Okay,

Catching up as I just got power after a pain in the @ss storm. I did not see the game. Looking only at the film on NFL.com it seems both of our other ILB's were problems on the touchdowns by the Browns.

I saw Tyler Matakevich fail to get off a block and end up on the ground and Vince Williams reacting a 1/2 second too late and missing a tackle due to the read/lack of acceleration. The Browns scored on both pays.

One guy is too small, the other too slow. NFL coaches will see this....

I think this will be an issue as the season goes one. We shall see.

If we had more than 2 D-linemen on that play, we have a much better chance of stopping it.

Also Shazier bit on the inside move and got caught in the wash on the counter.

Which coach would only want two defensive lineman in a goal line play?

When I said before I'd like to ask Tomlin some follow up questions after the game, this would be a good one.

Its the wrong call.

Would have liked to see Shade Tree in there on the goal line - but he was not active...

What was the offensive formation

Coach is right again. The whole D line is soft - they get pancaked up the gut all the time.

Spindly legged LB's got speed but not the weight either. We are a finessed defense now.

We'll need 30+ points a game to play with the good teams, just like last year. Go Ben!

So there is your answer. 3 wr set you are going to get a nickle defense.

And the run D was soft. Look for other OC's to watch the film and try the same.

Although I viewed him as a very good, and not quite great player, the loss of Timmons in free agency run appears to be a problem. Timmons was pretty good vs the run.

You're right we've got Shazier, who's amazing but a big safety type unable to fight off blocks starting at ILB, and a slow 2 down Williams, or Rudy as the other starter.

We might need to play big Dan more often in the 4 man front's. Yes he's a zero vs the run or pass, but few push him around. Got to keep Shazier clean.

Second toll of film

49 second mark

2:56 mark 3 WR set, easy run in score, Williams too slow.

This is why so many on this board challenge you Coach. You say you understand the game, but all you do watching clips or the game itself is to follow the ball during the play. You don't follow the ball you look at the formations and identify the assignments. Then determine if the players followed their assignment.

This was the right defense was called, but Golden bailed his gap at the snap when he didn't need to. Crowell walks in practically untouched because no one was in the gap...which was Golden's responsibility not #98. Williams was right where he was supposed to be to protect his gap and cover the underneath. In fact he did a good job trying to get there from the opposite position. Golden had no reason to drop into coverage because Crowell didn't go in motion or run the parallel flat.

And also note, that was Golden's ONLY defensive snap. Never saw another one even though Wilcox was out. So the missed assignment was noticed.

Tuitt left the game on the second play. Obviously he's an important piece.

Tomlin was asked if he was suggesting that there is a “remote possibility that Tuitt could play this week?” He said yes.

NO WAY. Give the guy a game off and the medical people more time to check him out. Tyson Alualu is pretty decent as the next man up.

Ruptured muscles don't heal overnight - give him a month or he'll re-tear it

Did you see the link that I offered? Did you noticed how easily the DL was pushed around? Did you notice that Williams isn't fast and Rudy is a little small and slow too? We've got more problem than just Golden here.

It wasn't just one play!

Unless the Browns suddenly have a decent running game, we've got some issues no short yardage situations. As mentioned Timmons is missed and likely would have made the play Williams didn't.

Also, we need to play Big Dan more while Tuitt is out or hurting. The problem last Sunday is Tomlin had him in-active.

Tomlin rushed Dupree back in camp too soon. In camp....that didn't work out well for the Steelers. Agreed, let the guy heal.

Yes. I did. Did you? Just follow the ball or did you watch the formation and how the assignments were picked up? No. You haven't because you only look at the end result. Not the reason for the result.

You do realize Cleveland only had 57 yards rushing on 25 attempts. Or 2.28 per attempt. That's what you want your run D to do. The longest run was 11 yards and that was by Kizer. The next long was 6. The Crowell TD was a missed assignment. Kizers TD was good movement by him to keep driving through the pile.

McCullers is a lost cause he hasn't performed otherwise why was he inactive? Alualu and Walton can do more that's why. He was kept over Maxey because of ST.

As I said it wasn't 98's gap. It was 20. Who bailed for no reason right before the snap thus leaving his gap wide open. 98 had the same amount of tackles as all other LB with the exception of Watt.

Don't know who you are referring to as Rudy, don't care, because you have no clue. But I grant you this, you sure provide lots of comedic board responses with how amusing you believe how knowledgeable you thInk you are. That's great for Steelers81 board.

Dupree didn't play because of a should injury before the 3rd preseason game. Dupree said the injury (undisclosed at the time) wasn't serious but lingering and didn't want to go through what he did last year on IR. So how you feel Tomlin is responsible is beyond intelligence.

I saw Shazier bite on the run fake and was caught in the wash on the counter. The second thread I've mentioned this to zero discussion.

It still was a goal line situation, the D had to have three big guys upfront. Why is it impossible to have a 3 DL front in nickel and short?

I'm just not a Dirty Red fan. All the reports from training camp said he was a monster, but I thought he was generally poor in preseason games. Maybe he looks great in practice because he's so smart that he can guess what our offense is going to do, but he can't apply that to another team's offense? Yes, he's limited physically but he could be just fine as a backup if he was able to anticipate properly --- but all I see is him guessing and attacking the wrong gap.

P.S. I've been away from this site for months, but I'm glad Coach is still here spouting his uninformed nonsense. Sure what we need is more Big Dan, a guy that can't even stand out playing against 3rd string O-lineman that are now working for UPS!

On the goal line we had 2DL, and neither was Hargrave, that is idiotic to ever just have 2DL on a goal line, more than likely your LB is going to get eliminated
