Game Balls, Game Goats, & FU's.............@ Chargers

Game Balls, Game Goats, & FU's.............@ Chargers

Hate to bring up the punter, but Berry had one of his best games ever. He started with a 59 yard punt with no return, a 45 yarder fair caught at the 9, a 46 yarder downed at the 14, and ended with one downed at the 1 yard line. A+ Berry.

Coach has some explaining to do, considering his HOF punter Dickson had a 23 yard punt from his own 1 yard line with the game on he line. That’s right 23 yards!!! Fortunately for him, they were playing the Stains.

First half was stellar but we can't seem to put a team away. 24-17 was too close for my comfort. I'm figuring injuries are rapidly depleting our key players and that is why the Chargers were able to stage a mini-comeback. Now I hear Watt, Conner, Tuitt, and Bush are dinged. I don't know whether it was the game plan or not but with Hodges we don't appear to have a deep passing game. That's not going to work if you're facing a solid defense.

This is always the way this team rolls. Just when you think a loss will put the nail in the coffin, Tomlin and Co. find a way to rally the troops and play a decent road game.

Games like this are why Tomlin always finds a way to 8-8 or better.

Still can't wait for this regime to end but nice to see some pride wearing Black and Gold last night. Funny how when you run the ball and manage down and distance and play within yourself and your capabilities things just work out. As many games are "lost" in the NFL as "won" and this was a game we didn't "lose" or throw away making dumb mistakes or bad decisions (in fact, we let San Diego do it).

It doesn't happen nearly enough under Tomlin that we're the smarter, more disciplined, more play-withing-ourselves, team. But last night we certainly were.

Some of those passes by Rivers had so much air under them, it looked liked it was punted to their guy and the ball comes down with not a single Steeler player near the ball.. it was unbelievable.
That Tampa 2 defense is total complete ****.

BEEN that way for years.

Travelling to LA with your 3rd String QB making his first NFL start and coming away with the win......I guess our Steelers are back in the hunt and have a pulse after all at 2-4 after 6 weeks going into the bye. I love seeing the Steeler Nation invade opposing team's stadiums but tonight was almost ridiculous.....It was at least 60 or 70% Steelers fans in that stadium tonight. Congratulations to Devlin Hodges getting a Win in his first NFL start! The Defense set the tone early for the game with great pressure on Phillip Rivers and a few costly turnovers both recovered by Rookie Devin Bush. I love going into the BYE week on a win. Hopefully Mason Rudolph can get back into the saddle before our next game Monday night vs Miami. A good game all around and a good game plan by the Coaching Staff to limit Devlin Hodges exposure to that Chargers Defense. I'm beginning to wonder how good this team truly is. Yes we are a 2-4 team but those 4 losses.....3 of which were close games are against 4 teams with a combined record of 20-3.

Injuries:
Stephon Tuitt - Pectoral injury....will have an MRI tomorrow
TJ Watt - Oblique being evaluated
Joe Haden - Groin injury
James Conner - Quad Injury being evaluated

Game Balls:
James Conner - Hard running tonight helped make everything easier for Devlin Hodges making his first NFL start. Conner got the hard yards. 16 carries 41 yds, 7 rec 78yds & 2 TD's
Benny Snell - Did a great job coming in for an injured James Conner to keep the pressure off Devlin Hodges late in the game.....nice game 17 carries for 75 yds, 1 rec 14 yds
Cameron Sutton - He just keeps making plays.....reminds me of a young Deshea Townsend.....great coverage all night tonight & and a nice INT to seal the game. Not to mention his onsides kick recovery coming up with the football.
Devlin Hodges - He wasn't great but got the job done making his first NFL start. WTG Rookie! 15 for 20 132 yds 1-TD
Jordan Berry - Having his best year as a Steeler....tonight might have been his best game punting including a coffin corner kick to the 1yd line late in the game to put the Chargers back against the wall
Devin Bush - 2 turnovers....one returned for a TD & an INT. On that fumble return heads up to Devin Bush for making a play on the football because TJ Watt, Tyson Alualu & Vince Williams were all huddled around it doing nothing. WTG Devin Bush!
O-line - Blew some big holes in that Chargers Front 7 tonight....big part of the victory tonight

Game Goats:
None - Hey even Moncrief caught a pass tonight!

FU's:
FU to all the fans of the lesser 31 teams....that's how you TAKEOVER an opposing teams Stadium! STEELER NATION BABY!!!

Holton gets a game goat for not coming back on the Hodges INT. Then he redeems himself killing the punt at the 1.

Fun game to attend. We had field passes and were in the end zone to the right on the tv feed the entire game. Got to fist bump Edmunds during pregame and shook Juju's hand as he ran around the stadium after the game.

My game ball goes to Sutton. I didn't think he had it in him. I was critical all last season of him. Sometimes it's nice to be wrong.

injuries is part of it.
playing prevent defense is another part.
And it is also fair to expect the offense to be able to get a couple of first downs to eat a little clock in the forth quarter too. Even one more first down takes another 2 minutes off the clock or forces SD to start burning time outs while we have the ball.

Two weeks in a row with Cam Sutton making great, game changing plays.

It amazing how little our current regime takes this strategy into a game. The nuances of football strategy seems lost, at times, with HCing responsibilities.

Two weeks in a row with Cam Sutton making great, game changing plays.

Has made plays on the ball and had tight coverage all year. Gets put on the outside and makes the game sealing play. YET he does not start for the injured Nelson. What the **** does this coaching staff see. Failed and mentally fragile Artie Burns over Sutton.

I'm beginning to wonder how good this team truly is.

That's just it, we have a very talented team who are severely under-performing. This IS the Mike Tomlin Steelers. Everyone in the media points to him never having a losing season and what a fantastic coach he is. They're not taking into account that the team is too talented to have a losing season. If the talking heads would sit down and watch game after game like us fans do, they would begin to sign a different tune.

It seems that Fichtner and Butler are coaching like their jobs are on the line, which they should be. First four games were a wake up call I guess.

please tell us which players we didn't pay and let go to other teams

Been doing it for years.

Ducati

So you want to make a sweeping negative allegation about the team operations but don't want to back it up with actual discussion. Good luck with that.

Ehhh, Le'veon Brown. Antonio Ward. Rocky Harris. Franco Bleier. Ernie Stautner.

That's just off the top of my head.
