be a stick in the mud or *****. Been doing cartwheels since the Bills game ended. However, on the Miller TD they had a choice of first and goal from I think inside the five but I'll be generous and even say the six or second and goal from the 1 and 3/4. If my plan was to throw I think I'd have taken the first and goal. But that's just me and I'm a simple fan.

I thought the same thing. Throw or run, take the first as it opens a lot more options up.

Salute the nation

they scored on the next play ... so to my mind, whatever Tomlin was thinking worked. Not that I agreed with it at the time. But, it worked ... so there's that.

He wasn't thinking and neither was Ben who was waving his arms for decline. Look you can dress things any way you like. He knew what he was doing. WTF. I can add and I'm pretty sure on the old probability scale that would be dumb.

first and goal from the five 1/2, you get a run down to the 1 1/2 and that's a pretty good gain... you are very set up for the next two plays....

Well if you want to throw which they did, not only do you get the extra down but better angles too. But I can't really make heads or *** out of anyone who would throw Blake in as a stater AGAIN. So who the **** knows.

but the bengals are probably reading pass from the 5, whereas the 1 everyone will be looking run first... its not a bad call per se.... its open to interpretation on what is best, unlike leaving Blake in as a starter

I think you misread what I wrote because I wasn't "dressing" anything. Nor did I say that he knew or didn't know what he was doing. In fact, what I said was that I didn't agree with it at the the time. But, it worked. So basically no complaints from me.

Seems that if anyone is doing any "dressing", it's you in regards to my statement.

Now, I'm going to go back to this fine Tequila and enjoy the win and the playoff berth.

I would think most of us are not NFL coaches/QB's because we are not smart enough or good enough despite our self evaluation's. Also because they don't allow second guessing.

Why did we go for 2 in the 4th QTR?

Up by 23-12, we went for 2, making it 25-12, a 3 score game.

If we fail to convert it is 23 -12 and a TD 2pt conversion and FG Ties the game. A two score game.

If we kick the XP it is a 3 score game.

What exactly did going for 2 accomplish?

More than likely it was a case of looking too far ahead; ie; if the Browns get 2 touchdowns, we can win it with a fg. That might make some sense against an explosive team, provided there was a fair amount of time left.

Dave I think your math is a smidge off if we are talking about the same thing. If it was the 23 -12 point there was no three score scenario. It was up by 11, up by 12 or up by 13. Thing is that 12 is 13 in that scenario. But like you said 11 is not 12.
I play some blackjack as I'm sure a few others here do. Here is the comparison. I play basic strategy and it is what it is. Now invariably, someone will walk up to a table and play a hunch. Say they hit a 13 against a 3 while we are all standing on whatever we are dealt. Hunchman gets a 4and stands on 17. Dealer busts on the hand and in the final analysis looking at the cards he would have busted anyway. Now some people at the table will not even notice what happened. Some people will say "meh" I won anyway. And some people will say what the **** are you doing and if it happens once more they pick up their chips and play another table. Clearly Mike Tomlin is hit 13 vs. 3 guy. Clearly.

I honestly don't think there was any real thought process in the two other than Mike said he was going to go for twos this year and to him that was the spot to do it. Good bad or indifferent, that's Tomlin.

Cause he is hit 13 vs 3 guy. Notice I or no one else is bitching about the 48 yard field goal miss. Why? Cause it is the correct play and a professional kicker of Boswell percentages statiscally should make it. He didn't. It is what it is.
