With the talk of eliminating pre-season, I believe the biggest loss would be development of the younger players. Does anyone else think that we will one day have increased roster sizes and a "minor league" system? Your practice squads would essentially compete with other practice squad teams. The NFL seems to get greedier every year and I can see them creating a minor league team for each team and televising their games on Saturdays to compete with College ball. It would also allow them to use Tues, Wed, and Fridays for primetime games. Then the NFL would have a game every day of the week.

I kinda like the idea, and would allow further development of younger players. Anyone else think this could happen?

If Roger Goodell really wanted to limit injuries, he's cut the pre-season to 3 games.

My suggestion:

1st game. An all rookie, 1st-year player, and newly signed veteran game.

2nd pre-season game. Dress rehearsal for the veterans. Play them 2 quarters, then the backups come in.

3rd pre-season game. Sit all starters.

4th week. Off.

Under such a format, you'd see a lot less injuries to front line starters.

No way the NFL starts up a minor league system and have them play on Saturdays to compete directly with College ball.

Or just do it like we did it, don't play any star players til the 3rd preseason game and only play them for one half the entire preseason.

I was thinking about this today and I like the way it was handled by the Steelers this year. Other years where you didn't have stars like, Ben, Bell and Brown, I might want them to have some extra time. It was clear they didn't need it this year.

I would agree that would make sense but I doubt they cut the revenue of an entire preseason game.

I would think if they increased the roster to include the PS players and instead of increasing their pay to the league min have them be designated un-active players so they get paid roughly (probably a little more) than they do now. BUT if they are activated for a game their salary increases to 1/16 of the league min for that game. That would make it easier to not dress a guy who is hurt maybe be more precautious of a guy with a concussion. And then have the first and last games be all backups with the middle games the first quarters being starters.

Exhibition games, scrimmages, call them whatever you want - it's all the same. People will still get hurt no matter what they do.

This talk is all about poor Tony hurting his back, isn't it?

Except college ball has moved away from pro style systems... So its only a matter of time before a developmental league that takes guys from high school shows up...

No way. There's no money in minor league football.

Are you really going to snub college football to watch the same no-name players who are on the field in the second half of the pre-season games? It'd get crushed.

I have lobbied for pre-season games to be played in stadiums not currently hosting a NFL team. Play the games in smaller venues across the country. Give fans a chance to see the game in person, when they may not be able to otherwise.

Good idea. Stadiums would, probably be full. Lower the ******* prices to something reasonable to watch 2nd and 3rd teamers play. Actually, I doubt I would pay even $20 for that.

Such as large high school stadiums, since no one wants to watch preseason football. Lower it to two games and see how things work out and move from there, but it's old getting ripped off with ridiculous prices going to low quality preseason games.

My point is maybe a game in new places each year. Mid west, and Mountain states would turn out a ton of fans. So many of those people would go if the price was right

They will end up eliminating one or two preseason games and adding two more regular season games.

Either eliminate all preseason games, or make damn sure your core athletes don't play in preseason games at all.

NFL and NFLPA should just meet and have the first two games designated for players two years or less and those who apply for designation (journeyman trying to make a roster.) Charge less and that is it. Then everyone goes to an equal footing. Starters play some in third game and 4th is up to you (mostly looking at cut line and allowing auditions for other teams.

Watching the redskins they had 26 starters that didn't even to to Tampa. How does Gödel explain that, I bet the tickets weren't less price.

26 Starters didn't go?? 26?
So all the starting offense and defense (11+11) that's 22 plus the place kicker, punter, long snapper, and kick returner....

Relax CoolieMan, it was the 75 man roster, the was plenty left to field a team............ I think the "deflator guy" caught on with the skins. With all his weight loss he was able to wear a "starter's" jersey and pass himself off as one. Never ever took his helmet off but always was lingering around the bathrooms.....

Salute the nation

Hell skip those ******* London and Mexico City games and play somewhere in the US and fill the stadium with regular season games.

This would be the most most logical outcome, lest you forget that the NFL is indeed a business, first and foremost. That way the huge discounts we get for pre-season games now that could be turned into premium assets....err at least full stadiums.LOL
