I knew all along this was going to be a low scoring game but I was concerned we would come away with the Win especially after watching Mason Rudolph in the first half of this football game. I'll give credit to Mike Tomlin for having sense enough to bench Rudolph after the first series of the 3rd Quarter. I don't know if Rudolph is just reeling from a rough week personally and emotionally with the allegations of Myles Garrett still in his head or if he's just progressively getting worse week in, week out. Rudolph doesn't seem to be able to progress through his reads and you can see he's trying to do just that sitting in the pocket but he's taking way too long back there and the Defense is getting to him and he seem to get more easily rattled than he did earlier this season. It's a mental block or something for Rudolph who is really struggling....not sure going forward if it's something he will ever be able to overcome. It was a good move by Tomlin to bring in Devlin Hodges to provide the offense a spark and it was just what the doctor ordered that gave us the win over a hapless Bungles team. Defensively this team is really good....I love the Defense minus Terrell Edmunds who has still shown little to no improvement from year 1 to year 2. So now I guess we have a Quarterback controversy with the Clowns coming to town for a rematch. I'm all for keeping Devlin Hodges as the starter going forward for the rest of the season. Based from what I saw in this game Rudolph hasn't done enough to keep the starting job and Hodges he anticipates a little quicker back there than Rudolph right now. Nice to see some production on the field in game from two new roster additions in Kerrith Whyte & Deon Cain. Hopefully we get Juju Smith-Schuster & James Conner back next week with the Clowns coming to town. Kerrith Whyte is a really fast guy....hopefully we will see more of him in the kick return game.

Injuries per Tomlin:
TJ Watt - Bone bruise but was able to return

Game Balls:
Mike Tomlin - Giving credit to Tomlin for benching Mason Rudolph who has really struggled the past 3 games.
Devlin Hodges - Game ball for giving us the spark to lead our Steelers to victory
James Washington - 3 rec 98yds 1 TD,,,,great stiff arm on that TD to BJ Webb....he really planted him right on his ***
Benny Snell - 21 carries 98 yards....great job today getting some tough yards and did a good job securing that football late in the game
TJ Watt - Added another sack today giving him 11.5 on the year......great motor in game
Cam Heyward - The quiet leader on Defense this guy really shows up to play week in, week out
Devin Bush - Key play today knocking that football away from Boyd late in the game...that forced fumble really swung the momentum back in favor of the Steelers
Bud Dupree - Finally showing what he can do after 5 years

Game Goats:
Mason Rudolph - He looked off from the get go....hasn't really done much the past 3 games.....glad Tomlin benched him....maybe he has a future here who knows....TB #12 got benched plenty....Rudolph needs to stay positive and keep his chin up!
Allejandro Villaneuva - He was getting abused by Dunlap and others for much of this game.....I really am starting to think it's time for the Steelers to find their next Left Tackle....I'm not sure how much long Big Al can remain a starter.

FU's:
FU to Clowns we're coming for you next! I hope Duck hangs a 50 burger on ya!

I think Nelson played really well too. And despite a rocky start Haden made some good breaks on the ball late.

Also Decastro is the man out there run blocking.........

I liked also what Whyte was doing out there early...........

Game ball to Tomlin for making the switch to the Duck.

Game balls to me and coach, the ONLY ones that could see Duck was the MAN at QB the Steelers needed for WEEKS

The rest of the sniveling apologists trying to climb on board now dont count, but we will let u ride along on the Duck! Train

Ok dude, what is this MAN **** you and cooch keep posting? I know what cooch is all about but what's ur deal?

Rudolph played bad, he deserved to be benched, he doesn't look like he's a starter in this league, why get personal at Rudolph? Totally unnecessary

Props for setting Spike in his place. About time someone did.

what does It say about the afc that after the **** season we have had so far, we are still in the playoff hunt

And the NFL wants to expand the number of teams to make the playoffs. Go figure.

Nelson has been a great FA signing. Yes. I said great. :)

Spike just likes to troll. Unlike cooch I don't think he believes half of his trolls. Just likes to create a rise. And some of it is just sarcasm. I sort of understand his schtick....

Screw Coach, Mason was not benched because he was not liked or a bad person, that whole BS from him negates anything else.

The offense has lots of problems, but Duck and MR are both playing with the same deck at this point. Same OL, same WR's, Same RB's, same OC...whatever you want to look at. Way too early to say Duck is the next thing or not, but he certainly looks more poised in the pocket than MR. Mason just looks like a deer in the headlights and he does not seem to learn from his mistakes. Duck isn't even supposed to be here so he has nothing to lose at this point so he can just let it rip. Its a small book (less than 2Q) but he did step around the pocket better. He got a big completion and he took care of the ball. MR made some terrible "throw aways" while Duck seemed to know how to throw over a receiver and out of bounds when the play breaks down. I can't believe MR didn't do that in college so he isn't new to the idea. I really think the stage is too big for him (thanks HCMT for that ism) at this point. I don't know if he can get past it or not. Duck...I'm not going to put a crown on him just yet. He was far from great so lets see what happens when teams get a little tape on him and game plan him.

Either way, I don't think MR or DH are the future heir to the throne. That guy isn't on the team yet.

I know. I was just playing along with Spike. :)

While it's nice that Duck had 1 play that set him apart, keep in mind that was exactly what he had.
1 play.

Aside from the one deep pass that Washington (I get all the Washington pimping points - see I can do it too. ;-), Duck averaged just over 11 yards per pass (which is good. I can be happy with that.) And he was under %50 on completions.

Rudolph (without the big play) averaged over 10 yards per pass. (Again for Rudolph and Duck these are GOOD numbers.) and he was @ %50 completions.

So basically, they are ultimately carbon copies of one another. I wouldn't get too excited just yet.

Edit:

I was wrong. I was thinking the big play was 71 yards, not 79 yards. That means on his remaining throws Duck had a lower average than Rudolph. The truth is fellas, neither guy is good. You can go Duck crazy all you like, he didn't actually play any better than Rudolph at the end of the day.

But again, this should NOT be interpreted as me saying I love me some Rudolph. I'm just pointing out that they were both pretty mediocre. And that's being kind.

I just hope the next heir to the throne has been born.
