Gerry Dulac ...Jarvis Jones every bit a draft bust.

Best advice anyone could give to Jarvis Jones right now - go find James Harrison and ask if you you can work out with him this offseason. Rent an apartment as close to his house as you can find. Go to the gym with him every single day. Go to lunch and dinner with him as often as he will permit. Move into his basement for a few months if James will allow it. Mirror everything James Harrison does. Ask him questions. Ask James to make you into a second version of himself.

James Harrison didn't have any of the measureables coming out of Kent State. He made himself into the player he became through long hours of hard work. Jarvis Jones can't make himself much faster or quicker. But he can make himself much stronger, much smarter on the field and develop better pass rushing moves. There is no OLB in recent memory who made more of himself with what he had than James Harrison. There is no better example for Jarvis Jones.

The only question really is - does he want to improve?

That is not necessary true. There are a lot of trainers out there that specializes in speed and quickness. Like you said, he needs to put in that extra work and seek out the ways to become who he wants to be as a LB. Pure athletic ability got him to the NFL, but now he needs to step it up and improve on the details of his game. James is a workout fiend. A lot of our younger guys, offense and defense can take some lessons from him.

Except a nasty attitude and serious strength. He did have a crappy pro day though.

Pure athletic ability didn't get him to the nfl and is why he dropped. His motor is what got him to the nfl he has no athletic ability

I'm thinking Uncle Jarvis doesn't give a **** and will retire after his first contract with a few million in the bank like Worlids did.

he may have dropped, but he had to have some athletic ability to play LB in the SEC. You don't make it to the NFL purely on motor alone. I also thought he dropped because health concerns, if I'm not mistaken.

He was also torpedoed by a series of awful, awful pre-draft workouts.

A couple of weeks before the draft I texted to Supe that I hoped they didn't take that LB from GA. The Spinal Stenosis issue alone would be enough to make me say no. By the time the draft came around, it seemed a certainty that it was exactly what they were going to do.

I hope he proves everyone wrong. Well, everyone except the FO. I hope he proves them right!

Reference: Alonzo Jackson, who we also stupidly drafted.

yea, that was it. Thanks. Too lazy to research it. I remember there some red flags, but the FO was all too giddy to get him and they didn't hide their circle jerk for him. I still think Greg Lloyd cursed #95 for anyone who wore it after he did.

The myth that you have to be a athlete to play in the sec. ehich has been proven time after time by sec defensive players of the year. There were many on here that were not happy with the pick and then there was the he's going to be great crowd because he was the sec d player of the year. If he showed any athletic ability in his workouts he would have been gone by us he fell because he showed nothing and had the health problems.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but he was slated to go in the first round, so someone thought something of his ability. I wanted Eifert, but that didn't happen. He's been injured as much as Jarvis, so I doubt that pick would have been much better.

Slated to go by the media, and mainly because it was obvious he would be the steelers pick. This is another trend that started when Tomlin took over, the steelers 1st round pick seems to be known in advance. Under cowher there was always a group of players people thought they would take, but it was rarely easy to guess the steelers pick. Under Tomlin, it seems most year we know in advance who they want. Last year they did a good job of hiding their love for Shazier. I hope that continues.

Getting back to Jones, I'm not sure he would have gone in the 1st round if the steelers hadn't taken him. He was a pure 3-4 OLB prospect. That eliminates most teams. The only team that may have taken Jarvis is the colts. They took Bjorn Werner at 24. He tested much better than Jarvis and could play DE or OLB. Pagano coming from the Ravens scheme favors bigger defensive players. I think they still take Werner even if Jarvis is on the board.

Looking at the 2013 draft, i think it's possible Jarvis would have been available for the Steelers in Rd 2. Imagine that if the Steelers had then taken Jarvis instead of Bell. Now that would have been a tragedy.

Imagine if we took Werner or Collins or Alonzo or Okafor or a variety of other players in the 1st AND Bell in the 2nd. Yea, I know Alonzo he is hurt and Okafor was taken later but I'm just making the point that Jones was a stupid pick. If it were me, I would not have taken Jones in the first 4 rounds. No way.

Jones has proved nothing since he came here. Either trade him (best option) or we can only use him on special teams (as someone else already stated). He is a bust. It's time to move on.

Injuries are the only reason I am holding out a little hope at this point. He hasn't been on the field all that much and last year when he was he couldn't use his hand. Year 3 is the determining year for me when it comes to most draft picks unless they are Limas Sweed bad. If he doesn't stay healthy and improve a good deal this year, it's not happening most likely.

Jones had red flags on injuries. USC told him he could not play football. He has a narrow spine condition ( Forget the medical term ) and has arms like a DB. Jones worked out like a rookie free agent linebacker.

I see a bust.

Honestly, what do you think we could get for Jarvis? I'm pretty sure it a 6/7th. Do you think he has the body to take the collisions on special teams? I just cant see him holding up.

I'm just hoping that he pans out to some degree and can give us 4-5 sacks and reasonable pressure.

move him to the defensive backfield. Shazier, too. Change the landscape of the game! Seattle provided the model. We'll find a spot for him yet. . .
