So now we see what these protests really were about, a shakedown for money. Apparently the NFL reached an agreement with players where the NFL will give $100 Million to social justice causes.

The word agreement is funny to me. It implies that each side is giving something up. What does the NFL get from this deal? Their players they already have under contract will actually follow rules? Not much of a concession.

Seriously. Roger Goodell is so incompetent it makes me wonder how he never worked for the Browns.

What no one is reporting is that the players who were pushing for the social justice causes agreement can't decide on which cause. So now there isn't a consensus amongst the players union. Anquan Boldin was supposed to lead it, but now there has been two other players starting their own group because they don't agree on the social causes.

Ridiculous.

Soon they will be protesting the protestors...what a mess.

So everyone stands for the anthem now, right?

How else would you describe it? The players themselves can’t even agree what or why they are protesting. Now they will accept a payoff to stop. Oh but some will still continue to kneel. Not because they are still angry about whatever undefined problem they claim, but because they want their own cut of the payoff money.

Go ahead, descibe this as other than a shakedown. Money. They took money to stop the protest. Remember when MLK took a wad of cash to stop or when Gandhi ended his hunger strike when the British gave him a Rolls Royce?

So, let me get this straight. Some of you are "upset" that the players have coerced the league into giving money to social justice causes. Something that the league probably should have been doing anyway; along with other worthy causes (cancer research, bettering the cities in which they are based, CONCUSSION research). And, although the players themselves will not receive the money, you view this as a shakedown, correct? A shakedown to HELP people and causes. How dare they?!!

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck....... Yes, it's a shakedown for MONEY. Tell me, who out of all these millionaire kneelers, was giving money themselves to "the cause" (whatever that means)? They learned quite well from Jesse "shakedown" Jackson.

Extortion 101...................KEEP doing something until you get what you want.

The NFL contributes to many many many causes. Why is it up to the players to decide which cause?????

Just curious

Salute the nation

Jesse Jackson sat in on these meetings? Must have been at the owner's behest then. Because most black folks under the age of 45 don't even consider Jesse, or Al or any of that ilk as "leaders" in the community. Most of us notice that they use "the cause" (whichever one they show up at) as a means for self-aggrandizement and publicity. But, if the players did shake the owners down, and it's walking like a duck, quacking like a duck, etc. .... Who the **** really cares? It's not taking any money out of my pockets. And again, if it helps people, I'd categorize it more in the "Robin Hood" variety of shakedown.

Because they had a platform, effectively used it and the league caved. Happens every day in the business world.

How many things have we as Americans thrown money at and it never gets fixed. Glad the NFL has deep pockets, because I am sure this will end up about the same way.

Are you that obtuse? NO ONE SAID JESSE WAS THERE. It was a comment on the way Jessie actually operates. Step A) Either threaten to or actually protest something Step B) company pays some money into a Jesse approved "non-profit", Step C) Protest goes away until Jesse's mistress needs a new car or dress.

Obtuse is a pretty big word for someone who didn't realize the inherent sarcasm in that line.
And, as I said in my post ... Who the **** cares? And, let me add ... Why? It's neither your nor my money.
I see a bunch of y'all getting your panties in a wad over money that was NEVER going to be in your pockets. Like it's your personal money going to fund this bribe. Yep, I said bribe ... because it looks, walks and quacks like that duck too (call it a Mallard if you want). Lighten up snowflakes ... this is how those rich guys operate. If you can't make the problem go away, try to buy your way out of it.

The owners and league could have stopped it the same day Kap took a knee. I bet they wished they had now.

From what I read on this site:

Black Athletes can not:
Kneel and pray during an anthem
Bring light to a concern about equal police protection
Let the country know that they are concerned if their children or family are pulled over by cops
bring up their concerns 'the right way'
Now that they are receiving some attention for others (not themselves) they are greedy
Since there are multiple groups that help with these concerns, they are now seen as not having a clear agenda?

Thank you for continuing to put the hopes and concerns of African Americans in a place where no one else can hear them...

SMFH...

they could have easily accomplished that goal without the sham protests. The NFL already donates millions to various charities. A group of players could have very easily put a group together that raised money for whatever charity they wanted. Look at what Watt did for Houston.

It bothers me that this whole protest of the flag and anthem is just a sham. Tell me what kneeling for the anthem has to do with any of this? It was a strong arm tactic to get money. Hence, shakedown.

BTW, i seriously doubt any of this money will really help anybody. It will likely end up in the coffers of political groups.

If the owners had done something, the NFLPA would have stepped in. There is no statute that requires players to stand for the Anthem. It wasn’t collectively bargained in the last CBA agreement. NFL stated they only ENCOURAGED players to stand.

I could explain that the players (mostly black) who knelt during the anthem only knelt because they were told by an honored war veteran that he felt that sitting was disrespectful to service members and kneeling was acceptable. But you already knew that.

I could explain that protesting the Anthem was done because the long version, not the abridged version we hear and sing, contains racially offensive wording. Maybe you knew that. Maybe you didn't. If you did, I doubt whether you have made the correlation between black athletes protesting racially offensive wording and kneeling while the Anthem is played.

The fact that some continue to overlook the stated basis of the protests and shape it in their own manner ... Eh, personally, I don't care about that because those folks would get upset about any type of protest. It makes them "uncomfortable" and they want it to stop. (snowflakes is the correct term, correct?).

Whenever folks protest anything, they have to realize that the likelihood that all their demands will be met is slim. I mean really, ending racial insensitivity in the U.S.? smh ... So, at some point they have to determine what is an acceptable outcome. In this case, money to groups fighting social injustice seems in line with the stated rationale behind the protests.

So your contention is the ONLY place a black athlete can have his voice heard is by protesting the anthem?

not during their daily interviews, not on facebook, twitter, snapchat, instagram, and whatever other social media was invented while i typed this sentence. Nope. Only during the anthem can a black athlete be heard.

It’s a strawman argument that the disagreement with the protests is an attempt to silence anybody. Simply a statement that it’s an inappropriate time and place and audience. These athletes can say whatever they want on their own time.

Bullshit, they could have done something they are the boss and the players are the employee. Period. They were scared to because of all of the PC bullshit backlash they were expecting but the opposite happened. Now the league is bleeding money. This is a quick way to buy the players off period.
