Gilbert's Contract Restructuring

Woodley's dead money comes off the books next year ... that will go a long ways towards keeping us out of cap hell next year.

I'd heard that mitchell had been playing hurt at the end of the season. I truely hope that was the case as he looked like he had to poop all the time. ****** play. I wish we didn't have to restructure all the time, that's what keeps us in cap hell. Average players, future salory.

Yep..i read that some where also.. and maybe switching him to Troy's spot would be a better fit for him.

BTSC reports we will let Worlids test FA. Also read an article linking us to Bryan Orakpo . . .cant remember where. Made a good case for a short term, incentive-laden deal. I expect us to re-sign Moats and McCain shortly.

Don't forget that Keisel and Ike will be likely gone too. That will add some money to our growing treasure chest...

Pouncey will be restructuring as well per PFT.

I am sure Colbert and co. will be active this free agency again.

Hopefully this time around with better results.

Don't forget depth at DE. Keisel and Cam Thomas will both be cut.

Ike is a free agent. No savings there. Keisel will be cut, but I don't think the savings amounts to anything after you account for his replacement on the roster (might save a few hundred k on a net basis). It's Cam Thomas, Lance Moore and Polamalu...those are the 3 cuts that save us money. Troy would save $6 million if he is cut with a post-June 1st designation ($3 million of the $6 million doesn't open up until after June 1, but you can use that to sign the draft class).

The story is that Mitchell was nursing a groin injury from the start of training camp through the entire season. It makes sense to the extent that we never really saw Mitchell's speed (ran a 4.4 coming out of college). But I don't think he was more injured towards the end of the season --- that was when his play started to improve.

The real reason for the restructures...we will stupidly keep Troy at his current salary. The Rooney's are too faithful to guys who are pretty much done. Troy is worth may 2-3 million as a pure run stuffing backup safety and for leadership. He cannot cover anymore.

Ain't gonna happen. If Troy plays next year, it'll be in another uniform. Hope you are willing to admit you were wrong when that happens.

That is the way I saw it. He improved down the stretch. If it was a groin early in camp, it would make sense that he looked better in Dec.

Now I understand financially that Troy makes sense to cut. Though Troy is one of those Steeler players that come once a decade, that exudes class, competitiveness, and ability. The steelers will find a way to keep him, and like Ike, I think Troy will be asked to take a pay cut this season. If he's going to retire a steeler, he will have to take the pay cut, and I feel this is a move both the team and the player will be open to.

Troy is finished. Was painful to watch him in the Wild Card game. Suiting up next year would be a very, very rough watch and would hurt the team.

I don't the Rooneys are all the faithful. Look waht they did to Rod Woodson, Hines Ward, and Joe Porter. I think if they think he is done they will ask him to retire or walk. I hate it, but he just is the Taz he used to be.

They let Woodson go too early. That was a mistake.

They let Porter go when he still had something in the tank, but Harrison was cheaper and just as good. Plus they thought they had the heir apparent in Timmons. That was business and it turned out exceptionally well.

They let Hines Ward stick around til he'd given all that he had to give. So what's the problem there? I don't get this revisionist history about Ward that says that he was pushed out the door when he still had a lot left to give. Ward was D. O. N. E. ... DONE his last year as a Steeler. As evidenced by the pathetic tactic of feeding him shovel passes and screens to get him to 1000 catches. Don't get me wrong, Ward was one of the greatest Steelers of all time, but age and decline catches up to the best of them. Hines Ward was no exception and it was time to move on. Just as it's time to move on from Troy, Ike, Da Beard and JH.
