I think Tombert has fallen into the trap of drafting by measurables instead of looking for ballers. That can work on offense, less so on defense IMO. For defense you need to look for ballers. For example last year I said they should have drafted Aaron Donald, DL from Pitt. Now you could say it's a moot point because Donald was taken before the Steelers picked, but besides having a long-time allergy to Pitt players, everyone said he's too small and too short to play DE in a 3-4 and I know damn well they wouldn't have taken him anyway. Donald ends up being Defensive Rookie of the Year. Baller. Shazier may end up being good but you can't tell me we're better off with him than Donald.
