Game Thoughts

I guess, he is "solid" in that he is not a liquid or a gas.....

latest

Finally, somebody who paid attention!!

I just hope we run our 4th quarter trailing offense from the start of the game... It allows Ben to use his strengths and avoid his weaknesses...

I'm not looking at a few games. I'm looking at the totality of results. And.....the biggest game of those 4 is the one he lost. Big ****, they won both last year. They finished 5 and ******* 11. Wow. But, hey, he beat the Steelers who, apparently, have the shittiest possible coach who can't put talent on the field.

I guess, he is "solid" in that he is not a liquid or a gas.....

The Rats have always done a good job of rebuilding on the run without truly bottoming out. Yet we did it without a single losing season, and our coach and GM are bums according to some on this board. Those same folks will say we didn't bottom out because of Ben, yet the Saints, with a qb that pretty much everyone who isn't a Steeler fan thinks is better than Ben, and with a well respected coach, are probably going to post their third consecutive losing season, and fourth in five years. The Steelers have gone 13 years without a losing season, matching the run from 1972-1984. Steeler fans are spoiled. The 80s, which we consider to have been horrible, would be the glory years for about half the teams in the league, with four playoff seasons, and a trip to the AFC Championship game. True hard times will eventually come one day. Ask Cleveland how it feels.

NE didn't play any good offenses this year. Jets, Bills, Dolphins x2. Steelers(no Ben), Rats, Bengals, Browns, Rams, Cardinals, 49ers, Seahawks, Denver, Houston.

The thoughts here are entirely predictable - Ben sucks, Ben isn't elite, Defense wins championships

boring

I find other teams boards so much more fun to read these days

Go Bengals

I feel like the more we all root against that piss-rag, inbred-endeared, *******-****** of a franchise, the more they pull through to victory. Honestly, how many times does it seem they just pull Victory out of their *** when it seems Defeat is about to consume them and spray their name out it's *******?

Ravens You absolutely ******* suck. **** you. Your whole franchise is a worthless ******* lie and a sham. **** you you worthless ******* cocksuckers. You ************* suck.

This was beyond hilarious. However if we're honest, we do have to own up to some improbable wins over the years. I'm not complaining, mind you, but just acknowledging we have been on the good side of some historical moments.

you keep pointing to the one losing season... as if it is some determining factor

most good coached teams have a down year or not?

BTW I seem to remember a rat team with more injuries than I can remember a team having....

that couldn't have contributed ?

the first game this year, Ben was coming off of an injury, but doesn't matter, right?

Shouldn't the "solid" coach have backups that can step up? Tomlin just beat that coach while missing 2 srarting DL AND with Ben giving them the ball deep in our own territory, twice.

Good game and if you enjoy watching sloppy tackling and an ever present "free catch" zone in the middle of the defense..... you got a bonus Overall the defense is improving but there is still some work to do. The "kids" are starting to spread their wings on pass defense and the run 'D' will improve when we can stop playing our practice squad guys on the line. They made it exciting, that's for sure. Big Ben can be a four letter word at times but when it comes time to get to gettin'....there's non better. The receiver's bench is starting to look strong and it's a damn good thing we have AB and Bell.

I don't really forsee any chance gettin' a ticket to ' the dance ' but I would love to be proven wrong.....

GO STILLERS

Personally, I think that "if" we get to the AFCCG, against the *'s, the only thing that can beat us there will be some sort of "technical" glitch - i.e. radio interference

Right now, we have the better overall team to win the AFC and everyone w/ football sense knows it. Said it before, but, I'll say it again, I don't get paid to make decisions for the team, but, I'm looking at the BIG PICTURE---if we want to go far in the PO race, REST THE ESSENTIAL PLAYERS THIS WEEK.

Miami only has a running game - and we've vastly improved that part of our defense since we last played them. Beat Miami and guess who's next? *'s in Foxboro and I WOULD LOVE TO SEE Marsha Brady retire after the epic meltdown in NE.

