Frank Reich fired by Panthers

I read that was an ownership decision not management or coaches.

Also, they are on the hook for Rhule's 8.5 million and Reich's 9 million per year until 2027. Ouch!
Rhule’s deal with Nebraska voided almost all money he was still set to earn, he is seeking 5 million from Carolina through an arbitration case tho…the way they word the contracts down here voids remaining money if paid else where. I would imagine Reich’s deal had same wording. But Frank will probably only get a coordinator job and won’t have most the money offset like Rhule did by getting well paid by NE

But yeah, Tepper sure ain’t worried about dropping dime on coaching staff,

If Reich wanted Stroud then this is a kick In the nuts. What if you decide to ditch Young and draft Caleb Williams while also hiring Lincoln Riley? They may have to make a move like that because what big time coach will take this job after firing 2 well respected coaches in a year ?

They could probably get a good deal for Young and Williams is a better prospect. I think Riley would jump at the chance to come to the NFL. Tepper would have to shell out to pay a top defensive assistant because Riley's teams don't play defense. Unlikely, but a fun scenario to think about.

Mac Jones was not that bad at first. He does not get much help in NE in terms of offensive weapons. He has been VERY bad lately though, but I think he is plain unhappy in NE and it is effecting his play. I dont think people should give up on Young yet. Eli Manning was god awful his first year, Trevor Lawrence didnt look that good, and there have been other QBs who turned it around. The Panthers should be able to get Young some help for next year so then we should know more.

Saban called out Mac Jones during practice at Alabama for his body language and how it was affecting his play. Whatever he did to fix it clearly worked. It has to be miserable to play for Belichick, especially now that they aren't winning.

I don't think anyone is giving up on Young. That roster is trash. I also read today that Reich is leaning toward retirement. For anyone interested in him coming here, if that's what he's thinking, no thanks.

That's the trouble when you draft a "franchise QB" and the rest of your team sucks, especially the OL. They really don't stand a chance.

I haven't watched one game or highlight of the Panthers this season. Not because they suck, but I just haven't.

What does their OL play look like???

I'll go watch a few this evening to answer my own question...
bryce young is a bust, he should've never been picked anywhere near #1 overall...

Young could be fine. But what if you think Caleb Williams or Drake Maye could be better? What if Arizona stuck with Josh Rosen instead of drafting Kyler Murray? Jury may still be out somewhat on Murray but it was clearly the right decision to ditch Rosen for him.

I guarantee there would be a few teams willing to pay to trade for Bryce.

Maybe Carolina's owner made them take the SEC guy over Stroud to put butts in seats. Could they draft Drake Maye for that same reason?

Just to stir the pot. Najee + 2nd round pick for Bryce Young?

Typically id argue all sorts of points about comparison with trevor lawerance and things… but while I think there are some reasons to believe Young could get much better, I don’t think he will really get a chance to…

That dude might be almost 5 foot 9 at best. He has tge frame of a svelte teenager.. somehow that franchise decided to draft that guy on a team with no Oline, no running game, and subpar receivers….

He has already taken 40 sacks… he is going to be retired before he gets a chance to show anything.., maybe by year’s end if he keeps getting crushed lol

Once more 5’9 plus no oline is a bad mix… there or here…

The Panthers as of now have the first pick in round two. They traded their 2024 1st round pick amongst others to Chicago to select Young. No Caleb decision to make here.

Just saw that. He's a good option for next year at OC, if we look outside...
Not happening Berm. He’s already on record stating his NFL coaching tenure is done (his choice). He’s 65 and is getting paid until he is 70. Broadcasting might be in the hopper though.

Tepper has been a disaster for that franchise. He’s also pissed every other first-round QB has looked better than Young.

Brilliant business executive. An absolute Alpha dog there and tremendously successful in finances as a hedge fund mogul. He's from the area (Carnegie Mellon and Pitt grad) with his name on buildings. When he bought a minority share of Steelers in the late 2000’s (to help the Rooneys get out from the new rule the league adopted about owning gambling or sports betting entities), He was already a known bulldog and ultra confident. His peers in the stock market called him an unpolished billionaire since he did business “ aggressively”. He also is supremely philanthropic in Pittsburgh and in Charlotte. Gives back to all the communities (on his terms), but as someone else said the Teppers are good folks and don’t act like a typical billionaire. When he bought the Steeler shares he had zero experience in professional sports management

I think Rooney and Tepper get together and fix problems.
Tomlins 9 win seasons would be amazing for the panthers

Who knows. Insiders have commented that Tepper wanted more input on making money for the Steeler franchise (otherwise an attempt to have a say in franchise business). Mr. Rooney (Dan) told him, sorry this is a family run business and your input is receiving dividends on your shares. So he waited his time to go buy WAS franchise, once Snyder was forced to sell. Unfortunately, Snyder was an *** and no one respected him so he pissed off Goodell by fighting the rubout that the league was trying to do. Then when Mr. Richardson started having his issues, Tepper stepped right in, being already a NFL franchise minority owner AND having NFL first family on his buying resume’, allowed him to jump a bunch of others and offered the largest buyout.

Then he bought the Charlotte soccer team. He has tremendous business sense, but not in the professional football arena. Or he hasn’t learned yet.

makes it difficult but not impossible. They could probably get a 2nd rounder or last 1st for Bryce in the offseason. Then you just have to mortgage the future to get the QB you want. In today’s NFL, getting that franchise QB is everything. You just better be right when you make that big move.

Carolina needs to do an honest eval of Bryce. If you see improvement and still believe then hire a coach to develop him. If you think he’s a bust who is only good at off script extended plays, then trade him ASAP because his value will only go down.

Same exact thoughts: What quality coach would take the gig now, after seeing all the knee-jerk moves by this red @ss owner?

That’s one way to look at it.
This might be the way Frank Reich looks at it.
He signed a 4 year contract, got fired 11 games in.
He is now owed 25,000 dollars every SINGLE day for the next 3 plus years until his contract runs out.

I’d be screaming hire me hire me!

But Reich only gets paid if he stays retired. If you are a young coach, if you get fired, you probably just want another job which would void your old contract.

I’m seeing similarities with Stains and Raiduhs ownership.
