Game Balls, Game Goats & FU's...............@ Ratbirds

Yeah highlight plays aside, both Buggs and Spilane had some bumps... i think Alualu is grossly undervalued.... the dude was like the second or third graded dlineman all season... nobody is doubling Buggs... they were gashing us up the middle... maybe next time we may have to just play a traditional 3-4 set vs them instead of our modified pass rushing front set.... just clog lanes... jackson aint winning **** without that run game going

The penalty wasn't on hitting LJ in bounds, it was for landing on him out of bounds. That will be called every time.

Game ball to Berry. 5 great punts, and no Colquitt shanks!

Long snapping was *** today though. One really high one that Berry got to. Ben was reaching all over the place for Pouncey's balls. He'd been good after week 2, but this past game was bunk for his shotgun snaps.

I think we tend to overglorify the ravens.... they are a good team, but we always play them ultra conservative early as if the o has no chance of passing on them and tend to also play them too amped up at times... i think when pouncey is trying to hard to get the jump on his blocks he tends to get erratic....

the announcers said the call was changed and it was on Heyward, he did not land on jackson...

are you saying the ravens are a glory hole ?

Ravens had a big advantage with having a BYE last week. The titans covid postponement wasn't fair to the steelers. The ravens had some offensive wrinkles prepared which is part of why they ran so successfully. The other part is the steelers clearly planned to contain Jackson first and tackle the RB later. That's a smart strategy. They just didn't stop the dive play well enough. Losing Alualu was a part of that. Not having Bush is a part of that.

What i don't understand is how Fichtner seemed surprised by what the Ravens were doing. The ravens are all about press coverage and stuffing the run. Why did it take until the second half to figure out to spread them out and use bunch formations? This is the pattern with Fichtner. He starts way too slow and giving away half a game is going to catch up with them eventually.

Highsmith looks like Lamar Woodley.

This win was huge. You have to remember that they added a wildcard team. That means that only the 1 seed gets a bye in each conference. With the steelers having an early week 4 bye, they can sure use that bye heading into the playoff stretch.

My game ball goes to coaching. Tomlin-etc.

when they need to be criticized I will.

When they deserve praise I will.

My reasoning is this in seasons past often they did not make necessary adjustments.

I have seen changing defensive alignments, changing offensive alignments.

Honorable mention: BigBen with his uncanny ability for comeback wins.

This is the only issue I have with the coaching staff. They are WAY too slow to adjust. Most teams seem to adjust quarter to quarter, series to series, but the Steelers seem to adjust half to half if they adjust at all. Would like to see Fichtner get the offense going a little faster. This team basically throws away a half of football trying figure out what works. It's frustrating.

**** in times past it wasn't slow it was not at all. I will take slow and a win 10 out of 10 times over the alternative.

But yeah sure you would like adjustments a little faster.

The defense is doing a good in limiting what Edmunds needs to do. Although Fitz is still very good, he's missing more tackles this year.

If I was a facetious sort of person, I would say Fitz must have attended the Troy Aumua Polamalu School of Tackling in the off season. That old school " flying missile" tackling style is very distinctive.

Either that or his wings just haven't matured enough yet.

Overall, the defense got steamrolled.

I mean, you have to acknowledge the 14 points they directly or indirectly accounted for and the stops at the end, but damn.

I'm a bit concerned by what we saw today, especially considering they struggled to stop the Titans in the second half last week.

I make no excuses - but we played within the defensive scheme and 'barely' gave up many big plays. I promise you, had Devin Bush been on the field, this would have been an onslaught for the Rats. I can't wait to see the outcome next year when he's paired w/ Spillane.

One thing I forgot...

I'm taking Buddy's game ball away. Go back and watch - had Buddy 'kept going to the QB' - Lamar would not have made several of the big plays from yesterday. Just do your job and he doesn't fake you out and run outside for 20+ yards...

the announcers said the call was changed and it was on Heyward, he did not land on jackson...

I heard that too after the conference. I also didn't see the flag fly until Lamar hit the ground. At that point they felt they had to access a penalty, then had to try and remember who they saw hit him last.

And all of this 'Steelers start to slow on offense' talk, have to realize this is part of the road strategy. Don't turn the ball over is #1. We turned it over once yesterday and it was nearly the backbreaker in this game. Big 10pt deficit. The gameplan had to change slightly getting down big, but this is what halftime adjustments are for. We have a weapon in Big Ben that can spread out and attack the entire D, and he is doing it with aplomb this year.

Going no huddle in the second half saved this game for us. We spread them out and picked them apart. Saw another batted ball by Campbell at one point in the game, something to watch for. Some of our play calling was suspect along the way but this team won and that's all that matters. Hope there is no let down as we get 3 scrub teams the next 3 weeks.

Well, Calais is what... 6'8"?

He maybe might get a ball batted once in a awhile. At least it wasn't like the Tenn game, what was it 3 or 4 balls?

Except that Minkah did NOT hit him out of bounds. Heyward pushed Jackson and he and Minkah fell down out of bounds. It was a nothing play, one the refs use to "set the agenda."

But one that keeps a drive alive and very much changed the momentum. Bad call.

Game ball to Berry. 5 great punts, and no Colquitt shanks.

Absolutely. His last punt from the 14 yard line went 49 yards with huge hang time and a fair catch at the Rats 37 yard line. A Colquitt 38-yarder with a 7 yard return and the Rats are set up at the Steelers 45-yard line. HUGE punt.

that call on Heyward was terrible, Jackson was still inbounds and fighting for yards

not the worst officiating after that though

the halftime adjustments worked on both sides of the ball

Spillane played well, showed some speed chasing down the ratbird on one of their big plays

That was a terrible call. He was still in bounds. QB's (eg. Mahomes) are starting to take advantage of defenders easing up just before they go out of bounds. They fake like they are going out of bounds, then cut back in when defender backs off. Mahomes did that spin-a-rama ( I think last week).

As Coolie mentioned, the call was attributed to Heyward. Recognized in the official boxscore as "Unnecessary Roughness."

EXACTLY and they (QBs, Mahomes has done it) are flopping similar to soccer players. I say "earthquake" them all and then check for dresses.

Salute the nation

what's frustrating about the ravens, is they always suck the steelers into playing their grungy game. I hope next time they play, they just spread them out and go no huddle and keep the pressure on them. If they are going to press without deep safety help then throw downfield to Claypool. If they stay back then carve them up with DJ and JuJu on underneath run after catch plays.

I think Spillane is better in coverage than Vince who’s a step slower Vinces is still a plug in the middle and great blitzer but those sliding window zones where the windows open oh no now it’s closed is what coach Bradley brought with him from penn state and Spillane and bush are perfect for that. The linebackers have to be able to cover now in nfl it’s as much a part of job as stopping the run. what’s great about this team so far is the depth, Spillane, buggs, now adding Williamson, rotating the wrs in and out is killing the defenses we’ve played so far and the offensive line is big and physical the depth been really good. Been giving Ben time and they can smell the goaline! If we dont turn the ball over we will be there at the end in every games we play, we are tufff as *** right now! The rest of the NFL better tighten their chin straps winter is here and “the Men of Steel” are coming!!!!