Keepin' it positive,
Berm

I can't stand this team. This might be the first year the AFC east had another 10 win team. Essentially New England just has had to beat a very bad AFC east teams for ( Win 7 or 8 ) , and split the other four. The result is a golden ticket to the playoffs and a home playoff game.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens made NFL history during Sunday's thrilling Christmas Day showdown.

According to Steelers Public Relations Director Burt Lauten, Sunday's game between the AFC North division rivals is the most watched regular season game in NFL Network history, as 14.8 million viewers tuned in to watch the Steelers come back from a 20-10 deficit to defeat the Ravens, 31-27.

Funny how I can't find ANYWHERE "why a flag was not thrown for the APPARENTLY OBVIOUS FACE MASK on Weddle"...I know we won, but, the officiating against us is getting to be unbearable.
Couldn't disagree more. I was at the game and it was loud and crazy til the final play.
I've been to a good amount of games and was by far the loudest and one of the most intense games I've been to.
Tunch and Wolf also said it was one of the loudest games they've heard in a long time.
Coach made his assessment after watching a 4 minute clip on YouTube...

Here's what the Steelers do. They don't rely on the refs to win the game for them, or lose the game for them. They don't ***** about calls or point to calls as to reasons why they didn't perform. They play the game hard, and even when they're not getting the calls, they're still making the plays.

That picture is a microcosm of the Steeler/Ravens rivalry. The Ravens are doing everything they can, throwing everything they have at the Steelers to win the game, including breaking the rules, but it doesn't matter because the steelers have more heart, desire, and will to win. This is an emblematic play that usually precludes a run to the Super Bowl. Let's watch and see if they can do it.

I've got a feeling.....

You are correct, Cope. I give Tomlin mad kudos for having his team focused on the next play, the next series, and the opponent, and not get sideways whining about the refs.

That said, Brown has had his facemask grabbed - obviously and blatantly - two weeks in a row with no call. Facemask is not a difficult call, for crying out loud. The refs need to pull their heads out of their butts and do a better job.

and they even took out all of the subjectivity from whether it should only be a 5 yard call or 15. Grab the face mask for a partial second, it is, usually, obvious, and the flag goes.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Bell run right over Orr early in the game.

Yeah, you would think they might figure out how to cover the tight end after allowing short and mid-range gains on curl patterns again and again, but it never happened. And Bud Dupree really hasn't been impressive to me, especially rushing the passer. Yeah, he had a sack...when he was blocked and Flacco pretty much ran right into him in the middle of the field. Also, he completely gave up on the play where the Ravens took the lead late. Just stood there and watched while #44 was breaking Mitchell's tackle. Fortunately, that weak-*** effort gave the Steelers the extra time needed to score at the end. Otherwise the linebacker play was fairly solid. And I don't know who the hell #62 is, but he induced a huge holding call on the Ravens which helped to stall a drive in Steelers territory in the second quarter.

.

Dupree is starting to become a concern from a pass rush standpoint. He really hasn't shown much at all in that regard. He has some sacks, but they've been largely attributable to the QB holding the ball for an extended period.

They're probably going to have to address the position again with one of their first two picks next spring.

I've said before, the Steelers begin each season with the goal of winning the Super Bowl. The Ravens (and Bengals) begin each season with the goal of simply beating the Steelers.

They manager to see Davis grab Elliott's vs Dallas and it wasn't nearly as obvious as the ones on Brown and the one on Coates in Cincy

Lets be thankful for the sloppy tackling otherwise Jusczyk doesn't score and Ben doesn't get a chance to win the game. If Mitchell were a good tackler Jusczyk would have been down on the 4 or 5 yard line. I was hoping the Steelers would just let them score at the 2 minute warning. It was our only hope, the defense wasn't preventing a TD on that drive, the question was how much time would be left and thanks to sloppy tackling there was 9 seconds more than Ben needed.

******* historic............Urlacker can relate to that..............

Salute the nation

I only feel a little for Jusczeck. That was a hell of an effort for what he thought would be the game winning TD, and would have been a story to add to Raven's lore, had the Steelers failed to score.

There was no way the Steelers let him score, he pulled off an incredible effort of balance and desire to get across that goal line. Much like AB showed on the opposite side just over a minute later. Just an epic game.
