Free Agents I'm still interested in

If we sign Poe what do we do with Tuitt or Heyward? I can't imagine we go 4-3 with 4 300lbs lineman.

I'd sign Poe and use Hargrave to constantly rotate with Heyward and Tuitt. Keeping fresh legs on the field at all times.

with Timmons gone, if we are going to change to a 4-3, this is the time to do so
and bringing Poe in would facilitate that

Heyward - Poe - Hargraves - Tuitt
helluva ******* line

Deebo (one year) - Shazier - DuPree
not bad at all

Especially if we can get a guy like Tim Williams to take over for Deebo

I know we're not linked to even having Poe visit, so it's a pipe dream.

Not even close! For a 4-3 you need STUDS at every position on the DL that can pass rush ONE ON ONE and beat their man. We have no DLman even close to that.

You need to spend $60M for each off those 4 guys to get a dominant defensive line.

Calais Campbell cashes in

Defensive lineman Calais Campbell considered offers from Denver, Washington, and Jacksonville. He opted to play for the Jaguars

His contract, per a source with knowledge of the deal, is worth $60 million over four years. The full guarantee at signing is $30 million, with a $6 million signing bonus, a $9 million fully-guaranteed base salary in 2017, and a $15 million fully-guaranteed base salary in 2018.

I've been saying this for the past two years. This defense needs a big *** dominant DT. Free's up space and creative blitzing from the LBers. Hampton was the cog back in the day. Imagine Shazier's speed alongside Farrior at that time. The Steelers linebacking group has some athleticism. Any DT who requires double team blocking opens up a loooooot more for the rest of the front 6

But, but, we don't need a nose tackle. He only plays 2 downs and they pull him for sub packages. I f'ing hate that argument. Using 2 DL does NOT work. We should have three on the field at all times. The DL keep the LB's clean and able to get to the QB. Only having 2 means our LB's are typically locked up on a OL and getting no pressure. And, we need to rush 4 guys on every play. Enough of the rushing 3 guys, especially when those three only include 2 DL. Sorry for the rant but damn I hate that excuse from the local writers in Pittsburgh.

There is a difference in having a 300 pound vs 240-250 pound guy with there hand in the ground.
I'd weak side Tuitt on the end. Strong side Dupree on the other. Heyward and Hargrave collapse the pocket and make gaps for the inside blitz. Tuitt was a DE in college.

Believe Tuitt was a 3/4 DE in college as he is now. Dupree was a 4/3 DE.

also with Nickel, put Heyward Hargrave and Tuitt up front, then Dupree, Shazier and rookie/JH

Just read that CBS Sports is reporting that D Hightower will be meeting with the Steelers.

Haha, see most post on page 4 about half way down in the thread I linked. I couldn't agree more with the above, dead on !!!

I'm still hoping for Malcolm Butler. The Patriots may not be able to afford him anymore.

I've been tearing my hair out and complaining about this since I saw it a few years ago. I thought I was seeing things when I saw only 2 DL in the game and they were rushing 3. It just makes no sense. You have 5 300 lb+ OL going against 2 DL that are under 300 or close to it and 1 or 2 LB's at 250. I mean come on. Speed will only get you so far but that's if you are sending 4 on every play and blitzing with a 5th. I hate when they call it a blitz when we rush 4.

He's a RFA, they can keep him for a year if they want, he'll want $10M+ on a new contract

Malcolm Butler - DB - Patriots

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports free agent CB Malcolm Butler "wants to make it work in New England."Howe adds Butler does not plan to hold out if he is forced to play the season under the first-round tender, which will pay $3.91 million.

All of this disputes a report from CSN New England's Mike Giardi, who said Butler wants out of Foxboro. Howe did say Stephone Gilmore's contract was a "gut punch" to Butler and the corner "has received interest from several teams." Whether it happens this year or next, this situation seems to be headed toward divorce.

But see Hightower is redundant. The Steelers have a star ILB and I think a good second. Why would they spend money that way. Poe is a niche player (but an important niche this team has missed). His market will fall because he is a niche player. Wait till it does and slightly over pay him. You have Poe you don't need Hightower. At all.

Yes and everyone knows all qb's hate pressure up the middle and in their face, we get none of that with 2 DL and when we do that and only rush 3, both DL can be doubled and the rushing LB still is blocked by the remaining OT, and that's if the offense doesn't leave a te or RB in to block, then everyone is doubled.
NE use to use Wilfork on passing g downs to push the middle of the pocket, same with Ngata in Baltimore.

Yeah forgot about that 1st round tender they put on him. I wouldn't want the Steelers to give up a 1st round pick.

I'd give up our first round pick for Butler, I'll take a top notch NFL CB over the #30 pick any day, there's no guarantee that pick will be good, and CB is a huge need for us, and you take him from the Pats.

Now I'm hoping for Donta Hightower. Sign him and then go Edge Rusher and CB in the first two rounds.

Also there's no way in hell will the Steelers give up a 1st round pick to sign a high priced free agent.

Your cheap *** going to pay him $13M a year for 5 years too?

Absolutely, it's the weakest part of our defense and NE shreds us. I'm going all in for Bens final few seasons.

I'm not saying the will, just saying I would, and why would give hightower big money, he's more of a thumper type ILB, we don't need him at a high price, when we have williams
