I don't think this team is worse than the 1989 Steelers team from a talent standpoint but the one thing that Steelers team had that this team doesn't was a great Head Coach! Chuck Noll took a lot of heat in the late 80's. If you go back through history and look at what Noll was doing in the late 80's he was once again building a Super Bowl Contender. Many of his draft picks were responsible for Bill Cowher's early success as a Head Coach. Chuck Noll > Mike Tomlin. Even Chuck knew he had rebuilt the team into a Super Bowl Contender....but he told his wife....it was time to retire!
Bingo. The payment for 70's greatness was drafting dead last or near it for most of it. Those great players aged out. Thankfully they drafted some great players before he retired and Cowher took over and continued his work.
I'm glad a few people remember these things.
The spot they're stuck in now is just awful.
