I notice how you didn't offer any input on who you would take. Probably because it is a week *** FA class. Byrd is decent but he's older than Mitchell so that's a stop gap then you have Reid and Vaccaro but they are SS.

Rather address the position in the draft.

True Boston seems to know how to catch.

Yes I know the cap savings. I've placed that info in 4 threads...

And those FS suck ***.

I move Gay to FS and cut Mitchell and draft another FS high to compete with Gay.

Imeadiate answer and should happen RIGHT now durring the two weeks off. Gay may be a little rusty but he would make more plays than MITCHELL has all season. It might disrupt to much for doing it right now but I'd be all for this move if for nothing else but to get rid of Mitchell.

Yeah the cutting Mitchell thing.

If Ben leaves sure. But if he is still here? I would rather keep Mitchell, and groom a replacement for a year.

Never want to throw a unseen card out of your deck. It may leave you short for the game.

I doubt they get rid of Mitchell unless they can get someone real good to replace him. The coaches and his teammates still like him alot. He's still probably the best safety on the team although Davis is still improving and getting close.

Well,

Mitchell is terrible and being paid like a front-line safety, Cutting him to save 5 million in cap space is a no-brainer.

Who's better, I'd say the below players would be an upgrade:

Vaccaro
Reid
Boston
Joyner
Graham

The Steelers do not have huge differences between Strong and Free Safety, so players on both lists will fit. I'll setter for a guy who can cover, make some plays on the ball, not miss many tackles and draw no more than two flags a year.

The only way Mitchell gets replaced this year, is through injury. That's it. The only way. It's sad and it sucks, but it is what it is.

Gay, JJ Wilcox, Golden, or Dangerfield would each be better than Mitchell.
